I think giving points/preference for those who vol SUCK. Study hard and do well it sounds like special points for those who can't cut the mustard. I am sick and tired of hearing how 'I volso give me the job' Becuase I want the best of the best anyone can vol if they give enoght time. Why should someone who takes a test and does well also have to compete against those who vol.

It is funny when you see an ambulance co show up time and time again and how professional they really are. Taking the time to do the many things that are mentioned in other posts. most of the time I think the ambulace does have a hard time getting close to the scene. So many have no other alternative except to load the stretcher and move towards the rehab center. Anyway Have you ever noticed that one idiot can screw all this up when at a fire scene I think that I am in good hands until one of the PARAMEDICS decides that instead of getting all of the necessary gear together he jumps out of the ambulance with the damn camera in hands taking photos. Anyone else experience this phenom from Empress that brings the rest of the Empress team down.

Does it really matter what grade you get. That little card wheater you get a 100% or 70% will say the same thing

Does MVFD keep the driver with the rig or could manpower be at issue.

I think the three new pupmers/sqd are SQD-311, 304, 303. THe new rescue will be like Chicago FD (Featured a few months back in Fire House or Fire Enginnering) L74 and L70 the new ladders. Yonkers has really mad an effort to keep their rigs uptodate in the last several years.

Exactly what everyone is saying communication. Everyone( dept members) must be on the same page when talking about nothing showing. If you are responding and someone says nothing showing is safe to assume from the outside. Sometimes yes if that is the meaning that is understood by everyone. Remembering that you can not be complacient such as the example given earlier by HFD with the basement fire. You can not just sit back and take your time getting to a call or go in and check it out w/o a pack.

Just passing through. I am on the YFD and my numbers were as follows when I took the exam several years ago. All testing the same execpt for the ladder treverse.(removed because it was too dangerous:) hose drag 18.49 Hose pull up tower 15.88 stairs 39.67 pulley lift 10.51 Hope this helps.

This is always a hot topic for us at the YFD. No one has ever been able to tells us exactly how it is graded. I wonder if anyone questioned state civil service and recieved any answeres.

You are only speaking for yourself. How many times do you see a senior person (not time on the job) who does not look physically fit at all.
