First of all, and before I get tagged as a malcontent, I have no problem with doing something for the family. If they had wanted a house rebuilt on the site, fine. I just think that it should be with the family's input, and not just slapped together without thinking about it first. Don't forget that some family members were in the house when the plane hit, and managed to escape. There will no doubt be bad memories of that incident among the survivors for quite a while.

While I understand your efforts and applaud your concern, how about listening to what the family wants instead of going off on your own? The house has been leveled and carted away, the foundation has been dug up and the site has been filled with stone. In the spring, the stone will be overlaid with top soil and seeded. The wife of the man killed in the house has indicated that she DOES NOT want to rebuild on the site, at least for the time being. If you are proposing a home on another site, fine, but perhaps the woman who just lost her husband on that block can't stand the thought of returning there and living, no matter how the house gets built. As I said, commendable of you to want to help, but how about taking the family's wishes into consideration here?

Allow me to self correct- the brush truck was not 362. That designation was given to the GMC Top Kick foam unit that Texaco donated to Glenham. If I remember correctly, both the foam unit and a new utility arrived during the same year. The Foam unit became 362 as it functioned as a full engine, and the new utility (a Saulsbury), became 363.

Glenham was indeed 360, 361 and the brush truck was 362. The guys in Glenham wanted to maintain the "old numbering system" that predated my time there. Back when I started with them (mid '70's), I only recall Glenham, Beekman, Millbrook and Unionvale still using the number sequence. Although they were the only ones using them, all departments were apparently assigned the numbers at one point. I can remember that Glenham's running cards for pre=plans used the three digit numbers for engines from Village of Fishkill and City of Beacon. I believe Beacon was numbered in the 350's, don't recall Fishkill's number range.

He's not afraid, it just takes too da__ long to get there! Certainly with the quality firefighters of the Harlem Valley, by the time he got to a job, he'd have nothing to photograph but the probies re-racking the 5 inch!

Well put. We all have our squabbles, but it seems to stay in the "friendly rivalry" mode instead of getting ugly. We're all here for the same reasons......... Kudos to Photounit as well, he is always there no matter the weather or time of day, and always comes away with some amazing shots, angles and lighting. Great job!
