Only thing I found funny is that appearently they dont require ACLS. You have to admit this doesn't look real good. Plus why the heck was he allowed to leave and come back if he was testing in the first place? http://www.news-press.com/article/20110815/NEWS0103/110815043/1005/ACC

I signed up for 2 online magazines that have to do with radio communications for anyone else who's interested in getting them. they are very interesting to say the least and I actually found and am checking out another brand of 2 way radios that are out there that i never heard of. After I check them out, I'll let you know about them which is probably why I've never heard of the brand-lol. BTW RELM is appearently dabbing into P25 radios so lets see what their cheapo solution to this will be. My buddy Angelo does personal security work down in Greenwich and his boss bought Relms and ask Angelo why they always fall apart (Duh - they are pieces of junk. I had a pair of midland walkie talkies that worked on channel 14 [yes channel 14 as in CB I know I'm showing my age here]when I was a kid and they were more sturdy then these things) anyway here are the links to sign up http://rrmediagroup.com/ one is called Mission Critical Communications magazine and the 2nd is Radio Resource magazine. I've been reading Mission Critical and I have to say I like what I've read so far. Looks like they actually checked this stuff out before writing the articles. Have fun reading - Joe

You have got to give this dispatcher credit as she knows the guy and kept it all together till they actually made the arrest. She did an awesome job http://www.nhregister.com/articles/2011/08/12/blotter/doc4e455c4783dfa499899522.txt

While I'd say some of the views here are interesting and the writers are entitled to their opinions, I don't believe the fire department or any branch of public safety for that fact is just there to keep people employed.. While I think foam and sprinklers are good things I hardly think all the foam or sprinklers in the world are gonna stop every fire from happening. SMH Take a read at the sprinkler and foam articles in the current edition. BTW - This is what your mayors and probably some Governors are reading and people wonder why things are so screwed up - http://webapps.icma.org/pm/9307/ Stay safe out there Guys (and ladies) Joe

First, let me say, I'm not a big fan on auctions, especially on sites like Ebay. That said, I have been popping on to a few sites lately and have had some good experiences, so I wanted to share them with you guys. 1. www.propertyroom.com - lots of confiscated stuff as well as police and fire surplus. Several scanners in really good condition went for a buck plus 5 bucks for shipping, so we jumped on those. In addition, they have a ton of Panasonic toughbooks up for grabs cheap. My son David just got one complete with shipping for $61.00 the unit was marked as in fair condition on the site but was in pretty good condition when we got it. We did get it sans OS but added one and it runs fine. Ours is a model CF-73 which we've seen going from between $500.00 to $1000.00 used up here so David bought this to sell as he has a brand new Sony Vaio that he uses. They also have some cars - some not so good, but we did see 2003 Yukon in pretty good shape go for 5K and to be honest if I could have bid on it, I would have. Now, I get updates from my local State of CT auction. There's one coming up on 8/20 and it has a bunch of bikes (i.e. motorcycles) including a 98 Harley. Crown Vics go for decent money at these but the bikes usually go for a song so I figured I'd post the link with pics so that if anyone wanted to check it out, they could. I won't have cash till the beginning of September so I lose this time around as I spent the cash fixing up my truck as well as doing some work to the ex's Jeep and getting stuff for the house, etc. But I'll say this much, I'm putting money to the side next month just in case another one of these rolls around. I also took out cash to buy an old Ellington car I know I can get for around $3500.00 that is in pristine condition. If I lose it, I know where there's another coming up just in case. Anyway here's the link for the state auction if anyone wants to check it out. Joe http://das.ct.gov/fp1.aspx?page=275

And people wonder why nobody pulls over for the real thing. This guy says he was embarrassed if what he did was wrong. "Really, you mean you didn't know it was wrong to travel code" Stupidity 101. Plus he says his company does drug testing first of all, then it does critical care pet transportation. Really? This is just another thing to make the guys out there doing the right thing look stupid. http://www.wdrb.com/story/15197212/man-arrested-for-driving-retired-ambulance

While some may think this is unprofessional, I think this was pretty cool and it's obvious the guy had his supervisors permission as well as the supervisor backing hat thim up. Overall, I think it was different and cool http://beta.news.yahoo.com/video/us-15749625/florida-deputy-sheriff-proposes-over-radio-25760850.html#crsl=%252Fvideo%252Fus-15749625%252Fflorida-deputy-sheriff-proposes-over-radio-25760850.html

are they still having it given all the damage that occurred up that way?

