If any agencies are experiencing issues with getting fuel for emergency vehicles they should contact their Regioanl Coordinator, or if they can't contact the Watch Center at 518-292-2200 - there is a fuel task force in place.
-
There are fueling stations just for emergency responders and utilities - this has been sent to the agencies operating down in/around the City. Biggest problem is getting tankers in fast enough to refuel the fueling stations!

Can anyone tell me if they know if Broad Channel VFD is one of those departments operating with the knowledge/approval of FDNY?

Good luck Marty!

The Yale 47 key is found all over - I think I have 3-4 of them myself for use at work......

To the best of my knowledge, Nat. Cert testing is offered (for those classes that qualify) at the FIre Academy at the end of classes - when I took my Instructor 2 class, all I did was pay the extra $25- for the National 'test'...which was the same as the final - so there was only 1 test taken. I was also able to apply for and take the Level 1 National test (it wasn't available when I took the original class)..... OFPC does have personnel who proctor some of the exams, and also have the test banks and equipment to score the tests - there are National Cert weekends held at the Fire Academy, along with other tests held around the state at different times. If you are looking to take a specific test, check with the OFPC main office to see if/when one is being held near you....

NYS does not have a State Fire Marshal - instead they have the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. Here is some background - and Article 6C of the Executive Law spells ~everything~ out..... In NY, the fire chief is charged with determining cause and origin of fires (I know it is in here somewhere, just can't find it at hte moment)......., and gml 91-a spells out responsibilities as far as authorization for investigation of burn injuries or wounds and to ascertain the cause of fires or explosions of suspicious origin.....pursue investigation.....etc etc.... ah ha - 204C provides for the plan for arson investigation - which is submitted by a County, and 204-d charges the fire chief to have the cause determined for fires.... Code enforcement varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction also - some places have dedicated officers, others contract, some placed the FD does it.....and OFPC also contracts with different state agencies to provide services. There are also requirements for when OFPC must be notified - FF death, student injury, over a certain dollar loss, and others......

I know this is late notice, but I just got the information myself - and I was asked to share......so, if anyone is in the neighborhood, or feels like coming up..... Dear Commissioner [insert Name], Please join Speaker Sheldon Silver and me for a special tribute to the heroes who worked or volunteered countless hours after the attacks of September 11, 2001. On May 31, 2012, we will host an event in honor of the World Trade Center rescue and recovery volunteers and workers. As you may recall, May 30, 2002, marked the end of the rescue and recovery operation at the former World Trade Center site. Thousands of New Yorkers worked or volunteered during the days and months leading up to that day, a decade has now passed and this will likely be the last formal ceremony marking the lengths that regular people will go when faced with extraordinary circumstances. Your agency played a significant role in the City and State of New York’s response to the World Trade Center disaster. Please feel free to share this letter with those members of your department who were involved with the 9/11 response. They are invited to attend the event at their own expense. At the same time, please prepare a brief biography of one or two of your members and include a photograph so that we can feature them on picture boards that will be set up in the Well. Please submit all materials by Friday, May 18, 2012, in order to allow sufficient time for preparation and display. Materials should be sent to my Albany office at 326 Legislative Office Building, Albany, New York 12248. This event, which will begin at 10:30 a.m., will be held in the Well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany. Speaker Silver and other dignitaries will serve as guest speakers. The events of 9/11 continue to inspire New Yorkers to perform even greater acts of heroism and civic duty; and, this is our chance to show how grateful and honored we continue to be of their service to the people of the City and State of New York. At the conclusion of the ceremony, your members are invited to go to the New York State Museum in the Plaza and view the exceptional memorial display of the 9/11 tragedy. On behalf of Speaker Sheldon Silver, thank you for your participation in this important event. If you have any questions, please contact my Chief of Staff, Ms. Maureen Allen, at (718) 457-0384, or by email at allenm@assembly.state.ny.us. You may also contact my Albany office manager, Ms. Joan Ragone at (518) 455-4545 or by email at ragonej@assembly.state.ny.us. Sincerely, Michael DenDekker Member of Assembly

So let me get this straight - the person is a member of a department, presumably in the town/village etc where they live...and leaves that department (A) to join department (.....do/did they meet the requirements for memebership in department B, such as residency requirement or working in the district.....now wants to leave department B and go back to department A..... If they left department A for whatever reason(s) and was a member in good standing at the time, AND while a member of department B was a member in good standing, I wouldn't hae an issue - as long as they meet the membership requirements.

