I see what you mean now, and for that, I have no idea

if you look at the entire list, not just by battlion zone, you see that there listed alphabeticly, with the det number appropriate, then as new depts formed, after the list was created, they were added on to the bottom of the list.

Does anyone else notice a serious flaw with the way the boston FF wear there PPE? I dont want to bash, but i feel like what they are doing is extreamly dangerous and will get them hurt or even killed. Yes the car fire issue with the masks was adressed and I am proud that the Lt stood up and gave his men a stern talking to. But then later on in the show, the dorm fire, an even more dangerous issue arose. Actually there were quite a few of them. 1) The FF never even doned a hood. Mask went on then the Helmet and they entered the room on fire! 2) Coats were never buttoned up!! 3) SCBA were not properly worn. The waist strap was not buckled...guess they picked that up from FDNY. 4)The entire time this was happening, the narrator was saying they were donning the appropriate gear, and the officers were partaking in the same acts as well! When i saw this, i was stunned! How could Career FF, someone who deals with this for a living, not take proper precautions to keep themselves from getting injured? I hope others who saw this episode feel the same way that i do. p.s. i dont want this to be a paid/volly bash fest or anything along thoes lines, but mearly to get your points of view on the issue.

Our Campus EMS program that were starting up will be implementing stuff over the next week, because it is Campus EMS Week. Demonstrations, flyers, signs and posters, dorm safety information as well as contacting our school newspaper and informing people of who we are, and what we do. Hopefully we will get a good turn out

I think the reason people dont wear PPE, is to look cool. I honsetly belive that 100%. Why you ask? beacause i was once that way. I know im still a youngon in the FD world but the first year or so, i wasnt properly wearing my PPE, so i could look cool. Sounds stupid to me now, but i was young and nieve back then, and honestly still am in most areas. What caused me to change, was my fault entierely. I was outside a structure fire with the house fully engulfed and collapsed, except for small parts of the frame. The older members, from what dept i will not say, were not wearing there PPE fully and I followed there example, since it was my first working fire. Well needless to say, I was wearing my hood, around my neck and not pulled up. My good luck and fortune had me standing in the path of a water stream from a hose line on the other side of the house. Well a couple of hot embers were taken in that water stream and ended up lodged between the folds of my hood, and my neck. And they stayed there for quite some time while i tried to pull them out with my gloved hands. I now have a nice scar on my neck that is a constant reminder of why PPE is an absolute nessesity, and not a "cool thing" to wear. IT IS YOUR LIFE AND WELLBEING, not something to be worn to get the ladies! You wouldnt go space walking without properly wearing your spacesuit, so why should you fight fires when your not properly wearing your PPE? Never again will i approch a burning structure without my entire PPE on. I lucked out once by having it hit my neck and no where else, next time I might not be so lucky...actually, there will be no next time! Stay safe and smart!

nah, thoes were the actual college dorms, the scene were they were gearing up was in the hallway with doors and room number on them, with thick black smoke pouring out of the room. And even if it was the reinactment, you would think that they would be suting up there PPE even better (if thats even gramatically correct im not sure). The reinactment could be considered training, so train as if it was the real thing. Why wouldnt they want to suit fully up in a training enviornment?

neat, im looking forward to seeing this!

Like i said in the first line, i did not want this to be a bash fest or a paid/volly war, just a gathering of thoughts on the issue. Honestly, i would have posted this thread if i was at a fire myself, and saw my dept or any other dept operating this way. I appologize if anyone has take what I thought was a post on safety, and turned it into bashing. Ill just keep my thoughts to myself next time.

A few friends and I are trying to est. a small EMS agency on campus. No ambulance service, just services for stand-bys. Right now the agency is just getting approved and we have $0. We need to get funds so we can purchase equipment and t-shirts to identify us. The Tee's we'll probally pay out of our own pockets, but the university and city would like us to purchase radios and put them on the same band with DBFD and EVAC ambulance in it. Im just looking for some ideas for how to intitally obtain money for the agency. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated Thanks, emsjunkie712

Thats where were haveing the trouble right now...the liablity. Were working with the National Collegate EMS Foundation to help steer us in the right direction. Right now were currently getting a meeting set up with the dean, safety, risk management, athletics, student life, student activities, housing, and any other groups we'd work closely with. Hopefully all will go well and they will be positive and like the idea.

Recert for FF I, along with any FF class is an excellent idea. Places where fires and car accidents are a rareity could greatly benifit by keeping your FF up to par with their skills. I dont see why this isnt already in effect?

I joined the emergency services for numerous reasons. lol none of them had anything to do with Family involvment since I am the 1st generation FF in my family. It actually came about because of the way my town was turning out to be. As much as no one belives me or any other student who goes / went to my school, but drugs were every where and I wanted nothing to do with that. You could walk down the halls durring class change and scream who got weed, coke ect ect and you'll hvae 8 guys surrounding you wanting you to buy it off them. ok so maybe screaming it was not going to happen, but you get the idea. And im not talking about a school in the big city, I'm talking about Yorktown High School. A school that was suposed to be in the subarbs away from drugs, viloence and all that other crap that is a bad influance was now quite rampent through out our school. Anyways, I saw a sign in town that YVAC was looking for volunteers, so I signed up at the age of 15. Joined their youth group and the rest is history. I moved up through the ranks of lines officers in the Youth Group and eventually moved on the the VAC itself. During my 17th year on this planet, I heard that YHFD just created a Junior Corps. So I went over to find out what that was about, and absolutely fell in love with it. Everything from riding on a fire truck to cutting people out of cars and preforming search and rescue in a burning building enfatuated me. And so a new truckie was born into an engine company . As a couple of months moved on, I realized that this is possibly what I wanted to do with the rest fo my life...but there was one problem, I had already applyed early desicion to Embry-Riddle for fight school and was accepted. And so the battle I have been fighting myself with over the last year and a half was born. Luckly I was able to join the FD down here, Volusia County Fire Services. On the downside, I would have to take all of my classes again, since FL doesnt accept NY FF I. So just as of last week, I changed my status over to driver and once my classes are finished, ill become a driver for VCFS. Thats right, I'll be driving the fire engine at 19! I think the main reason I have not stopped firefighting, is beacuse it is me. My friends are always pokeing fun at me every time I see a fire truck go by or how I get all happy at the sound of a federal siren . lol yesterday we went to an airshow and all I wanted to do was look at the ARFF trucks lol. So I think that firefighting is me and that is why I am so motivated to continue in this field, and hopefully, I'll never have to give it up!

May be they want an Ice Down to go with the color of their truck? lol sry, just messing with ya tarrytown. Its a beautiful truck!
