  1. I like to mountain bike and climb when i can...I like music...i only have 5 guitars unlike my brother's 7 i have 2 drumsets and i write my own music.....
  2. My department (SWFD in Lee County AL) is trying to put together a disaster response trailer in light of the recent tornado's in southern Alabama (we are trying to go down there but we've been playing phone tag with the EMA here) We have a trailer that we are going to outfit for this purpose. I was wondering if anyone had something of this nature at their department; we are looking for ideas of ways to lay out the trailer and also what tools we may have overlooked. Thanks in advance, ryefd192
  3. Cool, thanks...Anyone on here from Croton Falls?
  4. Thanks ALS, yea I think what we are trying to do is be able to offer our services in a multiple range of things, but have proper supplies and equipment for each one. We will most likely be heading to any disaster site with at least 1-2 certified EMT's as well as first aid qualified personell. We also want to be able to offer debris cleanup/search and rescue aid. If we were to respond to a disaster such as New Orleans, where there were fires ; we would take one of our engines, which minimizes the need for fire supression equipment. As of now what we were able to throw together between yesterday and today in the trailer was 2 generators (one owned by EMA so we kinda need to bring it and both just to aid other agencies as at this time whe have nothing we would need electricity for) some hand tools (axes halligan shovels rakes) gas saws (chain and k12) two SCBA's (just in case, with extra bottles) our medical equipment (jump bag, collars, backboard) some handlights, gas (mixed and regular) extra mix oil...and i cant remember if anything else....but that was what we had as we didn't know where we would be assigned or what the degree of work would be when we got there. I hope we will make the trailer more organized and less of a broad spectrum of tools, but they may want us to keep it that way so we can be listed as multiple degrees of aid....it remains to be seen
  5. We're looking towards the type of responses we will need for down here...mostly severe weather type. Hurricanes, tornados and the like is what we will be using it for. As I said, we would have been down near Enterprise today where the weather hit yesterday but the alabama EMA kept telling us they would call and let us know and hours later we would call back, or they would say, " they need people, but you'll have to call this number to see if they need people" !!!!!!!
  6. As you said, the stuff is meant for mostly commercial use. That said, hopefully you won't encounter it in a situation where you need to breach a wall for survival. We learned about this stuf 2 years ago in my FF1 class because survival poses the biggest problem for us with this stuff (my instructor gave us a brief intro into survival). If for some reason it is in a structure where it is put on an interior wall, if you get stuck you're screwed. But if its in a structure where you are worried about fire in the walls, you may just have to bust out the heavier equipment to open them up.
  7. This may have been discused(SP?) before...but do you prefer side or top mount pump controls and why? I think top simply because it gives a better overview of the scene for the pump operator.
  8. I've never seen that before, what apparatus manufacturer is that?
  9. I see a lot of people's points about the side mount being better in cold weather, and with some of the cab and hose bed heights. Down here in Alabama we don't really have to worry about the weather, and our trucks are an '87 and a '93/'01 E-one. (the second one got flipped and had major repairs, hence the 2 years) both are top mount and neither of them have issues seeing over the cab or hose bed. Also, ive just always felt that if your on a side panel and for some reason the truck is pulled up in a way that the panel is on the opposite side from the incident, you have no idea whats going on on the other side of the truck....

  11. I always heard of it happening to kids who took extasy, since they say the drug causes increased thirst.
  12. It is true that everyone on here knows we speak as individuals. but also as said, the media can take anything we say and turn it in such a way as to shed a bad light on our department. The same, I believe, can go for people new to the boards or in a situation where they don't take things as individual opinions; they can take what is said in the wrong way, and that is how rumors start.
  13. I completely agree. One of the things I had stressed to me, and I will be stressing as I teach this semster's probie class down here in AL is, how do your actions reflect on the department. We make it clear that the department name and affiliation is not something to hide behind or use to try to get yourself out of trouble. This should go for all situations, if you are in any way affiliating yourself with a department, wether you be wearing the t-shirt while in a bar and some guy insults your girlfriend, or you be reading something on Bravo you don't agree with; you should always think of how it will reflect on everyone you work/volunteer/associate with in your department and community.
  14. The house is on Milton Point, and is known as clamtown USA.....don't ask me why, I always forget.
  15. It was under the assumption of a heavy snow, sorry, I should have stated that. We had that exact situation about two years ago. We had an attic fire during a snow storm. They put guys on the roof, but then they came off almost immediately because they were having such trouble because of the snow.
  16. My one thing is; keep guys off the roof. Use the aerial. The roof is going to be slippery as well as having a snow load, we have to take into account the added load to the roof that may make it collapse more easily under stress.
  17. Ok, so here's the scene that happened today. I am on winter break in my girlfriend's home town of Hendersonville TN. As I went out today to run some errands I came upon this scene: A green chevy blazer on its roof, mostly in the right lane of the road, but partly in the left, and then one of the wheels of the vehicle in the left lane. Yet, people were driving, nearly full speed right between the two. Upon seeing this, I parked my car and proceeded to direct traffic until the local authorities arrived. Meanwhile the five or six people who had witnessed the accident, and were just standing and staring did nothing. Even some of the people driving gave me dirty looks as if they couldn't understand why I was directing them away from this scene. My question is, are people just that stupid, to potentially put someones life in danger even more(assuming there might be someone in the car on its roof, luckily no one was, but there was no way to tell except up close) or even risk causing another accident thus amplifying the situation, or am I just out of my mind?
  18. The state calendar lists no classes for this year, any possibility of it being at the westchester training center?
  19. I agree with the first part, but remember your the older sibling, so I take after you...and I kinda noticed that yesterday, I'll hafta think of a new signature...o well
  20. I know the DES site well, I wondering if anyone had any insider knowlege....
  21. Its kinda funny that you can't get it in CT, two states over from where its brewed, yet I have seen it for sale in Alabama....
  22. Anyone know when they will post the 2007 state training schedule? Thanks. ryefd192
