  1. Junebug have you talked with anybody at the Hose? I believe they have FDNY style shirts.
  2. A life member to us and known to us as "Uncle Walt". He was a devoted member to us and will be deeply missed. He was the former captain of fire police and held many company positions. RIP Uncle Walt. http://m.freemanonline.com/dailyfreeman/db_280234/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=iB82I192

  6. And by other departments I mean from other counties
  7. I went to the fire in Ellenville that occurred 2 weeks ago. My observation has nothing to do with the command structure that the Ellenville fire department has, but in my opinion it was a cluster. We here in Ulster have only 8 county frequencies with the larger departments having their own personal high-band frequencies. I responded with my departments tanker, a water ops channel was given to all inbound tankers. Upon entering the village, I attempted to call water ops command multiple times and got no response so it was find the nearest drop tank and dump. We were never given the location of the fill site. Had to ask a member from the Woodburne department if they knew the location, luckily they did. No staging area was given until mutual aid was requested from Orange and Dutchess. We also responded with manpower and our utility, those members found an area out of the way of the tankers and parked. Like I said, I am not bashing our fire coordinators office, the chief officers from Ellenville or the other departments who initially established command on the scene or our dispatch center. They all did a remarkable job, but our county is far behind the 8-ball. We don't have the ability to talk to other departments on our frequencies, which can put a huge hamper on firefighting abilities.
  8. Of they are disbanded then they need to quit. Of they want to be a legitimate volly department in the city then they should go through the right channels. Reapply for a charter, talk to the other active volly departments, find out what they do to comply with FDNY standards or make it a policy that they train or are required to do all or parts of the FDNY academy. And put in some strong regulations for AFD to follow. Just my two cents
  9. Just signed up also, my user name is conman1288
  10. I'm overweight and I know it. Before I went to college I was doing great. I was down to a healthy weight and I felt great. I was doing physical labor working as a groundsman for a tree company. But then I went away for school and I went above and beyond the freshman 15. Between August and my normal yearly physical in October, I gained anywhere near 60 lbs. I've been trying to cut back on what I eat to loose some weight. I know I am overweight but I surprised myself at how much I was able to accomplish at a structure fire last year. But not I've lost that cardio ability. I'm still 250 lbs and I have to catch my breathe walking up stairs or up a hill. But I'm starting to exercise. And I'm hoping to lose 20 lbs by next October but I would really Like to to be more. I don't want to be 23 and have it be determined that I have a heart condition.
  11. We will be doing a drill called Heavy Metal 2012 Hudson Valley. Its sponsored by T&R rescue solutions and Ulster Hose at the end of April. There will be multiple companies from across the county participating. Its essentially the same training. I'm registered in the class so I will try to get some pictures if I can
  12. My next phone is going to bean android. The main reason im doing this isthf casio commando is the only tough smartphone that Verizon makes. I'm a landscaper to I'm going to drop my phone a lot and I know it. I've thought about an iPhone in an otterbox but I've seen them break in them time and time again

  18. Um good job keeping an eye on everything cough cough. Nice to see they made use of the quint that was on scene. And did anyone happen to notice the chimney? So many issues here. They are very very lucky that no one got seriously hurt during this fire

  20. In my department, we are currently working on forming alarm assignments and a dual response system. We are already on a dual response with a neighboring a couple neighboring departments. One of these departments has at a max of 8 members, of which only one or two are interior certified so we basically do everything for them. But because we are in two different tax districts we can't consolidate and because of some stupid thing that happened years ago, the chief won't join with the bigger department in their town. We do offer a very rapid response to them as we are only at most 5 minutes from the far end of their district. But that off topic. We are beginning to run low on man power during the day with me away at school and everyone else working. We have a near by department that we occasionally bump heads with because of their tactics when they run mutual aid to us but we work past it to get the job done. For our medicals we run a dual response with a mobile life during the day.
  21. I know a department near me that has the older style chargers. They replaced their impala fleet with the chargers. They love the chargers but they are looking into the caprice and the interceptor. From what ive heard, the officers would like the AWD. But its still a while out before they start replacing the chargers. And it might be another expense when it breaks but i see it as being helpful for the more rural department and for the rural NYSP barracks.
  22. Yes the new interceptors are all wheel drive. IMO I think they would be more beneficial. But who knows maybe they already are testing these cars to make the determination
  23. Cornwall car 1 is the IC. Car 36-1 is a county coordinator
