Rest in peace brother.
-
This shouldn't happen to ANYONE, regardless of position or title.
-
Good to know you're on the job JFlynn. Helps me sleep better at night knowing that men such as yourself are standing at the ready should the need arise.
-
Interesting topic and one that is often over shadowed by more of the "glory" type work. Being that I have relatives that live there, how are lift assists handled in Yonkers?
-
How do you know its one of the "most realistic" cop dramas out there? Do you have experience as a cop? An Explorer perhaps? Awesome show and this season is taking it to the edge with the killing of Nate. I bet NBC is kicking themselves in the back of the head for canceling the series.

Chief, it was a joke, hence the smiley face. I'm sure you guys up north see plenty of major jobs on a routine basis. QTIP
-
That and the run numbers.

I agree, a little get up and go wouldn't hurt so long as there isn't any traffic just out of camera shot that we can't see that is blocking/preventing him from moving forward which I suspect is the case here. It would have served no one any good if this bus would have gotten involved in a 53 because the ECC kept laying on the horn for him to move.
-
FACT: There are perps on EVERY job. Yours, mine, MTA, the San Man! Everyplace has its bad apples. I wouldn't be so quick to equate the actions or inaction of this bus driver, given the road conditions to that of a perp.
-
Before we start calling for the crucifixion of the bus driver we need to get the whole story/picture which that video clearly shows neither of. Unless some of you guys work/live in NYC you can't even being to comprehend how bad it actually was and how frustrating it was on the emergency services down here. Hopefully the administration will learn from this.

But it sounds soooo much cooler and heroic to have to climb 20 flights while bearing load of 100lbs of equipment each lol. Like one brother already stated, typical Manhattan Hi Rise job. No fuss, no fanfare.
-
Just youtube NYPD Aviation. They do this kind of thing on a daily basis and there is plenty of video both from the helicopters and bystanders of them performing saves.
-
Looks good bro. Little confined space, bit of mask confidence. What other skills does Empress Special Operations bring to the table? What type of rescue equipment(Hurst, high angle, water) do you guys carry in that rig? Thanks for posting.

Yea don't everybody reply at once. Count me in for the 13 dude, I'll be there.
-
Did Yonkers send any units to White Plains? Seems like their department would be the best suited if ANY in Westchester to respond to a mutual aid callout.
-
Dude, why are you on here starting a thread that leads people to believe that certain units within YFD are going to be shutdown or disbanded? Why not just wait and see what happens instead of trying to speculate on what will happen. You don't even LIVE in Yonkers so what's your interest? I'm sure if the brothers from Yonkers care to shed some light on whats going on they will. Until then how about you give all the speculation a rest.

The Westchester DES guys had way more than two people there. Not nearly as much as Yonkers but certainly much more than two guys. Perhaps, had the event been labeled/designated as a "drill, mock disaster or training evolution" the Westchester Tech Rescue team would have shown up in force. Like I said before, great showing by both agencies. Thanks goes out the the Mods and everyone else who helped to clarify what a vital role Stiloskis, Vincents and other area tow companies play in the field. Their capabilities are also rather impressive.
-
I was up there the other day. Pretty impressive showing by the brothers in Westchester DES Tech Rescue Team and Yonkers FD. Both agencies had a ton of equipment up there. Only thing missing was a YFD helicopter. The brothers in blue put on a nice demo cutting up a car and the kids seemed to really enjoy the K9 dogs. I noticed that the tow company in question (Stiloskis) had 3 very nice looking pieces of apparatus. Two of them looked liked and were set up like "Rescue" trucks. In fact they guys there had shirts that said "Recovery and Rescue". Seems that they also had a ton of equipment (air bags, spreaders, rams, cutters, torches, struts, hazmat gear). My question is, I know that Stiloskis puts on a couple of vehicle extrication classes every year but are they actually cutting people out of cars like their shirts would lead you to believe or is that more like a promotional thing?
-
Instead of all the assumption and speculation from people who will have nothing to do with this piece of apparatus, how about we just wait until a member of Yonkers PD comes on here and give us a clue as to how and when it will be employed? Ya'll sound like a bunch of kids at Christmas time, trying to guess just what is underneath the tree. Either way, with the impending budget crisis in Yonkers, I'm sure they need it and I wish them luck with it.
-
The Yonkers team, while a highly trained and well equipped team isn't a FEMA team.
-
Really!? Someone posts a picture of a new piece of apparatus that is going to help better serve the community and all you're worried about is some sort of juvenile, inter-agency rivalry? I have a couple of friends in Yonkers and they get pin jobs on a routine basis. From what I hear they seem to work pretty well with the cops. Since when is a vehicle extrication something that is "stolen" from another agency? I'm pretty sure that the guy in the car could care less if it's the mailman that gets him out, so long as someone does. Guys with a mentality like yours don't even belong on a rig IMHO.
-
I'm also for the "thicker skin" motion. Everyone should stop acting like a bunch of 13 year old school girls and start acting like the professionals they claim themselves to be. This is the internet, if a thread, post or topic bothers you, FEEL FREE NOT TO READ IT! Makes me wonder how some of you guys survive in the kitchen!

Well I didn't mean ruffle any feathers but I just call em like I see them. Historically, any major, water borne emergency in Southern Westchester you have either the NYPD responding with their helicopters and esu guys or you have some FDNY/NYPD marine company going up there as well. Several incidents that immediately come to mind are the car into the Sprain Brook Reservoir (NYPD divers) the overturned vehicle into the Bronx River (divers, helicopter and NYPD ESU/FDNY units) and the small plane that touched down in the Hudson a few years ago (again NYPD helicopter, diver, NYPD/FDNY marine response). All incidents in which either the NYPD/FDNY or both responded with manpower and resources not found in Southern Westchester. Standing on shore with a pair of binoculars watching those guys "do the backstroke" wasn't gonna get them out of the water. If I'm wrong please correct me and enlighten me as to what sort of response is in place for these sort of emergencies.
-
The short and realistic answer to your question is NOTHING! If something of this magnitude were to happen in Westchester the chiefs of both FD and PD would bank on the fact that the FDNY and NYPD will arise to the occasion and save the day yet again. Until that "hear no evil, see no evil", "nothing is broken" mentality is fixed, NOTHING is going to happen other than a call out for mutual aid to the brothers down south. And that's the way it is.
-
Great turnout by brothers from all over. There were a ton of cops there as well. I even saw someone from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police today. RIP FF Joyce 5555
