  1. It's not a roumor. We had to give up the carnival for this year due to the construction of the new Headquarters. The carnival should be back for 2007.

  7. Just a little information on the FOAM Engine. The current Designation is BOES-8. It is a 1966 Oren Pumper. It has a 1250GPM pump and a 250 Gallon tank. It was designed as a water supply engine and worked at many Structure Fires in Putnam County in it's day. The hose bed held approx 2000 feet of 5" hose. it was delivered with 1500 feet of 4" double jacket cotton hose with brass couplings . It had a specially designed mainifold on th eback that took in 4" and went to 4-2.5 outlets. It was nicknamed the "Super-Oren" after some Engine in NYC. The origial "Super" emblem was from a Ford pickup and is on th eengines palque on Mahopac Station 2. It orginally had a Wakashua (sp?) gas engine with a 5 speed manual transmission. It was converted in the mid 1970's to a Detroit 6V71 with a Allison Automatic. The Original County Designation was Engine 55. When Putnam County changed to the current numbering system it was designated 18-2-2. It was re-designated 18-2-1 in 1989 and served Engine Companies 1 and 2 until it was retired in 2001 when we donated the Engine to the County.
  8. In my opinion, no one should refuse a Mutual Aid assignment. The Fire Fighters of FDMV deserve the back up provoded by Mutual Aid. The Chief's and City/Town/Village/District Officials of the Departments providing Mutual Aid have to go to the Mount Vernon politicians to effect change. We should not say anything bad about FDMV because this is the cards they are dealt. I'm sure the Union is not burying thier heads in the sand and is addressing the issue with management (the City). If the City refuses to acknowledge the problem, then the citizens of the city have to change thier leadership.
  9. 37 = Town Fire Inspectors This was the answer to the trivia question i had on the thread about Putnam ALS Units
  10. Officially, it's not Golden Brown. It is 1947 Cadilac Lotus Cream

  12. We only use 35M1, 35M2, 35M3, & 35M4 for the CAD system. On the air they are referred to as Medic 1 or possibly Alamo Medic 1 or Putnam Medic 1. The 35 designation was given several years ago when there was both Alamo and Sloper. As EMS agencies were 31, 32, 33, & 34, Alamo became 35 and Sloper (R.I.P.) became 36. In answer to a previous post the Official designation should be 40-35M1 similar to the Official designation for 24-1-3 is 40-24-1-3 Off topic but an extra point Trivia question: In the Putnam County Radio Plan, who has the designation 37? Hint, It's not an EMS Agency.
  13. I couldn't agree more. I look forward to reading new topics and engaging in new debate. It seems everytime a new member joins we have to go through 2 pages of old threads because the new member has a comment on something we have put to rest. There are other forums where the most common emoticon is the dead horse.
  14. Brewster was special called to East Fishkil last Friday for thier High Lift Air Bags for a TT accident. Other then that They really dont go outside thier district.

  18. Going by who works with whom most oftenly,, Somers should be with Croton Falls, Goldens Bridge and the rest of that group. Banksville should be with the Armonk, Bedford group
  19. Brewster uses thier own UHF High Band. The repeated channel is 154.370 which is also Brooklyn Dispatch so you may get some bleed over when you are at a higher elevation
  20. When I am at work i like listening to feeds on the internet. I have just found a feed for Nassau County, www.w2lie.net, that streams Nassau Firecom as well as most of the other locallly dispatched departments. At home due to location I can ususally only get Putnam and Northern Westchester frequencies.
  21. He was looking for the Acme Company World Headquarters to complain about thier products
  22. Contact Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services. They often have an summer FF1 class where the instructor can put you through the mask confidance course.
  23. Subject: Good to know facts If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. (Hardly seems worth it.) If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. (Now that's more like it!) The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet. (O.M.G.!) A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes. (In my next life, I want to be a pig.) A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death. (Creepy.) (I'm still not over the pig.) Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour (Don't try this at home, maybe at work) The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off. ("Honey, I'm home. What the....?!") The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field. (30 minutes..lucky pig! Can you imagine?) The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds. (What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?) Some lions mate over 50 times a day. (I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity) Butterflies taste with their feet. (Something I always wanted to know.) The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. (Hmmmmmm......) Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people. (If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?) Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump. (Okay, so that would be a good thing) A cat's urine glows under a black light. (I wonder who was paid to figure that out.) An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain. (I know some people like that.) Starfish have no brains. (I know some people like that too.) Polar bears are left-handed. (If they switch, they'll live a lot longer) Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure. (What about that pig??) Where else should this information come from but the Internet
  24. See the "Want to know Everything" thread. He should have used a pig
