I would say either Orange or Sulivan

EJS1810 EJS are my initials, 1810 was given to me in between terms as a Chief by the Chief of the Brewster FD at the time (thanks TP) and now I use it like Westchester to identify some Ex-Chiefs.

I got my Daily Dispatch today and I could not believe two articles I read. The county government in Volusia County Fla and they Mayor of Edwardsville Ks refused to allow flags to be flown at half staff for Firefighter LODD's. They both quote the US Flag code that states only the President can order flags flown at half staff. Order to raise flags angers firefighters honoring comrade By LYDA LONGA Staff Writer Colleagues of fallen firefighter John "J.J." Curry were fuming Wednesday -- one day after his death in a training accident -- when they were ordered to raise American flags lowered to half-staff at Volusia County Fire Services stations in honor of the 30-year-old. http://www.news-journalonline.com/NewsJour...EAD02112907.htm Edwardsville Mayor Refuses To Lower Flags For Fallen Firefighter Wyandotte County firefighters were honoring their fallen brother on Wednesday night, but it's also sparking controversy. A long line of mourners formed outside St. Anthony's Church in Kansas City, Kansas for Mike Tluscik's visitation. Tluscik died on Thanksgiving, he had just returned from a call when he collapse at his KCK fire station. To honor their fallen brother, firefighters all across Wyandotte County have been flying flags at half-staff but one city's mayor is refusing to participate saying that it breaks the law. http://www.myfoxstl.com/myfox/pages/Home/D....1.1&sflg=1 I bleieve it is a matter of respect for our fallen brothers and sisters that we honor them with lowered flags. I feel this is something our elected officials need to address and correct as soon as possible.

Hydrants take all the fun out of firefighting.

So being a male, does this now make me an "Alpha-Male"?

My response area still does not have an adequate water system. We are taught from day 1 on how to draft and relay. I see more departments calling in Tankers right away. No one likes to lay (or pick up ) a lot of hose but it is something that we all need to do and practice. My company does at least 3-4 relay drills a year with the other companies in the department.

This sound like they do not want or need interopability. I thought the idea these days was for joint dispatch center. dosen't Orange county have a 911 Center for centralized dispatch?

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Thanksgiving from the B-line shift at Putnam 911 410-Edward J 424-Fred 426-Matt

Solution to the problem: State bid power supply

Thank you for the information.

Looking at the pictures on LFD171's site it appears that Ladder 25 and Ladder 26 are almost identical. Could someone from Rye comment on why they would get 2 of the same rigs instead of say 1 stick and 1 tower? Do they operate out of the same house? How are they handled with alarm assignments. Do they both run or do they alternate calls?

12-8-2 is a Polaris Ranger they bought for the bike path. 12-1-2 is a 2007 Tahoe assigned to the First Assistant Chief (12-1-2). They currently have 3 Chiefs and 3 Chief's Cars. when they got the new Tahoe they reassigned the oldest car (1997? Tahoe) as 12-8-1 (utility)

Santa made his "Grand Entrance" at the Danbury Fair Mall yesterday. On th eother hand the Christmas sales have started before "Black Friday". Gotta love my new 42" LCD TV with surround sound.

Gina, is L-43 actually gonna be there? Tofte & I really need to know

You do handle it well but you need to be compensated for it. In Putnam there are only 13 FDs and 4 VACS. We already dispatch them. As you add additional agencies you need to be compensated for the additional work. Wake up Westchester Legislators! These guys jobs are getting harder, compensate them!
-
Change is good. I only hope the 60-Control Dispatchers get compensated for the additional approx. 2000 calls they will do each year. As more departments go to a centralized dispatch, the dispatch agency has to grow to compensate. With this addition it seems they should have to put an additional dispatcher on each shift.

I believe while EMS or VEMS is the new acceptable term, I feel VAC or First Aid Squad still let the public know that help is on the way, Too often we continue to change the name of the organization for reasons that escape me. We go from Fire Department to Fire-Rescue Department because some people feel that more accuratly says what we do. Well we all know we do more then that but Fire-Rescue-EMS-Prevention-Inspection Department won't ft on the side of the trucks. My agency has Mahopac Vol. Fire Dept EMS on the ambulances. It accuratly tells who we are and what we do. We have for some reason lost the VOL. off our fire apparatus. (they left it off one, then lettered all other new ones to match). The Ambulances are the only ones that tell the whole picture. If my organization started as the 'Blahville' Volunteer First Aid Squad, I would want to keep that name for pride and heritage. Add EMS or VEMS near the star of life. After all, that replaced the red cross.

If they had an "Enhanced" or E-911 system, and they called from a landline, the Dispatcher should get the callers address and the information on the proper emergency responders. That should get them the correct department to diapatch. If the call was from a neighbor they could be dispatched IAO (in Area Of) 123 Main St. If the caller was calling from thier cell phone it depends if the 911 Center is Phase 2 compliant or not. Phase 1 gives you the address of the cell tower which could be miles away from the incident. At Putnam 911 we get many cell calls on the Mahopac Tower at 51 Crest Dr that are from Lewisboro in Westchester or ridgefield in CT. If the center is Phase 2, you can triangulate the GPS coordinates of the calling cell phone to get a better location.

I found this on firepics.net. I remember it but can't remember if it was designated an engine or Mini-Attack. i know DOC22 can help us out. I love that they kept the CFFD door mural. Credit to the original photographer, maybe "1949ALF"?

There was never a bell in the cupola. There were actually 2 cupolas. On the original 1948 building (left 4 bays in my avatar) it was centered on the building. When they put the 2 "large" bays on the right side in 1967 they added a second cupola for symertry. They were both decrotive only.

Our old HQ served us well since 1948. There were a lot of memories in that building. We look forward to creating many more memories in the new Headquarters. We had the oppertunity (sp) to do some training in the building last week. We had to remove 2 stoves and a cooler that we plan on using. Last Thursday we trained on breaching concrete walls with K-12's, our Packhammer and good old fashioned sweat (sledgehammers). it was an excellent training session. This past Saturday, Putnam County had a Truck Company Operations class there focusing on Search & Rescue. In would like to thank Seth for the photos of the building demolition. I was not able to be there this week and I wanted some final memories. Thanks to Seth, I now have them.
