Mahopac will be having their elections on Friday December 5th. Not much change is expected. The Chiefs will remain the same and we will be electing some new Administrative & Company Officers. It's important to us but not worthy of an EMTBravo Alert.

From the Glens Falls Post-Star Fire chiefs show to move Use of Gaslight Village buildings listed as the main reason for change By ALYSON MARTIN amartin@poststar.com Thursday, October 23, 2008 1:51 AM EDT LAKE GEORGE - The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs convention will not be coming to Warren County next year. The annual Fire Industry, Rescue & EMS (FIRE) expo was held in Lake George for the past three summers. The latest on Lo-Hud MAHOPAC - Friends and family were pulling for a longtime Mahopac Falls volunteer fireman who was seriously injured Monday when he slipped and fell while setting up for a fire prevention program. Richard A. Johnson, 75, of Mahopac, remained in critical condition today at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was taken after the 10 a.m. accident. He suffered a severe head injury when he fell off a truck at the Pine Grove Nursery School on Baldwin Place Road in Mahopac. Everyone opinions are interesting but I don't feel this forum is the place to agree or disagree with a particular departments polices and procedures. As everyone knows, NYS is a "home rule" state where policy is made on the local level. If the leadership of Department "X" (kinda reminds me of Speed Racer, but I digress) set a policy, it is up the the member of "X" to follow it and not question it on a public forum.

I've blocked it out on my calander, now if I could write down why..................

I have seen this idea mentioned in various publications before. If I remember correctly, Domino's Pizza participates as a national program. "An estimated 890 lives could be saved each year if all homes had working smoke alarms. As part of the campaign, customers who order from participating Domino's Pizza stores during National Fire Prevention Week and throughout the entire month of October, may be surprised when their delivery arrives aboard a fire engine. If all the smoke alarms in the home are working, the pizza is free. If a smoke alarm is not working, the firefighters will replace the batteries and/or smoke alarm and leave the home with a fully functioning fire safety device. All deliveries made aboard a fire engine will come with a free sample of Domino's new Oven Baked Sandwiches, which launch nationally on Sept. 22, and fire safety tips, courtesy of NFPA. " http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/domi...D&dist=hppr Fire Prevention is more then going to the schools with an engine once a year.Congratualtions to KFD for thiking outside the box!

Chris's idea of a Tanker Task Force is an excellent idea. It should be explored in both Northern Westchester and in Putnam County who also has a lack of municipal water supply. Burlington County NJ Chiefs Association website has an excellent SOP on Tanker task forces. http://www.bcfirechiefs.org/Guidelines/tender_guideline.htm

Thats what I was talking about earlier. They left 1 Tanker in the North (Tanker 11-CV), South (Tanker 12-PH but I thought I heard them relocated), East (Tanker 10-Crtn), and West (Tanker 4-Vista). They didn't strp the whole county in case of another alarm.

Mahopac 18-2-1 (1977 Oren 1000 Gal. 1500GPM) 2 Chiefs (18-1-2 & 18-1-3) relocated to Somers (139 Primrose St). I was working Putnam 911 and listening to the fire on a scanner and www.Scan60.com feed 4. IMHO, it was a fantastic example of how a mutual aid fire should be run. No area was stripped. The "one over" principle was applied so all Tankers were not stripped form the northern Westchester area. Cudo's to the Dispatchers at 60-Control. I don't know how far your CAD goes on multiple alarms but if they exceeded it they did a great job of dispatching "on the fly".

If you are reffering to EC, yes he got hired. He will be working Medic 3 mostly from what I understand.
-
Medic 4 got an Escape, Medics 1 & 2 are getting Explorers from what I have been told by bureau staff

I just attended the Fire Academy this past weekend and took "Legal Issues for the Volunteer Fire Service". While this particular topic deals with a career department, I belive what I learned is true for both. NYS Corrections Law forbids discriminationin "hiring" based on a criminal conviction in the past unless "the crime is related to the job being perfomed". The way it was explained to us, a past burglary conviction could bar "employment" (again, it was geared toward volunteer agencies) as a firefighter. due to the nature of our job.

Mahopac (MVFD) already has a ladder.

The old 59-12 was purchased (or aquired, I'm not sure which) by the Dutchess County Exempt Firemans Association. They had it at several parades this past summer
