A "Suspected CO Leak" is not an IDLH an actual leak with concentrations of 1,500ppm (in the past and was updated to 1,200 ppm. It is rare that CO calls get levels that are that high, but they do get levels that can cause serious issues particularly to people with compromised health, young children and developing fetuses.
Utility companies regularly check CO levels without 2in or 2out or with SCBA available. While it is a good policy to do these things, a person who is well trained with a properly calibrated detector can do an investigation safely alone since they will get a warning long before there is an issue.

I guess maybe I'm just getting old and cold. You want to shoot up and OD, well that's the chance you take. It may be a cool new toy to play with, but its my ever increasing tax dollars at work. Save 'em so we can save 'em again next weekend. Eventually you just need to let Darwin do his work.

I LOVE fires.
BUT I ABSOLUTELY HATE TO SEE BARN FIRES! Farms, and barns are becoming few and far in between, and it is nearly impossible for the average farmer to recover and rebuild after a fire like this...this can end a farmer's life as he knows it..very, very, sad.

The judiciary just can't seem to stop meddling in the affairs of the emergency services. First Garaufis (sp) stymies recruitment for years and now Freed wants to control apparatus and maintenance. And beyond the FDNY you have Sheindlin curbing stop, frisk and question. There are an awful lot of judges out there, on every level, local to the supremes, who legislate from the bench. Its long been a disturbing trend that seems to occur more and more frequently. I must have missed the memo advising that attainment of the bench gives you the ability to know what's best for everyone else regardless of any factual information to the contrary.

Perhaps responders should be more concerned about driving and the use of lights sirens.

Body armor wouldn't have saved the last few EMTs/FFs that have been shot and killed in the line of duty. Also, not to say it can't happen here but it really puzzles me that so many more suburban/rural EMTs and EMS agencies advocate body armor vs EMTs who work in urban areas with higher crime. I understand sick crazy people live everywhere but it almost feels like these guys were law enforcement rejects and are using the misfortune of others as a means to get vests...
