At least two other cities (El Segundo and Monterey Park) with similar demographics to Hermosa Beach tried this recent years. Both were defeated by taxpayers at referendum even though they came with savings.

I might be biased because I got the job, but I don't see anything wrong with the system as it is. If you want to be a Firefighter, then you should have a "whatever it takes" attitude to get on.

OK I know what NY state law says I quess my point is the law is outdated. There is no question the blue is more effective in poor lighting so why keep the law as is. Ohh I know NY doesn't do much of anything right I forgot we pass a safe NY act over some incident that happened in another state and make noone safer just closer to being the slaves of a state government that bows down whenever liberal NYC needs something done. Selling NYC to Jersey would be the best thing that ever happened to ny state. as for NC Greensboro is switching to multicolor soon... NC is a better state than NY. not because of Emergency lighting but because they still belief in America you don't pass gun grab laws just because some mental health loon goes on a shooting rampage you can never protect people 100% against mental health loons and if you think you can legislate behavior then please tell me again how well the drug war is going..... lets see drugs have been illegal forever and yet every high school kid has them so yea thats working well.

As of 0000hrs 1/1/12, Dutchess 911 is now dispatching the agency as Care1 EMS, no longer Hudson Valley Paramedics. This will only affect 2nd calls in the district during contracted hours, as the dedicated unit is still called 56-79. After contract hours, Mobile Life Support has been chosen by PVFD as the ALS provider.

HVP/Care 1 is the ALS provider 5a-5p Mon through Friday as 56-79.
Any other time the ALS provider is Mobile Life Support Services with NDP the 2nd due ALS provider.

911 doesn't even bother with dispatching Empire/Regional/Hudson Valley Paramedics/Care One on the off hours because they know they dont post a truck in the valley during those times. I quote a manager from HVP "they get what they pay for". MLSS picks up all the slack nine times out of ten

So which is it the IAFF or the Department that wants it? They are not one and the same and often they are on opposite side of many issues. NYS has 100 depts that are career or combo and only about 6 provide ALS. I dont think you have studied this enough.
Who are you to determine what a community should think is valuable and is willing to pay for?
All of Florida "forces" everyone to be FL. firefighters to get hired or promoted, does that make for a down grade in firefighters?
So you've inteview all these ff's and determined this? I've been a paramedic and an instructor for over 25 years (firefighter & officer for similar), but my agency is BLS. I became a medic because I wanted to. My medic training makes me a better fire officer and my fire training makes me a better medic.
I know many depts that its highly competative to even get into medic programs.
I also know a number of non fire based medics, that are burned out, or want to be an RN, Cop, FF and the medic will be dropped when they get there. The medic is just to pay the bills for now (some are good and some are not....and many are forced by Mommy & Daddy because they need a job).
Then how can you make claims about the entire fire service? Since the majority of EMS in the US is fire based and has been that way for 40 or more years when is this padding going to have any effect?
Yes you are clearly a newbie and reading a bunch of articles maybe only has given you a small view of whats really out there.
So its better to provide it for profit like the big commercial services?
BTW, I'm not pissed off, Its common to see inexperienced people try to prove a point here.

Probably should have instituted that policy earlier