“Since we are not responding to call our calls,” said Trustee Schmidt. “Ossining bills out to the insurance company and we are losing revenue.” not for anything, quit yapping about losing money. there is a responsibilty to provide this service to your residents, being volunteers or paid. this shouldn't be about money (but it always is - revenue, revenue, revenue) it's about providing your residents with every aspect of public safety - be it police, fire or ems it is the village or towns responsibilty to provide it. it's called public safety and public trust for a reason. it's not always about making a buck, it's about doing the right thing. I know plenty of people who are on this site that volunteer and they do it because they feel obligated to do the right thing. they have the need and the drive to help others, as a volunteer, they damn sure aren't raking in the bucks which is what Crotons elected officials are moaning about. "Hey, if mrs. smith dies because the bus didn't roll we just lost money" Thats basically what they are saying and you know what? I don't live or even work up that way anymore and that statement makes me sick. If they have to hire paid staff to run the ambulance, do they think they'll be making money then? Anything they do meet is gonna go right back out the door for saleries and insurance, maintainance, etc. smh btw i also don't want to discourage the probly small group of volunteers that I'm sure are still trying to do their best and get that rig out. I know it's tough, I've been thru it too, so has, jay and todd and quite a few others here. Hats off to them, keep trying your best, I know its hard but always remember you are doing a great and noble thing and providing a very essential service. One thing I'd like to see happen. If Croton does go paid, even though some probably wouldn't take it. I'd like to see them offer the jobs to the volunteers that do make the bus.

as far as the actual emergency declaration goes. The journal news published that the crash radio traffic is available on liveatc.net. this guy was a pilot with over 50 years of flying experience and had done an emergency landing in the past, where all on board walked away, so it's quite obvious that something went drastically wrong that he couldn't make it back to the airport. In the beginning he actually held it together and was really calm on the radio. That's as far as I'm going to go with that. I will say that I listened to quite a bit of radio traffic that day and it sounded (obviously I wasn't there so I'm just going by what I heard) like things were very well run. A good point as to the weather, and terrain, etc was made also. Maybe it was overkill, but I too am of the better to respond with more than you need then have the rigs put back in to service then to respond with less and have to call for additional help. Remember to a degree, if you have to wait for additional manpower and apparatus to arrive, it may slow things down a little bit. I think the main thing here is that this was a very tragic accident and there were 4 people including two kids that lost their lives here. Having worked 45 medic 1 back in the day and knowing the departments that responded, I doubt (at least to a degree) that people stayed out of service to gawk at the site for any extended period of time. People who have not seen a plane crash up close and personal may have stayed for a few minutes, but I doubt anyone came even close to staying until the bodies were offloaded as I'm sure each and every one of us have seen plenty of bodies in our careers. Maybe the policy regarding response to this type of incident needs to be reviewed as I'm sure it will be, but in my honest opinion, you're gonna be damned if you do or damned if you don't in this scenerio. Send too many units out and it's overkill, don't send enough units and you didn't take the situation serious enough. Quite frankly I'd rather be the dispatcher getting my butt chewed for sending too much stuff there. I also think that we all know plenty of people who work 60 Control and know that they are some of the most professional and well trained dispatch staff out there.

we went thru this in the hollow when i was there. back in 2001 and beginning of 2002 we relied heavily on tarrytown for ambulance coverage. there was a small core group of volunteers that tried to get the rig out, but unfortunately that didn't always happen. i look fondly at my days in westchester county as well as the days i volunteered with sleepy. thru recruitment, and getting new equipment and a few other things the ambulance turned around and response times picked up too. there were times when the medic had to be taken out of service to ride in a bls call too. but things did change. i am still proud to call many of those vollys my friends. that all said, back then the same problem existed, people had to work to put food on the table and a roof over their heads. some people, myself included had to work 2 jobs to make ends meet. now a days with the way the economy is, it's even more so. unfortunateky this is the trend. as you all no doubt know and realize, volunteers are getting harder and harder to find. the other growing trend is paid staffing at least from 6a-6p or 7a-7p, that's just the nature of the beast. north branford up here in ct just went through this. now the way it is, is there is a paid crew days and they respond, if a second call comes in they tone out the volly crew, if they cant get one together it goes to m/a. even though there are a percentage of calls that do roll over for coverage, the majority of calls are handled without having to take resources from another agency, its sad but it has to happen. Croton is going to have to go with paid staffing days whether it be in house or thru an outside agency. that staffing is going to cost money and unfortunately, people are going to see it in their tax bills and are most likely going to complain about it. but it has to be looked at this way, ems is an essential service, you need it no if ands or buts about it, yes its going to cost a few bucks which nobody really has these days, but look at all the days the volunteers did keep things going for pennies on a tax bill. they have that to be thankful for also, while staffing days, its still cheaper in the long run than 24 hour coverage. the other thing is they could get an outside agency to cover and that outside agency bill for services, but thats going to cost the people in town alot more money in the long run. just my 2 cents joe

Mods, If you want to change the heading, etc, feel free. My opinion this guy gives everyone a bad name and he admits it. http://www.5min.com/Video/Rampaging-Renter-Under-Investigation-on-Both-Coasts-517098899?icid=main%7Chtmlws-main-n%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%7C216305
