  1. The career guys made one hell of a stop, stretching and operating a 2.5" line off the first arriving ladder by himself, followed up by the other arriving career firemen. The utmost kudos and respect for handling that situation like you did. edit: first arriving unit was the ladder, not an engine
  2. Thanks to the guy who passed this my way. Hopefully everyone can hunker down, and study their rears off for this, because from the looks of it, it's going to be a doozy...
  3. You lose by 1 or you lose by 1,000, it's still a loss....
  4. They'll have to announce it publicly, go out to bid and make sure they dont spec it specifically for a nation...
  5. Pretty sure you mean CO alarm, and not CO2.... either way, how many of these kids are there because of arson? Every alarm is a possible fire, and should be treated as such. I cannot tell you how many res alarms we go to, where there was an actual stove fire occurring, but the homeowner said to slow it down because it was under control. Treat every run like it is the real deal, not the other way around. That sort of thinking with get you in trouble with liability.
  6. Pretty sure that is the Old Carmel Firehouse, that is now the Knights of Columbus.... if my detective work is correct with identifying the cross on the side of the building and doing a search for KofC in Putnam County and getting the google street view of the front.
  7. The biggest problem, is that this school of thought is not taught in EMT-B class. You're given a protocol, told to memorize it, given a practical exam on it to make sure you can properly hook a hose line to the nipple on the O2 bottle, and then sent to "save lives." I think a program that is double in length, or even 1.5 times as long, would allow the instructors time to teach "good clinical judgement." If you have no idea about the hows and whys of something occurring, how can you possibly treat it correctly?
  8. R2-D2... this is the precursor to the X-wing
  9. Yorktown has a full dive rescue/recovery team, swift water rescue team, floods and moving water team, Ice rescue and Ice Diving team, trained to the levels of NFPA through Dive Rescue International. Totally self contained in Rescue 55, they trailer 2 boats, Marine 55 and Marine 56. Members undergo constant training, and in water evolutions as well. YHFD's dive team is available to show our capabilities to your department. Currently we have been listed as automatic aid for a few departments in the northern Westchester area when a water call comes in. We are also training with numerous departments to better their understanding of how they can assist us once our operation begins. If you would like to set up a meeting to discuss our operations and view our equipment and team, please PM and I will forward you to our dive Capt. and Lt.
  10. I thought SeaTow was out of Cold Spring, and their next closest location was NewRo/Sound Shore
  11. Kidnapping / grand theft auto is a crime... just a friendly reminder
  12. Our Mahopac Brothers might be interested in this find... http://realestate.msn.com/for-sale-9-homes-with-a-dash-of-mystery#4
  13. SEATOW.... and just strictly as a informative question, why is the Hudson river, the only area in the country that is not covered by them, and the only area I know of that sends FD and PD units out for non-emergency type recoveries (stalled engines, mechanical problems etc)?
  14. I really hope this is sarcasm, because that's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time
  15. 200 years of tradition..... wait a second
  16. Funny, I applied this exact logic for NYPD and scored 100%. I think you might be onto something! Probably shouldn't be giving away the secrets though.
  17. "This site is best viewed with a resolution of 800x600 (or higher) and supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+, or Netscape 7.0+, or Firefox 1.0+." I was using a different browser and it wouldn't load for me either.
  18. Looks like the demo was built with functionality in mind. The truck, with the exception of the raised roof (which I have no idea if it is an option or stock on all models) has what appears to be a fantastic scrub area. No bells and whistles on the top going down the sides, nothing to get in the way of the bucket in terms of water ways, angled bucket sides for off center rescues or roof picks. Looks like a piece of equipment that was built to do firefighting work.
  19. EEOC makes it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information. It is also illegal to discriminate against a person because the person complained about discrimination, filed a charge of discrimination, or participated in an employment discrimination investigation or lawsuit. If this judge wants to promote the hiring of minorities, thats all fine and dandy and makes for a culturally diverse workplace, but to set a precedence for which race you MUST hire would be completely illegal.
  20. $25 if you apply online (which took 2 minutes to complete)
  21. When it comes, its comes. Just forget you even took the test and you'll stop worrying about it. No sense in being all stressed over it.
  22. "make that 2 garbage pies, 2 meat, 2 pepperoni..., HEY CHIEF, can we get nachos too?!... maybe some tostitos from 7-11 if there's time?!... oh and a bag of Doritos late night too.
