With regard to firstdue's post re: M/A, I wonder how some of these paid departments, like Pelham and Pelham Manor, can possible provide M/A when they are so poorly staffed to begin with. If they send a ladder or engine out of town do they have one of their own to replace it or do they then have to rely on M/A. No rub on the departments, most of the paid departments operate below NFPA staffing which again for the umteenth time you have to ask where does all the money go?

If Yorktown only need monitoring equipment, why didn't it just go up in a command car with one FF rather than taking an engine out of town? Anyone who listens to the scanner knows that pretty much anything above a dumpster or car fire in Hartsdale requires M/A, likewise Fairview and Greenville, so it really doesn't seem to make sense to send a front line first due apparatus 15 miles North. If ever consolidation was warranted its these three joining in with White Plains.

I don't doubt that this would probably benefit the firefighters, although without a side by side comparison of their respective contracts I could only speculate that this potential merger will bring about better pay, benefits and promotional opportunities. But, I have no doubt that the citizens would benefit from access to full resources of the LA Co FD.

Deja-Vu. Way back in late 70's I worked in Westwood, NJ. Stopped every morning at the same spot for the newspaper across the street from a furniture store. All quiet. Went up the block and stopped for gas. While I'm pumping the sirens go off and I look back down the street and the furniture store looks like this video. Fully engulfed, blowing out the windows in just a few minutes. All that lacquered furniture really burns hot. I never made it to the office, spent most of the day on a 2-1/2" line.

You can't judge a book by its cover. Went to very nice home, EMS call, well kept property, house looked fine, BMW in the driveway, lady owner was a buyer for a major department store, impeccably dressed, go inside, nightmare on Elm Street. Thank god it was an EMS call and not a fire.

I believe these trucks were identified in a much earlier post and reiterated in this thread by Morningjoe as the 'Governors' trucks, hence the red lights. They are for his use in extreme weather/road conditions and are dump trucks because they were bought by the DOT with surplus Homeland Security funds after the 2011 storms. Though the mud flaps say DOT, the door decal is definitely not DOT, more like NYS Homeland Security or something to that effect. Originally painted yellow, they were repainted black and there are four positioned around the State at garages operated by the Office of General Services for his use and were 'rebranded 'as 'rescue trucks'. Originally intended to be used in place of the Governors SUV which almost got washed away while inspecting upstate flood areas, these trucks were only two wheel drive and not high enough to traverse seriously deep water. I believe they have now added five surplus military trucks capable of dealing with high water and snow.

Here's the problem, first sorry for the unfortunate passing of the physician. How many FF are on a Scarsdale engine? Asking, I don't know the answer. And on their truck? So, Scarsdale is here, Eastchester, Hartsdale, Fairview, Greenville, White Plains and New Rochelle. With the exception of New Rochelle and White Plains, what happens in the rest of the Villages if another working fire comes in? Or just two AA's at the same time? Just asking......How much of this MA was needed because most, if not all, of the paid departments don't run with the proper compliment of FF. Does it take 2 additional mutual aid engines to get the same number of FF as two fully staffed engines. 2 Ladders to get the proper number of FF for 1?

Unfortunately, greed is timeless. This is not the first time the use of these types of facilities with inadequate protections and egress for a fast buck has resulted in tragedy and it won't be the last.

I have to disagree here and agree with antiquefirelt, Get inside with drychem to at least slow the advance. Been there done that, kept a room and contents in check with a 5lb dry chem until the first engine arrived. How about getting a rope line around the wire and pulling it off to a safe distance? Sometimes Monday morning analysis, in a nice way, can inspire some changes. And, back to some prior forum discussions, this I why I think local utility companies need to have a 24/7 rapid response truck, lights and sirens, to respond for cases just like this. These utility workers have specialized training, I don't think it would be a stretch to train them in emergency driving.

Date: 11.13.2016 Time: 2:00 PM to early evening, extended operation. Location: 4 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem District: Croton Falls Fire Battalion: Channel: Weather: Units: Croton Falls, multiple mutual aid Writer: Description: Structure Fire: Barn/Garage with extension to 2nd Barn Structure and several brush fires. I didn't catch the initial dispatch and couldn't continuously monitor, but from the outset it was determined to be an extended operation and I heard instructions to get lines set up to protect exposures. I believe Tankers came in from Goldens Bridge, Katonah, South Salem, Vista, Pound Ridge, Brewster, Mahopac and Mill Plain. I heard Ridgefield requested for station coverage and Somers for Re-hab. There was also a request for multiple brush trucks to the the scene. If anyone has more info, please share, I thought I would have seen a posting when I got back to monitoring, but did not and since so many depts were involved I wanted to at least acknowledge this incident.

Not cooler to me either, looks they're sitting on a Star Wars Stormtrooper's helmet.

First you have to get the apparatus to the scene quickly and efficiently. Position it properly, secure your water source, feed numerous lines at different pressures and volumes, proportion foam additives, continually monitor all those lines, communications, equipment leaving the truck, some with electrical or hydraulic lines connected to the truck, etc. etc. That 'glorified driver' is like a conductor for a Philharmonic Orchestra.
-
Some departments still refer to the driver as a chauffeur or an engineer though neither is driving a limo or a train. No need to be insulted, its just terminology. The people you want to know the difference, do.

Looks great, remember this truck from my earliest days. Love those B series Macks. I see it was changed to an automatic, was there a re-power?

Down here in the South, most of my neighbors not only have fire pits, they have burn piles for their yard debris. After Tropical Storm Hermine, clean up was easy as we just kept feeding his burn pile. Took a little getting used to when you see a column of smoke rising behind the neighbors house.

In Florida, all the Sheriff cars, for each County in the state are the same color scheme, only the County name is different. Personally I think it would be beneficial if all marked police vehicles were the same color scheme. And by that I mean all. Local, University, Board of Education, DEP, etc., etc. There are a lot more cars on the road than we sometimes realize and a uniform color scheme would show that and be a better deterrent to the criminal element.

Started already here in Savannah. Been raining steady for a couple of hours, won't get real nasty for us till morning. I'm high ground, more worried about the expected winds.

How many of the shareholders who profited from the three fold stock price increase were members of Congress, aware of the coming price increases and the Federal block grants to place these pens in thousands of locations. That's how they all get wealthy having gone into Congress 'not wealthy'. Insider trading on confidential information is NOT illegal for members of Congress. Just the rest of us.

As stated, the petition lacked the signers voting district thereby invalidating the petition. Also stated, the signers addresses were listed and could easily be added. So add the voting districts and re-submit the petition. It did not indicate that the signer needed to include the district at the time of signing so just do it now. That said, the three trustees seeking to invalidate the petition are true politicians subverting the will of the people.
