you don't have to be 21 to have a CDL, You can get one at 18, but you are restricted in what you are able to do. I believe you cannot cross state lines, drive passenger vehicles, and haul double trailers. I know there are other restrictions which i am forgetting.

You are correct, the height for apparatus assigned to station 1 is limited by the door/ceiling of the firehouse. Engine 149 and the tanker, which are the tallest apparatus we have can both fit under the rail bridge.

I can't speak for SVFD, but in CFFD if you get into a car accident with you POV while responding to a call, your own insurance covers it.

according to the news, at least 4 are dead, 2 in Westfield, 1 in Springfield, and 1 in brimfield. there have been reports of looting, but no arrests have been made. Gov. Deval Patrick is having a press conference as I type this.

Hopefully another network will pick it up. Personally I could see Discovery taking it, as they already have a lot of crime related shows.

The hoods my fd gives us are from Fire-End, their nomex, and I would say they are reasonably thin. the hood I use is made by american fire apparel, is vented and is made out of pbi. its thicker than the nomex hoods, but it has a larger yoke, which I like because the yoke on the nomex hood would sometimes come out of my jacket. I also found a small burn hole in the nomex hood, which was my second reason for getting a new hood.

Anyone have one of those lights that mount in front of the shield on your helmet, that are a strip of LEDs? I see them a lot in advertisements online and in magazines. How do they compare to a more conventional light?

In my pockets Ive got a pair of channel locks, and vice grips. I have a door chalk in the band on my helmet. i also have a leatherman skeletool, that is clipped on to a key ring on the outside of my jacket, that has my knife, and a small and large size philips and standard screwdriver bits, not to mention the pliers with wire cutters. AND the clip on it doubles as a bottle opener. I have been meaning to add a standard screwdriver, for forcible entry, as the screwdriver on the leatherman isn't strong enough and doesn't really fit into a lock. Safety glasses and a better pair of wire cutters are on the wish list.

I have my light mounted in the rubber band that you can get from streamlight. Its pretty low profile, and I haven't had any issues with it hanging up on things. One thing I don't like about the survivors, is that if you don't have an elastic strap below the point where you clip it on it swings all over the place. Im not a huge fan of lights that you sling over your shoulder, I find that when walking around they are fine, but when crawling around or lifting things, they move around an bunch. Plus if the clips on the strap ends break, your pretty much sol, and stuck carrying it around.

I have a 4AA streamlight on my helmet, which I purchased. I like it a lot, wherever I look the beam goes. Its got a decent battery life and for its size it is quite bright. We also have the streamlight survivor series in our trucks. I dont usually grab one, but we have a few horse farms in our district, and at night having an extra light definitely helps, as they have a lot of large open spaces. As for anything that involves actual fire, I always grab another light.

Another thing to keep in mind is depending on the car, the battery may not be located under the hood. BMW places batteries in the trunks of some cars (I believe Mercedes does this as well) , I have also heard of batteries located under the back seats. I keep a pair of medium sized channel locks in my gear, and they work fairly well removing the connections.

The structure was wood, as well as the siding. Truss roof, with parapets. There was also some masonry out front, although I'm not sure if it is structural or cosmetic.

As someone who was there, I can tell you that the sprinkler system in the kitchen was working. There also really wasn't much fire damage in the kitchen. It seems like the fire originated somewhere behind the stoves, and progressed into the walls and to the cockloft. There was significant damage to the roof in the C/D corner, which given the two large duct fans right above the stove, presented a pretty good collapse hazard.

We have 2 Gladiators in Croton Falls. The bodies are Gowans Kinght, 149 is a 2000, and 148 is a 2005. both of these have four man cabs. So far the cabs and chassis have held up well, and there have been no major problems with the apparatus as a whole. I can try to get you some interior shots later if you'd like.

I have 5-0 radio pro on my touch, its got the Westchester frequencies, as well as ones from all over the country, you can multi task with it too. so far its worked out pretty well for me.

For seasons 1 and 2 they were using an E-One, they got the Pierce for season 3. I think in the pilot episode they had a different truck as well. the ladder in the photo here looks kinda like the one in the pilot.
