Unfortunatly there is no carnival again this year. The construction of the new headquarters in not completed and we do not have the space. The famous Sausage & Pepper Wedges will be sold at a modified version of the sasuage pit in front of the old firehouse. On a related note....anybody see 2 pallets of fireheated concrete block around?

Why is it being called TL-5? L-5 is available ("Reserved"). I think that would better describe the truck. Someone might ask for (and need) a Tower-Ladder and if someone dosent remember that the true TL-5 is OOS, could send this truck instead of what was needed.

I think that was a shot....................................

Hopefully there will be some movement in the fall session

Patterson also cancelled thier parade tonight. They did not reschedule it. As soon as the County made the announcement, the sun came out. I see Blue sky's above me now.

Tonight when I came on duty, I was told that CVFD retired 14-2-3 yesterday (07/16/2007). I don't know what it has been replaced with. anyone have any information?

Thats fine until they go on diversion at 0330. I try to tell a crew that would normaly use the facility on diversion when they respond. If I don't get it then, I will get them when they sign enroute to the hospital. Then they will go there anyway

My job also has a similar "rule" to a point. In this case however i would also not send EMS. They are in a medical facility. What gives a Medic or EMS crew the right to take someone from a hospital to another hospital. If the family wanted the person transported elsewhere, they should call a medical transport agency. On the same note, I have taken calls from people who have had a police agency at thier house handling a call and they were not satisfied whith how that particular agency was handling the call and wanted us to send another agency. I tell them if they don't like the way the officer is handling th ecall then they should talk to his/her supervisor. I do not send another police agency. If we had to follow the "get a call, send a car" rule by rote, they might as well replace us with computers. Dispatchers are trained to deal with the public and how to handle emergency calls. We have to have a little latitude in what we dispatch. Just because you think it is an emergency dosent make it an emergency.

I found a picture of Quad 2 in it's prime before it went Lime. I don't know who the original photographer is but I will credit him/her for the photo. [attachmentid=2883]

"It's the old thing, you have to buy the volunteers their toys," he said. "You don't. I have to bust my chops to save taxpayers $5,000 to $10,000. We could have $160,000, $170,000 in savings with this." Sounds like the Mayor might have some issues with the Fire Department to begin with

I believe Specialty Warning has a picture of it on thier site. It's a 2006 Econoline van

Looks Nice. Anyone know who the architect or builder were?

I also try to keep the dispatches as short as possible. In Putnam County we are the only dispatch agency so for a while i was eliminating the "Putnam 911 to" and just announcing the agency and the call. I was told by my supervisor that I had to add the "Putnam 911 to" back in to my transmissions so they knew who was dispatching them. It reminds me of when I started and we dispatched "40-Control to all XYZ home fire (or Ambulance) monitors". I also listen to other counties and areas on both the scanner and the internet. This area is one of the more verbose when it comes to dispatching. If you read www.NassauFDRant.com for example there is a thread on the long winded dispatches from 'upstate' NY. I agree that we should be short & to the point. Even APCO says to eliminate the unnessecary wording.

Bob should be here for the 0800-1600 on Friday 5/18. We want him back

We got a memo back when 40-Control was at PCSD that if the flight time was more then 15 minutes Stat Flight wanted to be launched rather then put on standby. I know I have a copy of it at home in my memo's file somewhere. I will have to look for it to see where it came from. If I remember correctly the LZ should be a minimum of 60X60 durring the day and 100X100 at night. No One Goes Into the LZ until the aircraft is on the ground and they are instructed to do so by the flight crew. There was a recent incident where the driver of the ambulance thought she was giving door to door service from the wreck to the medivac. Stage outside the LZ and wait for the Medivac crew to come to you or instruct you what to do.

There were more then two. In NY alone they were in Mahopac, Winnona Lake (Orange), Lynbrook (Nassau) , and Oxford (Chenango). Oxfords ladder is still in service. you can see it at www.CNYFiretrucks.com RWC130 Wrote: I think that Mahopac ladder was made custom and low so that it would fit in the Firehouse on Route 6. Oskosh developed the chassis for the low profile. For us it was perfect for our "Old" Headquarters. There was a steel beam at the rear of the bays it had to fit under. The same chassis was also used as a pumper chassis for units at the San Fransisco Airport. [attachmentid=2735]
