Several volunteer FD's upstate that I'm familiar with run a SUV flycar or light rescue for EMS calls. It makes more sense to send a flycar to an EMS call than send a fire truck. In the long run, it saves money. Here is Greenfield Fire District's (Maple Ave Fire Co.) BLS Flycar. It runs on about 300 calls per year.

Without getting into a discussion about lights... It has been proven that blue warning lights can be seen from farther distances in all weather, than compared to red or amber lights. On a side note, I love that truck! What will it be used for?

Can someone explain this to me? Is this to much liability or is it not professional? Full Article on NBCNewyork.com Full NY Post Article

Yes, they are organized as a career FD. It seams the press is bashing the FD. But I have to say, the City needed to decide fast and this was their best temporay option. Full Article The SSFD should start transporing in as little as next week.

No.. you are right, there is something missing. Unfortunately, that other 50% will be made up by surrounding volunteer agencies (Malta Ambulance, Wilton EMS and Bolston Spa Ambulance). Some students at Skidmore College(located in Saratoga) have proposed plans to start a volunteer, student-run EMS group for the campus and surrounding area. They have been delayed in starting up since they need to work with the current service provider, and up to last night, it was still undecided. They were targeting a start date of September 2012. At some point, I'm sure they will be added to the equation. Another Article: Full YNN Artilce and Video

and AED! All apparatus should have proper EMS gear as well, even if they don't run ems. If I had my way, I'd add CPR, First Aid and AED training to the FF1 curriculum, among other stuff.
