  1. It is being reported on a web site called South Carolina On Fire http://sconfire.com/?p=2687&utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=breaking-news-american-lafrance-fire-apparatus-closes-doors at this point 9:58 pm Jan 17, 2014 it is not being reported anywhere else. Probably gives the parent company the weekend and one extra day to prepare for the financial fallout with market opening on Tuesday sine Monday is a holiday on the New York Exchange
  2. NO, YOU DID NOT READ IT RIGHT! The person quoted in the article, me, does not, did not, work for Crimson or another apparatus manufacturer. I was contacted by the reporter doing the story because my department has purchased two Crimson apparatus. Nothing fishy here I have been involved in the specification and purchasing of apparatus here for 30 years. The Village has very stringent fiscal policies which were followed, as always. Crimson apparatus was purchased because they were the low bidder. I informed the reporter in the process of answering his questions about our experience with Crimson that I have done some work for the consultant. I felt it only fair that the reporter knows that, and I have nothing to hide.
  3. OK Now I will post for the second time in four years. Recently I was called in from home and paid overtime to stand-by in a White Plains firehouse while they battled a blaze on Lake St. There were other Mutual Aide companies in the city as well, I believe two, all on stand-by all at the expense of their taxpayers NOT the City of White Plains taxpayers. Now that the City of White Plains has shown that it is unwilling to pay for a minimum level of protection will the surrounding departments continue to subsidize the City of White Plains at their own taxpayers’ expense but sending in Mutual Aide to stand-by? How do you justify this? Now let’s be very clear I am not, nor would I ever say if a Department needs help you don’t go. If White Plains or anyone else has a fire or other emergency and needs help at the scene they should get all they need from their neighbors. But to expect that other communities should pay for the manpower and apparatus to stand-by in your fire stations when you are not willing to pay for your own employees is ludicrous! Especially for a city like White Plains that enjoys such a broad and lucrative tax base. How come no one is asking where the tax dollars are being spent?
  4. Has either the NY Post or the loudmouth, self-serving, make a name for myself at others expense politician taken into account that statistic comes eight years after 9-11. Much of the FDNY has BEEN retired by the Medical Board because of lung damage and other health issues. Many of these guys didn’t want to retire, they were not given a choice and I am sure anyone of them would love to have back their jobs and their health rather than a disability pension.
