  1. Adam you are mostly correct, Regulation Uniform is with coat and no stripes (except rank stripes on the coats). Mahopac has what is concidered a "Dress" uniform because of the stripe on the pants legs. When there is not a Dress catogorey, we are concidered "non Regulation" and fall in with you guys.
  2. I would guess it grinds rails?
  3. I believe they are actually Batallion Coordinators. The Batallion is thier zone. I copied this from the DES website. The role of Fire Services is to support each of these departments with their fire training, education, fire safety and assist them with mutual aid at major alarm fires. Each fire department is unique in their structure and operation. Battalion 13 - [Deputy Fire Coordinator Gary Weber] Croton Falls - 207 Goldens Bridge - 214 Pound Ridge - 240 Somers - 244 South Salem - 245 Vista - 256
  4. I've seen some Battalion 16 T-Shirts out there
  5. The Kingsbury NY VFD covers a portion of I-87 (Northway). they have had 2 engines built by Gowans Knight that have front bumper mounted deck guns. They do an initial knockdown on car fires with the deck guns. Photos by www.gowansknight.com Pump Panel in cab

  10. I was sitting home after work and heard 60-Control dispatch "Mohegan VAC, 39 medic(?) and Rescue 32 on a call. What is Rescue 32? I looked on the Westchester apparatus listing on www.Westchestergov.com and Rescue 32 was blank. Was i hearing things? While I'm on Mohegan, today at work I heard 3 engines and a ladder get dispatched for a call. Has Mohegan changed thier assignments?
  11. I got this from the 60-Control page at the DES website: RESCUE COMPANY Valid Prefix (RES = Rescue Vehicle) A support vehicle, not designed for patient transport but contains tools for life support, extrication, emergency medical care Who assigns the designations? Is it up to the individual agency to call it what they want or does DES have to approve the type designation and then the agency uses their available numbers?

  17. Moriah chief nears 50 years of fire service By Fred Herbst - 2008-05-19 - fred@denpubs.com MORIAH — Ralph Jaquish is reputed to be the longest-serving fire chief in New York State. “That’s what I’ve been told, but I really don’t know that,” the Moriah Fire Department chief said. “It doesn't really matter. I’m just glad I can still be of some service.” Jaquish will mark 50 consecutive years as Moriah fire chief in 2009. http://www.denpubs.com/html/ny/newspaper.php?id=11739
  18. And in his department, he obviously has adapted to the changes in the fire service in the last 50 years. If you read the entire article you will see he also served on the Town Board and his Assistant Chief is his son, who is also the Assistant Director of Emergency Services for Essex County. Granted it is "upstate" New York but I imagine they do pretty much the same things we do here, train, respond to calls, train, respond to calls, check our vehicles, go to meetings, train, respond to calls .....etc I posted the link (that Igot from the Daily Dispatch) to highlight his accomplishment. Lets go witht hat and give him a few atta-boys.
  19. Some people take pride in thier equipment regardless if it is parade season or not. As a senior member said to me some 30 years ago: Dirty Equipment means you have no pride. On another note, in the oriional post nowhere does it mention apparatus. Maybe he was asking questions about his POV. Lots of SUV's Pickups have Diamond Plate running boards or tool boxes.
  20. As always, there is one in every crowd. I think he meant to post "What an accomplishment" Any people wonder why nothing is getting posted here anymore.
  21. Use a terry cloth towel to dry the water off the diamond plate after you wash it and you won't get water spots. Our guys have the same problem with the diamond plate on our new (2005) engine. They complain about "inferior" diamond plate. I checked with the engineers and they say it is still the same type of aluminum. All I can say is you can't make em like they used to.
  22. The last one GK built for them was on a Spartan. E-113
  23. And yet, we can't talk to units on route 9D by the Bear Mountain Bridge. Howie, the next time you hear us, answer us
  24. There are usually some guys in Mahopac's new quarters, Route 6 & Croton Falls Rd who can help you out. I'll be working, Ask for Tony!
