yorktown has a couple in front of the firehouse, as well as scattered through town. We also have the blinking stop signs for people who feel that stops signs are only a suggestion.

Seriously. I use Gmail and it is the best email program I have ever used. I have about 100 invites left, so if anyone wants one, pm me your email and I'll gladly give you one.

Date: 12/25/06 Time: 0800 Location: Central Florida including Volusia, Seminole and Columbia Counties Departments: Multiple Description: Multiple tornadoes down, destruction causing the displacement of over 200 people. Apartment complexes in Daytona Beach and Deland have been hit hard. My school in particular took extremely heavy damage from an F2 tornado...damage will probably be in the multi-millions. There are multiple building collapses on my campus, as well as almost complete destruction of our flight line. edit: anyone have a good uploader I can use to place a few pictures here? ill be sending more pictures to emtbravo.com from my friend at school right now. I completely agree. I think if the residents knew what a 25 minute response time feels like, they would change there mind immediately... How does Brewster deal with response times now, especially with an ambulance run down in that area?

http://www.graceindustries.com/FireSafety/...uateSystem.html This is the T Pass 3 system...its used for evac purposes, but I think with more integration, FF names, departments / company, certifications, blood type ect ect could be placed into each unit, if every FF recived their own personal one.

Names Alex and I'm 20 years old. I was born in Brewster, NY and lived there untill the 4th grade when I moved to Yorktown Heights, NY where I have continued to live. I graduated from Yorktown High school in 2004 Currently attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Univerisity and trying to obtain an BS in Safety Science. I got involved with emergency services when I was 14 with Yorktown VAC in their youth group. Became a NYS-CFR at 16, moved over to Yorktown Heights Fire Departments Junior Corps at 17. I was the first member of the junior corps to move up to a regular member at age 18. Down at school I am invloved with the countywide fire deparment Volusia County Fire Services as a probationary Driver/engineer. I am one of the 3, college aged, founding members of Embry-Riddle Emergency Medical Services, which is a campus based, quick response bike team, designed to arrive to 911 calls prior to the ambulance and FD getting there. The three of us have delt with the college dean, Daytona Beach Fire Department's Cheif, EVAC (which is not really a VAC, its a paid service) ambulances head operators, Voluisa County's EMS corridinator, numerous National Collegate EMS personelle, Risk managers, campus professors, lawyers...the list goes on and on I am a paid EMT at Daytona International Speedway, and have been on the job with them for exactly 1 year now. Cover all aspects of the tracks grounds from the track itself to the fans in the stands to the people leaning up against the fence. Normal days consist of 1 or 2 ambulances on the track if a race or time trial is going...but durring race week, 200,000-250,000 people show up all drunk and all trying to climb up stairs at a 50 degree incline....so we have many ambulances, golf carts, walk around stand crews in place. And yes, we get everything from bumps to full arrests. My goal is to be a career firefighter with FDNY, but I'm always open for ideas. Looked into the military for being a FF with them, and it's deffinatly something i'll continue to look into. lets see...certs... I hope that wasnt a Co2 extinguisher

I can attest to this comment...A buddies department in a neighboring state, does not even require them to take FF 1 to become an interior FF. They just have to go through the in house training.

Im going to quote myself from the IAFF sticker thread...just because I now feel this post suits this thread a little better..

And in many places they are. I have been volunteering in Volusia County Fire Services in FL for 2 1/2 year now...and I still havent responded to a single call...why you ask? I have one class, EMS/Fire report writing, out of 13 or so that I have not compleated because it keeps getting cancelled. VCFS requires that all volunteers and career firefighters be held to the same exact standards...no more, no less. This is true with combo departments all around FL. I have spent countless weekends, nights, a school day here and there, a few social gatherings, ect ect to compleate these 13 classes, some which I have already taken. The reason they make me take them over again is standarsization throughout the entire department. They want everyone on the same page, regardless of where they came from.

we need a  smilie for this exact purpose. Well said.

Down here in FL, all hydrants are marked by a blue reflective bump in the middle of the right lane, or on the shoulder on the highways, much like the rumble bumps on the yellow center lines. These can be seen from way down the road, as well as felt, just in case you missed the odd blue reflection from the middle of the road. It works really well down here, but only because we dont have snow. I think a combination of that, along with hydrant flags during the winter time, could make for an efficent way to find a water source up in the good old north east.

rest in peace brother

Over here at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach we have a Safety Science program, concentrating in both Occupational Safety and Aviation Safety, which is what I am currently enrolled in. I am also minoring in homeland security. here are links to both Safety Science http://www.erau.edu/db/degrees/b-safetyscience.html Homeland Security- There is no link to the degree, only because the degree is in it 2nd semester on our campus...here is an over view of the degree though.

I was at a party this weekend where there was 1 real cop walking through the crowd. Some guy decided to grope some women, and the cop caught him in the act. When the cop, who was about 5'8"-5'10"and 170lbs approached the guy, who was 6'sometall and 220 lbs, and told him to stop, the guy thought he was dressed up as a cop. So he told the cop to get out of his face and gave him a little shove. The cop didn't like that too much, so he went to place him under arrest. When he reached for his hand, the perp, punched him in the face and knocked him against the wall. The cop had no time to call for backup, but yelled out for someone to give him a hand as he was wrestling with the guy, trying to get it under control. No one was giving him a hand, so I jumped in saying "same team, same team" to the cop, so I didn't get my a$$ beat. We proceeded to take him down, and handcuff him, when he decided he was going to start spitting at us...thats when the cop pepper sprayed him. He was not a happy camper after that, but a lot more controllable. that was my exciting story from the weekend...only in daytona beach