http://www.wgme.com/news/top-stories/stories/wgme_vid_11036.shtml?wap=0&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter BREAKING NEWS: Body found in search for missing Florida firefighter Breaking news in the search for a Florida firefighter, who drove to Maine and then disappeared. State Police say a body has been discovered in woods off the Dahlia Farm Road in Newburg. The State Medical Examiner's Office has just arrived at the scene. Officials say the discovery came shortly after a search began this morning in the continuing investigation into the disappearance and homicide of Jerry Perdomo. An affidavit released in the case shows that Perdomo traveled to Maine to collect a debt, and his alleged killer threatened him with a machine gun. The prime suspect in Perdomo's death, 24-year-old Daniel Porter, is scheduled to make his first appearance before a judge on Thursday. Perdomo, who lived in Florida with his wife, Tonya, was reported missing February 16. A news conference is scheduled for this afternoon in the town of Monroe. We will continue to update the story as new information becomes available.

wow....having once lived in the South end of Yorktown - when I was a member there I think I was the ONLY member to live South of the resevoir.....and I moved away umm....quite a few years ago! My father used to live down there, and was a staunch opposer of building a new fire station - for many of the reasons already pointed out here- such as Millwood having a station right down the road - why NOT enter an automatic Mutual Aid agreement with them? Or Croton, or Ossining..... Another thing I find to be asinine is that some areas of the YFD are accessible ONLY by driving into Millwoods' district!..... And yes, when I lived in the 'South End' it was pretty darned hard for me to make a piece of apparatus at the main station, HOWEVER I don't recall having to wait any real length of time if there was a call down by me - apparatus was able to make it in good time - think about it - if the majority of hte membership lives and works near one of the other stations, WHY would they bypass that station and apparatus to drive down to the South end and grab a piece of apparatus from there? Especially if you don't know if someone else is ahead of you and might have it out the door a few minutes before you get there - now no one is responding apparatus from one of hte other stations because people went to the closest one to the call..... As for personnel to respond to this new station from the area - unless the population has increased DRAMATICALLY since I left - there aren't a whole lot of people to pull membership from - and having or not having a station down there had NOTHING to do with my joining the department when I did.

Although I don't see Aviation (currently) as having an FDID - the LODD from 1995 IS on the Fallen Firefighters' Memorial Wall in Albany.....
-
If the department has signed on with the County Mutual Aid agreement - they better send help if they can.....we had some career/paid departments come to help out..... And for Chris - you must have been there before the flooding - not sure if you heard, but the ICP at the fairgrounds had to BUG OUT (and I mean BUG!) on Wednesday - water was at least a foot deep inside the building you pictured.....
-
The video was taken from the Mohawk Service Area in the Thruway just to the East of Amsterdam....I'm pretty sure NWS confirmed a tornado - had damage to buildings, loss of power, Rt 5 had to be shut for a while.... The only GOOD news is that there were no reported injures as far as I know....
-
We are soooo glad we just had an automatic stand by generator installed at home - in fact, the week after we got it we lost power for an afternoon!..... Gas cans are full, need to top off the vehicles....thankfully we are far, far about any flood stages- and the sump pump is ready and waiting! Now just waiting to see if the overtime fairy will call.....

HEY! 'Steaky' out in the pasture might beg to differ.....better not let him see this post - come October he will be holstein-burger! Any word on the cause of the accident - awful loooong way to travel for 'just' losing control.....I was orig. thinking medical emerg on the part of hte driver, but seeing he walked away.....another reason besides a joy ride for the cow?
-
That is what I heard too - and that there was very little warning - maybe 5 minutes - of the approaching wind front.....with the wind gusts much higher than expected/forecast.....
-
I heard the other day there were 40 (yes - FORTY!) OT slots to fill on a shift recently.....usually it has been around 15-20 if I remember correctly....
-
I know the CPAT is currently scheduled for December 9, and the FF 1&2 Nat'l Cert testing for the 12th....
-
Thanks!... ack!.....would love to attend the bash...but a little out of my price range.....sigh.....

I think I'm partial to the last picture.......

Anyone know if there will be a bash for him?
