  1. ....what happened to the beginning of my post?
  2. i.e. IC quickly asks BC for 2 engines and a ladder, BC then contacts 60 control with the units he wants from what department, while the IC is able to return to the incident and run it without having to worry about which department is getting pulled and for what.
  3. just wondering how Ossining FD set up their box alarms, and what each one means
  4. That is the most a** backwards, and dumbest thing I have ever heard. The people driving in their cars have no idea what is going on, and what happens if you hit someone going lights and sirens to a non-emergency event?
  5. What if you pull over a volly?
  6. Rescue 32 = utility 40 and yes, the alarm assignments have changed, to what I'm not sure
  7. waste of resources? they're not pulling the AED's from other areas, just purchasing more for their members. If your family member had a heart attack and went into V-fib, and an EMT showed up on-scene with an ambulance en-route, but had an AED ready to be used, wouldn't you feel a whole lot better about the emergency services in your town?
  8. without a doubt...the brutal hits that these guys take time and time again would be enough to knock everyone of us on our a** with one blow. Their intense training and unparalleled skills are thousands of times greater then any other sport I've seen.
  9. lol this could go on for days, I think you ment "I think you MENT"
  10. Fine by me. What really bothers me is that if it was me, and not my sister who had walked out to the car, or had I been coming home (since I was out at the time on a fire call) and found this trash going through the car, I would have probably taken a lot of pent up anger out on him. Now in this wonderful state of New York, had I done that I would probably be sitting in jail right now because I violated his rights. In Florida or Texas however, if I had shot him dead on my property using my concealed carry gun, I would be able to walk away scott free. Gotta love this liberal state we live in where I cant even touch someone who is invading my property to defend whats mine. I have to try every means possible to get out of the situation such as jumping out a window, or fleeing the area and leaving my family to take whatever the perp wants to do to them. I'm sorry, but to me, the laws regarding self defense in this state are completely messed up beyond belief
  11. Seriously, some freaking scum bag just broke into my sister car about an hour ago and tried taking stuff. She walked outside to get her iPod out of her car and there was someone rummaging through it. She screamed bloody murder after she realized it wasn't me, and the hood rat took off running. So now I'm up, sitting on my porch waiting for some street troll to come back into my once nice and quiet neighborhood, and when he does, his a** is as good as dead.
  12. the engine to people ratio has nothing to do with why departments have specific rigs or the number of rigs they do. If we really want to get into it, like we have 1000x in the past, consolidation of departments would be the best way to go. But the truth of the matter is, who's to say we don't need 197 engines? Backfilling of departments after mutual aid is called for lack of manpower...lets be serious, its there, on a tuesday morning at 10am you're lucky to comparably get a minimally staffed career rig, with the number of volunteers around....multiple calls in districts, and if we want to get back to the original question, not to call for mutual aid, and fight the fire in house, are all reasons that departments buy and obtain the rigs that they do. If it was up to me, we would have a county department, excluding the major cities, who would operate on 1 radio system (include the major cities here) with an engine, or an engine ladder house, or a rescue house throughout the county. It works like a charm in most other areas around the country...why can we not do it here?
  13. so the old joke really has come true.... Whats the one thing cops and firefighters have in common? they both want to be firefighters
  14. I have been in that situation, and it wasnt a cop, and the driver did attempt to run him over, but missed since he ducked behind the wheel. I am all for the verdict of the police getting off, but I just want to let it known that when somone is shooting at you point blank (the guy who was shooting at us was obviously not a cop) your instincts are to run, flee and attempt to take out the source of violence against you.
  15. at least you guys have an ambulance http://clubs.db.erau.edu/dbems/

  18. Our department hands out the new tot finder stickers. They are no longer placed in the windows of the child, but rather on the inside door frame and lower part of the door below the handle. They are made of highly reflective material which can be seen from flashlights from interior search and rescue operations. They are also easily removable from the door and door jams, unlike the old window stickers. http://www.alertall.com/store/item.asp?id=001

  20. I'd agree with 100% of the equipment on the website
  21. I used to work for A and P supermarket, and they refused to let me go to anything. There was a small fire at Miragio's resturant a few months ago, and one of my buddies who still works there, came to help out with the call. While he was inside the restaurant, his boss came over and asked me where he was. I told her, and she became furious that he left work, and was "playing around" in the fire. not sure what happened disciplinary wise, but I think he still works there. edit: A&P is right next door to miragio's
  22. While I was in Savannah for St. Patty's day, I noticed that the building above the bars window's were barricaded randomly with plywood that looked to be permanently attached to the structure. A couple things run through my mind about operations, and building codes dealing with this. First, What would be the top priority of the arriving units if one of these rooms was on fire (lets say the building is occupied by residents in their apartments throughout the entire building). Removal of the board, or fire suppression. How would you go about doing either or. How would you deal with a mayday from a firefighter trapped in one of these rooms. Also, are there any codes, up in NY, that prohibit or regulate how barricades are put up in windows? edit: feel free to share any other tactics you see fit
