  1. I agree, company bylaws and state laws are 2 very different things. The one line I particularly like is about the cylinders/hydro testing and DOT 15 year expiration. I know what they are trying to say because I am familiar with it, but it isn't explained well at all But the average reader may think SCBA bottles cost $50-100.....
  2. I have never heard or read of a law that caps the # of voluneteers. Anyone have more info on that?
  3. I'm not in Erie County, but this is the best description of the changes to FF 1 I have seen so far and why. I don't know when this was published, nor if this is the basis for the "new" FF1 classes in 2015. http://www2.erie.gov/fire/sites/www2.erie.gov.fire/files/MEMO-2014%20FF1%20DELIVERY%20RE-DESIGN-140129_0.pdf
  4. With the new changes, if you cant pass the breathe down, you will not continue the training. That's what we were told by our County Coordinator.
  5. 100% agreed. Not everyone is cut out to be an interior FF. Hopefully NYS will offer more scene support classes to help compensate for those who can't hack FF1
  6. Most depts in my area don't have a door simulator, much less a ceiling simulator. And our county doesn't have a county training center. This will make for an interesting conversation at the next county meeting.
  7. A ceiling simulator???????????????
  8. There is a breathe down exercise where you need to complete 8 stations while on air. It is pass/fail. If you fail, you will not complete the class. They expect some people to fail. Also, you need to have first aid/CPR/AED as prereq's. That's the word our county put out. I think it is a good thing
  9. I am looking to do a long (30-40 foot) squirrel tail type suction on our source pumper. Who has the most flexible and or lightweight 6 inch threaded suction hose? Thanks!
  10. We currently have Kochek suction hose, Im looking at all suppliers. All ideas welcome.
  11. The vehicle, an ex US Military FMTV is VERY hard to maintain, especially after fording, and parts are not exactly easy to get...... They are better off with M923/M925 series 5 tons for something like this....
  12. My district buys as much Made in the USA as possible.
  13. Does anyone have specifics on why they suck? Anyone have specifics?
  14. Great idea, and I am all for it, but this looks like an unfunded mandate.
  15. Of course that's what your SCBA vendor will tell you... He wants your $$$$. But seriously, how bad are they and what exactly happened to them?
  16. My Motorola dealer just told me the Minitor 5 pager is being discontinued, and the Minitor 6 is coming out soon(in a few weeks) , But Motorola is not making a Low Band version for the 6. I really don't care about all these new features, they do nothing for me. My 5 works well, but they are dropping it.... What will depts. do who are still dispatched on low band? I think Moto is making a mistake not carrying a low band pager. More info here.. http://www.pwservice.com/pagers/firepagers/motorola_minitor_vi_6_pager.aspx Thanks Momma Moto for dropping Low Band......
  17. What freq our county uses to dispatch is out of our control. And UHF freqs are hard to find these days due to the jammed up spectrum in our area. We are good with VHF pagers now. We swapped all pagers out from low band to VHF for basically no financial cost.
  18. Our county dispatching has gone from 33.48 to 155.220 for fire paging, and will keep 33.48 "alive" for a year and half, then it will be highband paging only. My dept sold off our M5 Lowband pagers, bought used M5 highband pagers for less than we sold the lowband ones for, and by doing so, we have saved the taxpayers a ton of $ in the process. I don't need any of the fancy features of the M6 and G1's. When county pages out, I just need it to go beep and tell me where the call is.
  19. I spent a lot of time in Amawalk polishing that engine when it was new.. Sad to see it go.
  20. More like "Dear Mr Article 32 Investigating Officer"................
  21. The tan truck is a M983A3 HEMTT LET, the green one looks to be a HEMTT M984Asomething wrecker. It looks like the wrecker (green truck) was towing the LET (tan truck) and disaster struck. There is no "tractor-trailer" here.. Just one truck being towed by a wrecker. Perhaps it was headed to/coming from Camp Smith for the 719th Transportation unit? I know they did a MTOE change and were getting rid of their line haul M915/6's. The LET would be the replacement for the M915 series. I "owned" several HEMTTs when I was in the Army.. Cargos, fuelers, LHS's. Great trucks, and a blast to drive off road.
  22. All fire districts are REQUIRED to have a purchasing policy in place. The Auditors look for it every year, and to make sure your adhering to it. For example, if it says all purchases between $1000-$5000 must have 3 written quotes, and you buy a widget for $3,500, you better have the 3 written quotes at the ready to prove you adhered to it.
  23. To withdraw monies in a Capital Reserve account, it needs to be put out to a permissive referendum. Basically the district must ask public permission to spend the $ the district already has.
