  1. Yes they are. Check out their website, here. Be careful with the term "rescue", it has different meaning around the country. But I think I understand what you are trying to say. Wake County EMS does not provide their own rescue service, only patient care and transport. They work very well with the FDs down there since they both respond on medical calls. If you go through their website, you'll learn a lot. Like Goose said... these are my opinions, you are entitled to yours How many EMS agencies do this...
  2. Wake County, NC is known to have one of the best EMS systems in the coutry. It's a county wide system with no relation to FD.
  3. Drivers for MEMS and VAC are not paid at all. If no volunteers sign up for a shift then TMAD will pay for a driver. If a driver never shows, then who ever has 49-12 would respond to drive the bus.
  4. Got some questions... How many Somers FD/EMS calls go to Heritage Hills? It seams that a they are a frequent destination for SVFD. Also can 80B1 go mutual aid if requested? I do however applaud Somers for looking into this and making the protection of lives and property first.
  5. Very interesting. Glad to see it. Full Article from the NY Post
  6. Very interesting idea but only time will tell. Would this work in the tri-state? Full Article Photo courtesy of CBS 4 Denver News Other Articles: Denver Post CBS 4 Denver
  7. Seth, what is this all about? From Facebook
  8. This has been talked about on these forums before. Such as here and here. What happened to not starting a disusion in a photo thread? Where did you find that image? off google I suppose? It's mine, but you can use it for this purpose only. If you don't trust me, its the same photo I posted back in 2010 (proof) There are no foward-facing blue lights, just rear-facing. They are located on the top rear lightbar. But lets not get into a blue light discusion. Nice picture by the way.
  9. Here is the interview... It's a great video!
  10. This is not a discusion of lights, just me sharing a great article. So, please do not discuss lights and sirens here. This article was written by New Hampshire Busines Review, and features Whelen as they compete with foreign companies. It's a great reason to buy american! 11. This is a great serivce for the residents inside the WECAD District. Check out their website, here. Lisa Ward, the new Coordinator for the Western Eagle County Ambulance District (WECAD) Community Paramedicine program. WECAD has won nemours awards for their great service to their community. Great Job WECAD! Keep it up. MSNBC wrote a great article on this program earlier this month. Paramedics filling health care gap as need grows My only question is the difference between Community Paramedics and a visiting nurse service. I know they are different but offer similar services.

  14. Yes, Rikers Island was the crash site for Northeast Airlines Flight 823, Feb. 1, 1957. It was a Douglas DC-6 enroute for Miami and crashed after taking off from runway 4 in a snow storm, killing 20 of the 100 people on board.

  18. They are not illegal but are sort of frowned upon in the US. Gas ambulances are cheaper but do not perform like a diesel ambulance. Overall, Diesel is the way to go, IMO.
  19. LGA Kids Day 2011 Saturday September 17th Noon to 4pm Free parking in Lot 7 (next to Marine Terminal) Each year, the Kiwanis Club of LaGuardia teams up with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to allow children and the public to experience an up close view of the sights and sounds of the airport. Airlines such as American, US Airways and Delta usually each bring out an aircraft for visitors to tour as friendly flight attendants hand out snacks and beverages. The Geico Skytypers often make an appearance along with a fly-by at the end of the event as well. This is an awesome event! Yes, it is 100% FREE! 20. Seth, I wish I could go! This has to be one of my favorite events of the year. Unfortunately, I am at college now and am unable to come home this weekend. I'm in the same boat as you. I posted this event hoping others would go and take pics. So, any takers?
