Having read the proposal, I have to agree with some that it seems more like a takeover then a merger. I see nothing showing what DPS positions would be lost thru attrition after the merger because DES employees are doing the same function. Having worked in a police controlled dispatch center, I have to say that if the two communications centers were to merge into 1 and they become both fire and police then the fire side will suffer. The main concern of the police dispatcher are his/her officer in the street. You can't tell an officer requesting something to standby while you acknowledge a fire communication. That said, there are combined centers where it does work but they are combined but seperate. Glouchester County NJ is such a center. They have taken over all county agencies including local police(brought in gradually with local dispatchers being absorbed into the county system). However they are in two rooms, Fire & Police, so each dispatcher still only does 1 function. Back to Westchester, are DES and DPS employees in the same union? If not, how will this be resolved? Good Luck

Hamburg NY sounds like the old RD Murray/ALF facility to me

The fact that they have to place labels like this on the vehicles says it all.

10 man cab, Driver, Officer, 4 facing back, 4 facing forward. My engine is a "10" man cab. the 4 forward facing seats include 2 flip down "Jump" seats (Non SCBA) . We have 7 SCBA seats ( Officer, 4 rear facing, and 2 foward facing). Do we fill them all the time, no. sometimes yes. Do we have 7 SCBA on the fire scene for use, Yes. Sounds like the Crimson does not have the 2 flip down "Jump Seats". I do not agree with the Village (AHJ by the way) interfeing with what the FD wants/specs but in these economic times it all comes down to the bottom dollar. I would be more concerned if the Department wanted Stainless/Aluminum for longer life and the village bought Galveneel for the lower priice

If the Department gets the 2%, they can set the 2% Budget. Purcxhase of uniforrms is allowed with 2% money

Putnam, Westchester, Dutchess, Orange? How are you recogizing your Dispatchers?
-
To expound on this a bit, yes, Independent Fire Compaies/Departments can be a subject of a State Comptollers audit. (Example XYZ Fire Departmet Inc contracts with the Town od OZ to provideFire & EMS services in Town of OZ Fire Protection District 1). If the contract is over 200K, they can be audited. There are a couple of audits on the State Comptrollers website of indepentent (501.C.3) Departmetn audits

Other local Audits in the last week include The Croton Falls Fire District-Internal Controls over Financial Operations and The Fairview Fire district (Westchester)-Internal controls over Payroll. In the January Fire Trader I see in the Brindlee Mountain add what appears to be the "new" 52-31 2005 Mack Amthor tanker. I went to the NKFD website and in the 2009 annual report it says the tanker was sold. Can anyone give us some more information on why a 4 year old tanker was sold? Were there any problems with the truck? Did it not meet the needs of the district? Is it being replaced? Thanks for any information.

KATONAH — An overnight fire gutted the Deer Park Tavern. The blaze was reported about 3 a.m. in the two-story building at Routes 22 and 35. A sanitation man from a private carter passing by noticed the fire and flagged down a state trooper. http://www.lohud.com/article/20100126/NEWS02/1260365
