  1. These are the automatic mutual aid/dual responses that I'm familiar with: Pelham/Pelham Manor/Mount Vernon, Mamaroneck Town/Mamaroneck Village, Mamaroneck Town/Larchmont, Purchase/West Harrison, Croton Falls/Somers, Yorktown/Bedford Hills, Ossining/Millwood, Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow/Irvington, Valhalla/Hawthorne, Purchase/Armonk/Port Chester, Pocantico Hills/Archville and Briarcliff/Millwood Verplanck/Montrose/Buchanan run automatic standby mutual aid
  2. Damn, thats a really nice truck! It'd make a great tanker!
  3. What officer wouldn't want AWD?
  4. This is the Yorktown FD Fire District. The Flames represent fire stations. The flame on the botton is the location of the proposed station 3. What apparatus would be staioned here? Does that area have hydrants? The map is from Yorktownfire.org
  5. I'd like to know why more departments don't run dual responses. They seem like a "quick fix" to manpower and equipment issues on a scene. Don't have enough cribbing for an MVA? Can't reach the tallest building in your district? If a neighboring FD does, why not borrow their resources? In more rural areas, not every FD does extrication. They rely on dual responses with rescue departments or other FD's to do it. Have a reported structure fire in a non-hydrant district? Why not have a dual response with an FD to supply a source engine, since you are probably not getting the first due engine, and tanker and source engine from the same FD anyway. Another example would be on a highway. If your FD only has access to one direction and needs to go to the next exit in another district and flip around, don't you think that FD can get there faster? Or if there are even no ramps in your district and you have to go through another district just to get on the highway. Would it make more sense to have the FD with easier access send an engine or rescue, in addition to any of your resources to a MVA or MVF? Suppose a FD also provides ambulance services and has manpower issues. If there is an MVA in your district, wouldn’t it make sense for your FD to supply the bus and have a dual response with a neighboring FD to supply an engine/rescue? I know this might not be the story in the Hudson valley, but upstate FD’s face this every day. I’m not saying every call need to be a dual response, just in certain parts of a district for certain calls. I don't know the science behind a dual response so maybe someone can fill me in. Besides both chiefs approving, do commissioners/wardens/etc have any say? Do the municipalities have to approve? Can a fire district do a dual response with a fire department? I'm in no way trying to rant here, just wondering if we are doing the best for our districts. It’s all food for thought.

  9. They have a website... http://www.amogerone.com/Amogerone/Home.html and they are getting a new truck. So I assume they're still in operation.
  10. Relax. I remember hearing GFD Car 5 sign on to Fire 19 when they responded to the airport. But I guess that was a higher level. Anyways, thanks for the correction.
  11. About the bill... Full explination by Mike McEvoy (NYS EMS Council)
  12. From a local EMS Council...
  13. Nice Summary. However, I think HQ is a combo. The Volunteer Hose and Chemical Co. No. 2 and Amogerone Fire Co. No. 1 are the 2 volunteer companies at HQ. Squad One, the GFD Cascade unit, is kept at HQ and is volunteer run. Does GFD run EMS calls? I know banksville does in NY. GFD also responds to HPN for any aircraft emergencies. Here is how the staffing is run (From Local 1042)...

  15. Well its official... the SSFD began to transport patients to the hospital today. SEMS is still in business and still has their certificate and thus will be trasnporting patients when SSFD is busy. The EMS response to a medical call is now 1 Engine and 1 Ambulance. As of now, they only have 1 ambulance in service. Full YNN Article and Video Full Saratogain Article
  16. Few posible outcomes... 1) Cars will be painted blue (unlikely since they already have lights installed) 2) Cars are being used as part of the Commercial vehicle enforcement/DOT division (they use black cars) 3) NYSP is using a new paint scheme 4) Cars will be stickered with blue panels 5) It's not NYSP 6) I'm wrong They use a different lighting package. Also, their cars don't have push bumpers. But still a possibility.
  17. Troop and thruway units are still going to be navy blue.
  18. Caprice has a 112 cubic foot interior while the Impala has a 105 cubic foot interior. For comparison, the CVPI has a 107 cubic foot interior. source
  19. The begining stages of the changeover has gone well so far. It could be as early as tomorrow when the FD starts to transport. Full Saratogian Article
  20. What do most EMS agencies charge for transport (ALS & BLS)? Do they also charge per mile driven? If so, how much? Who is in charge of the rate being charged? The reason why I am asking is because a local agency is trying to boost the price. Thanks in advance.
  21. The department we are talking about, is called the Greenfield Fire District. They responded to about 1200 calls last year. There are 4 companies in the district, unsure of the breakdown. 3 of the 4 companies run EMS calls. Not all EMS calls recieve a FD response. I believe they may be the exception, more FD than EMS calls. Anyway, nice post.
  22. Good point! IMO, It doesn't make sense to me to take an engine out of service to respond to a nose bleed. It's more appropriate to have a SUV Flycar or utility respond. If they do get a fire call, they usually respond to the scene since they are firefighter as well. Most VFD's don't have the manpower to fill an engine with EMTs. For the flycar pictured above, that VFD only has 2-3 Firefighter/EMT, compared to 30 active firefighters.
  23. They ordered 7, not sure if all have arrived.
  24. I'd have to say, I'm not a huge fan of it either. But, it does look nice in black and white...
