  1. so will northern westchester be getting rain?
  2. I concour! Excellent class and I sure improved my knowledge 10 fold! Congrats to all!
  3. Volusia County, FL runs 3 paid and if they are lucky, 1 volunteer. We also have no ladders anywhere in the county with the exception of daytona beach which only has 1 tower ladder!...obviously there is something wrong here
  4. I agree with a bunch of what you say excpet for the Monday Morning Quarterbacking (mmq). The way I look at it, if someone snaps a photo of me doing something wrong, and I am unaware of it, i want to know about it, learn about it, correct it, and never let it happen again, to anyone! I dont know why people would get offended at someone pointing out they were doing something wrong. Learn from your mistakes and correct them. I dont see it as a personal bash on any one person, department or municipality, I view it as an excellent learning tool. In Firefighter I, we viewed numerous videos of bad things happening, i.e. a live fire drill where the house literally exploded, among other videos as well. By what people are saying about mmq, does this mean we should no longer talk about the incidents where Departments screwed up?! Sorry if i struck a nerve on that last statement, but if you have a problem with you or your deparment being shown a problem and ways to fix it, it means that your ego is way to big for you to be anywhere near the fire department. Everything we do is a learning process. Admit that, "I messed up and I'm going to fix it." That right there takes courage...isn't that something we're supposed to have anyways?
  5. this could get very very interesting!
  6. see ya there, but you knew I was comeing
  7. I too have heard this...Its probally out of bad habit / rut for Auto Alarms
  8. Dont worry, your not alone! I will go down in flames with you on this one...pun intended. For me, hearing "XXXXX 10-19, 10-84 Nothing Showing" means that I dont have to worry about "takeing my time" or not. Im not talking about driving like a bat out of hell with 30 blue lights and an old air raid siren blareing on my car to make the Eng or Truck. Also when im in the appuratus and I hear nothing showing It lets me gather myself and go through that checklist in my head a little eaiser then if they had arrived on scene for a possible 10-75, and just said 10-19... Well what does that mean? Are you on the scene and things are so *#%$$% crazy that the person radioing 60-control dropped the mic because the roof just blew off, or that the homeowner is outside in the driveway telling the driver, it was just food on the stove. It helps me greatly with my intial size up. It lets me know that if there is/was a fire, I need to be wary of backdraft if it has died down, among other things. Last rant...How is the 5 seconds it takes to say 10-19, nothing showing blocking VALUBLE RADIO TIME if nothing is going on?? my $.01999999 as well
  9. were you in my class? lol
  10. any link to see what it looks like?
  11. sounds like a great idea!
  12. I agree...dont get me wrong im a probie by all accounts, but there are certain people that i can think of that act this way. One of them we call 2 weeks - he was in 2 weeks and acted like he was king. I hate when I see them being disrepectful, not following orders or being just plain stupid. I take up there slack and try and "pick up" after them.
  13. Someone correct me if im wrong, please, but it is my understanding (through what ive been taught down here in FL) that the NFPA are guidelines...meaning you dont have to follow what the NFPA says. My Dept down in FL follows what the NFPA recommends only beacuse in court, a good lawyer will question why you didnt follow a standard set of guidelines. So to Vistafd 126 and loopy31, according to what i've been taught, a secondary siren is not nessicary. I however am all for the FD sirens, i just enjoy the sound. Again someone please correct me if I am wrong. I would hate to spread this false info to others.
  14. Count me in!!! <<<note the avatar
  15. What is the driving age for your dept for fly cars, cheifs vehical, brush trucks, engine, ladder, ect ect in your deptartments? Down here in FL im starting to drive at 19, could have started at 18, but back Home its 21.

  19. how come they never tought us this in FF I...kindda vital information
  20. maybe the two of them were drinking together if the garbage man was peeing on his route...
  21. My combo dept hold the same standards for its volunteers and paid guys. We train and drill together and our paid guys arent just drivers. I dont see why there has to be anger between everyone. WE'RE BROTHERS!
  22. http://volusia.org/fireservices/bulletin.pdf These are all the classes I must take in FL before stepping on the aparatus as well. 13 in total and im 4 down. Orientation (4 hours), ICS-100 (20 page take home woth test), CPR (BLS for the healthcare provider), IRHMI:BC (intial response to haz-mat incident : basic concepts...12 hours) and a lot more to go
  23. Got the job offer a while back, and the orientaion / training was today. Day started at 0800 and ended at 1700. First went over what we do there yadda yadda. Then at 1100 we got a tour of the speedway, took us in all the suites, including bill frances, the media boxes, time keepers box and.....The roof of the nextel tower !! Sorry no pics, I had no idea we were doing this. Next came training, went over all the ambulances, golf carts, strechers/stairchairs equipment and gear to be worn. Blue or red (depending if your doing Fire or EMS) nomex racing suits, Helmets, high angle rescue equipment for the high turn accidents...and all the other stuff to go along with it. Had some lunch which the fire guys cooked up Hot dogs, hamburgers, steaks, sausages, potoato salad, chips and homemade salsa...AWESOME lunch. After lunch went out and ran an actuall scenario...3 car crash on turn 2...1 car on fire-driver trapped unconscious. 1 car pinned at the top of the incline...driver unconscious...1 driver on the grass spun out conscious and out of the car. High angle rescue was required...the 30 degree slope is ALOT steeper then you think, alot steeper. All in all it was an awesome day and im looking forward to working there!
