so lets see, hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent on a piece of equipment that can save lives, then that piece of equipment goes unmanned and is gathering dust pretty much? word gets around that if you have the type of call that the piece of equipment can treat to divert because it's probably not staffed? 1st waste of money on the original purchase and 2nd patients lives put at risk delaying treatment while they are transported to another facility that can treat them. am i the only one seeing this? someone needs to step up to the plate and get some funding to staff this even if it means putting another trained body in the ER and having it so that person can leave in the event a CO call comes in and they need to operate the chamber. Plus if not needed, it's always another set of hands in the ER for the shift which nobody can tell me isn't needed. Just my .01 cents - couldnt afford another penny-lol Joe (former SHAC member circa 98-02)

when I post the link the video shows right up. it's on you tube under joetnymedic. Fed ex tt went off the hwy, saddle tank ruptured another tt hit the rain/diesel mixture and went over striking the fed ex truck while the tow company was hooking it up. could have been a lot worse. luckily no injuries.

Although I'm not active in the Westchester County area (haven't been since 2002 and yes I do miss it and the guys and gals up there) I personally think K-9 units are an invaluable asset to any police department and heck they assist FD's in locating victims here in CT too. So for what it costs to run a program, like someone else said what's it like a dollar an hour. What happens when Yortown or any other department disbands a program. Two things actually - 1. that K-9 is not available in town if needed and 2. They have to request aid from another department therefore leaving that department minus their K9 when they could have had their own right there. But once again it's the same thing as with FD's and even municipal EMS, While yes there is a chief running the department, the department is being funded by the municipality and we all know, that usually those on councils and in office usually don't have any experience in public safety whatsoever so they make ill fated decisions that in actuality place the public they serve at a risk for harm. You can bet the people looking to cut this program haven't got a day worth of field experience between all of them. My opinion is give the departments the tools they need and take the cut from someone like sanitation or a new truck or something. Don't cut public safety, if you do better hope nothing happens or you are going to get your pee-pee smacked Joe

Such a tragic story. RIP Officer Perry. You know, I read the first post, and I have 2 things to say. 1) If it were up to me, this perp would be charged with murder. however I know it doesnt meet the statatory requirements, however I fully believe he should at least get charged with manslaughter. That said. 2) 300 arrests???!!! Why is this guy even on the streets? I really feel bad when there's a LODD no matter what branch of public safety it's in. But this is just a total tragedy. My condolences to the brothers and sisters at WPPD

Hey Guys, Grady Studdard who has worked EMS for many years here in CT was critically injured in a motorcycle accident in my city on Sunday. Norwalk EMS is holding a 10-13 for him on March 28-30 at O'Niels Pub and Restaurant 93 N. Main St Norwalk, CT if anyone can come and show their support for a brother, it would be deeply appreciated. You can call 203-838-0222 for the organizers and more info. Joe

I take scene shots, but I NEVER take pics of a victim. I might not be going to calls as a medic anymore, but I still watch what I shoot. I also make sure I don't take any shots making anyone look bad. Maybe that's why I don't have any problems when I take pics on scene. As for this guy....What was he thinking? I've seen a few scene shots like the one described but they sure weren't posted. Being a former cop on top of it, you'd think he would know better. If he loses his card, it's all on him. WAS967, remember what happened over the comment that was requested to be made to a newspaper by someone?

My first time was doing rotations in the ER during my original EMT class in the early 80's in CT. (for those CT guys on the board Midstate wasn't midstate it was east and west campus) Anyways it kinda sucked. We worked this guy who was a DNR but his kids cut the bracelet off so we had to work him. He was a CA pt forgot what kind of CA but it sucked because we brought him back to live however much longer in pain, then that same night we had a lady who a nursing home thought was pulling their leg and left her on the ground for god knows how long, needless to say we worked her and she didn't make it. Crazy night that was the ER was booming - oh I forgot to mention it was halloween. And yes my a** was going 1,2,3, etc and I did say breathe. Then I got introduced really quick to the real way once I hit the streets. BTW, something to make you chuckle. My first call as an EMT was a maternity call, I was working with my sons Godfathers wife (she was a medic) and she was cracking up because all you heard me saying all the way to the call and up the stairs to the 3rd floor was "please don't be crowning, please don't be crowning" Oh did I get my chops broke after that.... I'll tell you though, as I look back on my EMS days, I have to smile, 99.9% of the people I worked with were great and I wouldn't change anything if I did it all again.... Joe PS-WAS967 I remember hearing about that code from Somers. Good job on your part.

can't be any worse than some of the old CMTI rigs - lol

Kevin Lunie and his wife I believe are in the process of setting up a trust account for him. When the info gets out, I'll let you guys know. Sorry I haven't been on to respond to questions etc. As for the crash the location was right down the street from UNH. The front end of the car was gone. Car is actually at the garage down the street from my house. For those of you who were listening , you know CPR was started right away which in this case was a good thing. I'm glad everyone is pulling together for him and I hope he makes a full recovery. Joe

Was at Sleepy for the dedication today (8/9/08) Nice rig, nice graphics and the airhorns sound like a train.

Done, Glad to be of assistance. It's a very worthwhile cause and the reason behind it proves once again there are still good people in this world joe

The White Plains buses are dispatched by the PD if you listen, you'll hear them call amb 1, 2, etc. They also have rigs in New Rochelle and another rig is based out of Westchester Med Ctr. and handles county facility calls. The med ctr units also provide the medic for Sleepy Hollow.
