  1. You always came across as one of the fairest and most balanced mods here. Thank you for your time
  2. Apparently, word on the street is that Mrs Seigel will be taking a pay raise over the next year... We'll be looking into this
  3. How was the stabilization done during extrication? Was a heavy wrecker used, or low pressure air bags or a combination of both? Cant really tell from the ops pictures. Either way, looks like a tough pin.
  4. The fire district is responsible for all alarms that it is dispatched to in its district. I know for Yorktown, the TJ Watson Research Facility has its own Incipient Fire Brigade, Confined Space Rescue Team, Emergency Medical Team, and HazMat team. They respond to false alarms daily and are a great resource for the site. In the fire side, they have their own control center which monitors all alarm activity, and has its own internal version of a E911 system and dispatch personnel accordingly. For a single head activation, or single point of alarm, other then a phone call of active fire, 2-3 members are sent on the assignment. Their protocol for anything more then a single head, 2 or more points of activation, is to page the team out for a full assignment, stage at the nearest fire cart locations, and then mitigate the incident. Active fires will bring in a fire department response through a direct line from the control center to 60-Control. We will not cancel our response once initiated unless one of our own units is on scene, strictly as a CYA for the district.
  5. The vote that went out and was shot down many years ago was on whether or not the District should go out to bond on the money for the firehouse. The bond was shot down, not the firehouse itself. The commissioners then chose to set aside money each year, rather then go out to bond, in a Sta 3 Reserve Fund, as a direct line item on the budget. The budget is public and legal notices are put out each month in newspapers that the readings will occur. This was not hidden or pork barreled anywhere, and can also be found on the Engine Co. Website here http://www.yorktownfire.org/content/ourdistrict/ .

  7. P.O. Abraham had just saved the life of a choking victim 7 hours before his accident. Rest in Peace Officer Abraham. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/hero_cruel_fate_XKg93z48A800qsi98acENN
  8. Yorktown's ladder was the 2nd to last to be built.
  9. Commmmmmonnnnnnnnnnn...he was the DD, no one saw him drink. Interesting to see how this will affect the investigation.
  10. That's the bread and butter of this forum though... Sometimes it needs to be stirred to light a fire under someones / some department / some county's a**. Either way, if you cant afford $20 a year, skip a night out at the bar and you can pay for the next 3 years down the line.....
  11. Sorry, had to change it around for you... Not that it makes it any different as in the case with the Irvington officer with a kid, but this was a 20 year old. Someone old enough to vote, old enough to live on his own, old enough to join the military, old enough to do basically anything he wanted except drink. Not blaming you for calling him a kid, but he was an adult, who made an unfortunate adult decision that, like was said before, led to his death. People need to realize that, yes he was in college, but he's an adult, not a high schooler who, in the eyes of the law and our society, commited adult crimes, and paid for it like an adult. There was no duress or any other wrong doing to cause this individual to put his car in drive, and attempt to flee the scene while striking the officers in the process other then his own will.
  12. I was at Finnegan's last weekend and the police came to quell the underage drinking. There must have been 150-200 people in the bar, and when the officers asked everyone under 21 to leave, there must have been 10-15 people left.
  13. Shoot the tires.... It's amazing that people take what they see in movies and actually think that it is how it works in the real world
  14. It makes me sick to my stomach to know that Pace University held a campus sponsored vigil for the perp. I can understand holding a moment of silence for a fallen student, or a candle light vigil for someone who pereished in a tragedy, but to hold an entire ceremony for someone who was in the process of committing multiple felonies makes me wonder how a$$ backwards this Country is becoming. While we're at it, lets hold a vigil for Diane Schuler as well.

  16. The comment section of that article sounds like hyenas fighting over a kill.... We will just have to wait and see IF, and that's a big if, there was a delay, what caused it. - cell phone bouncing off the wrong tower causing the caller to have to be transferred from location to location - not transferring the actual caller to 60-Control - dropped 911 calls - any slew of things Again, we all know from being in this business, that a 3 minute response time (not including the chief) from dispatch is a hell of an accomplishment. Kudos to all the agencies, both PD, FD and EMS, involved in suppression and rescue; you all did one hell of a job to ensure no one was injured or killed in what could have been a devastating fire.
  17. Just as an idea for other departments.....Anytime there is the possibility of a fire or dive call in a neighboring department, members get on a group chat and send a text out. Guys who are available send a message back and if it sounds legit enough start heading to the FD, so everyone already knows if we're going who's going to show up. First due, Mutual aid as a specific Co. or as a FAST, our guys enjoy going to fires and love what we do (we absolutely hate to see property damaged and lives destroyed, but we enjoy being able to mitigate a problem, help formulate a solution to minimize the damage and assist the individuals affected). Why would someone sign up to take a career or volunteer their time, to be something that they don't want to be? You are now part of the snowballing problem of volunteer / combo departments who are able to "boost numbers" with individuals on the roster, who never show up to do anything. "Oh our roster has 70 active members." Really? How many on an average call, working fire, car accident, auto alarm actually show up to do something, three maybe four? My point is being, by padding your numbers with individuals who don't show up, you've now given a false sense of manpower to the community (the people and property you are sworn to protect), "We dont need to supplement with career staff, or hold a huge recruitment drive because of our 70 members." This in turn now adds to your response time for ANY type of call...both from the lack of manpower and the manpower that just doesn't care. EVERY department needs to look at themselves as a business would during a monthly, quarterly or yearly audit and say "What can we do to better ourselves to better our relations with the community, our brothers surrounding us and the fire service as a whole?" If every department did this, and actually made improvements on themselves we would be in a whole different state of affairs in Westchester and in the US.
  18. On Saturday October 9th from 11am until 5pm, the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce will be holding its second annual Fall Festival and street fair on Commerce St in Yorktown Heights. http://www.yorktownf...com/default.htm The Yorktown Heights Engine Co. #1 with the Yorktown Heights Fire District, will also be hosting their annual open house during this time. We encourage all from our surrounding communities to stop by and see how our resources may be able to assist you. www.yorktownfire.org
  19. Anybody who claims that they and or anybody do not pick and choose calls is flat out lying.
  20. I'm stating 'facts that I dont have exact statistic for, but a majority of all FF removals are made from the initial companies making entry, not the FASTeam. Why shouldn't every FF be trained in FAST techniques? My personal belief is that is should be required, along with survival and FF 2 in the inital firefighter class. A majority of other states mandate that it is. Florida for a fact does it this way as well as I wanted to go through their class, but didn't due to time constraints. They wanted everyone, regardless of whether they were career or volunteer, trained the exact same. Why should there be differences between career training and volly training? Fire doesn't give a crap about who you are or what you do for a living, its all the same beast. If you have objections to this, then you need to think about the brotherhood you joined. If you don't want the training for yourself, what about for your downed brother that's trapped?
  21. As an IC, the moment you realize your FAST / RIT isn't coming, get another team. There are no second chances when it comes to re-toning. If your department has an inherent problem with getting your team out...maybe "Mayberry FD" has had this problem in the past and continues to have it....you should seriously think of removing yourself from the county mutual aid FAST response. Why would you even want that liability on yourself?
