State police investigating fake emergency transmissionsPlease take a minute to listen, these fake transmissions are way out of way for LCD hopefully someone will recognize the voice and this can be put to an end quickly!

I believe that has been replaced by an engine company from Gowans-Knight, prehaps ex-Watertown (although might have been a loaner).

I was recently invited up to the Lebanon Valley Dragway in West Lebanon, NY to check out the emergency services operation there. Here are a couple of quick shots of their primary ambulance, a 1993 Ford F-350 Life Line former with Berlin, NY.

Each vehicle gets one staff member - the Ambulance and Rescue get an EMT each, it would have to be a "bad day" for them to transport, but they can if need be. It would have been Lebanon Valley Protective Assn. Ambulance up until recent would respond now it is Chatham Rescue. The issuing being that due to a state law a fire company could not bill, and that billing was keeping the EMS operations going.

I think just the "pump" for the water tank is, interesting and scary at the same time.

Oh yeah it was a "test and tune" day so there was quite the mix match of vehicles on the track, here is just one of them. All these photos are linked back to my website where you can see more.

Also got a so-so shot of a bald eagle over the track - I'd never seen one in the wild before!

Here's their safety truck former a MA Bell Phone Company Truck with 125 gallon water tank that is propelled by nitrogen. They have a second pick truck with some basic safety gear that I didn't get to shoot this time. They are planning on purchasing a real mini pumper/rescue in the near future. Needless to say it was a fun visit and am I planning on going back up there next summer.

Very well done by the trooper, at many parades I've seen LE officers doing this, common practice in CT, NY and MA. Also seen some firefighters do the same. When shooting a parade I will often take my hat off and stop for a few seconds while the colors pass, at least for the host company when practical for others. I've also recent heard that there is a new law or ruling that allows former military personnel to salute regardless if they are in uniform or not.

I am talking about MY Camp, okay so it is really is the Capital District YMCA's Camp (Albany, NY) it is called Camp Wa Wa Segowea (Seh go WE AH) and is located in the Southern Berkshires of Massachusetts. The camp has been around since the late 1920's and and until about 2005 was associated with the now defunct Dutchess County YMCA in Poughkeepise, NY. Segowea sits on over 400 acres of amazing woods and a has a natural (most lakes around here are man made) 23 acre lake. I've been volunteering as the camp "nurse" this past week and the kids are having an absolute blast singing songs, sailing, swimming, canoeing, rowing, arts and crafts, outdoor living classes, over night camp outs, playing sports, and making new friends. The camp is co-ed for 7-14 year olds. It has a capacity of about 70 campers, this past week session had only about 40, and this week looks like about 30, we still have 6 more weeks to go with only the last one being even close to full. A week costs just under $700, remember this covers all food and entertainment for a whole week! There is also a pricing break for those who can demonstrate a financial need. Oh so YOU want to come to camp, well the program is for kids, however we always need volunteer labor as we only have one guy working as the property manager who has literary 100's of projects going at once. For a few hours of labor (raking, weed whacking, mowing, light carpentry, plumbing, ect) you can likely get a free meal (the food has been excellent, and I am a former camp cook so take me at my word!) and the chance to tease some of the 9 - 10 pound bass in the lake. - There is no cell service or internet up there either - you can really drop off the grid! With a 45 minute response time to the scene these photo aren't as spectacular as some others I've recently seen on Facebook. However the sun was in just the right place and there was little hazard, and plenty of time to shoot rigs!. All these shots are linked to larger versions. Hiking down RT. 22 to the scene Fire-Police had the road blocked off...

Hydraulic overhaul via Sharon Tower 1, drafting out of a dump tank that was being filled continuously by tankers from Amenia, Wassaic, Lakeville, Canaan, and Cornwall. Lakeville's old American La France was the water hole truck down on Sharon Station Road.

Amenia's other engine was placed in service as a tanker.

Yes cold weather will kill batteries quickly. At the Cranwell Fire in Lenox, MA(12-22-10) temps were sub freezing I had to sparingly use my Sony point and shoot camera as the batteries were partly charged. Luckily I had recently charged my Canon Rebel XT battery which considering the conditions lasted a surprising 700+ frames and for about 3 hours. I still believe if it had been warmer I could have probaly kept shooting. One trick I've used at other scenes is to take the battery out of the camera and warm it up somehow, I have just put it in my pants pocket for about 15 minutes this may give you a bit more shooting time. Long and short of it is having plenty of batteries and keeping them charged up.
