How was the PD negligent?

In NYS a juvenile's records are in fact sealed. The only way that someone can get access to them is through a Court Order from a Judge and that many times is even difficault. You would not have access to that through a FD background check. However, I do know that certain Federal law enforcement agencies can get access through various means for certain applicants for certain federal jobs.

And yet another memorible Valentine's Day in New Rochelle....RIP P.O. McLeod...... In another, even more tragic event, on the morning of Valentines Day 1977, a disgruntled employee at the Neptune Movers on Weyman Avenue returned to work after a two week suspension and went on a shooting rampage. Within seconds he had killed four and wounded two fellow employees, Heavily armed, Frederick Cowan, then took up a position to await responding police units. Police Officer Allen McLeod was shot and killed as he exited his police vehicle in the company parking lot, and three officers were wounded as they attempted to assist him. A standoff that lasted into the late afternoon concluded when an assault team located Cowan's body in an office where he had apparently committed suicide.

Unfortunately our D.A. loves the chance to go after police officers any chance she gets. Everyone loves to say police officers SHOULD have shot to wound, or in this case shot out the tires. These same people forget that the bad guy is not shooting to wound a police officer or other person. P'ville get ready for the big march by Big Fat Al and his ramble rousers. To all the police officers involved, keep your heads high and know you did the right thing!!

How about the one's that are able body in order to get the funds they need to do something like clean the streets, work in a park, etc...

Legally they do not have the right of way, but it is more of "Do the Right Thing" As far as Cox/Graziano they use the Purple lightbar to let other drivers know and by no means is it to replace an escort. A lot of police agencies will assist with escorts if manpower permits and most departments with devoted traffic units will take care of escorts when called. I remember as a kid my parents (and others) pulling over and letting the procession go.

All officers do not automatically seek out the shooter. Departments with ESU type units on the road are the ones that usually enter a hot area, while patrol officers that initially responded establish a perimeter and assist as support units.

If you are talking of patient access how about a caged police car.

Hopefully the Federal lawsuit brought by "The Friends of Ernie Davis" will quickly be dismissed.. Interesting though that they are claiming the election should be tossed because of a racially motivated conspiracy..

I think a lot of these small towns should be merging departments to save taxpayer money, but it needs to go further than PD. FD, EMS & even gov't positions should also merge together and resources shared. Unfortunately egos will get in the way,

I was beginning to wondering how long Seth's thread was going to last before it was shut down....

What I was going to post in the original thread before it was pulled was that over the last 20 years as a police officer I have seen the relationship between police & fire on scenes working well together. Yes there are some old timers that are hard core on both sides, but those are few. Several years back, decisions were made about who would have the lead on certain calls & situations and they would be handled and it has worked. This would as certain conditions change bosses on both sides coming together and directing their own subordinates as they adapt to changing conditions thus achieving the common goal of safely getting the job done. By the way here is my hug...

Forget about after retirement, arbitrators are taking back health benefits now. Most of us did not take jobs in law enforcement or the fire service to have our pension pay for our health benefits. Also I have seen younger single members of unions vote to give back some of the health benefits to get a 1/2% extra on their raises since they are health & single. We need to get the word out & get Spitzer to sign this NOW!!This is one of the reasons why I hope to retire in 27 months because of the rumors about losing a portion of our health benefits in the next contract...

I better go run out and buy some milk, eggs, bread & water and just to be safe a shovel and some salt!!!!

FOX News Chicago Firefighter Dies in Crash With School Bus Friday , March 23, 2007 ADVERTISEMENTCHICAGO — A Chicago fire truck heading to a call collided with an empty school bus Friday morning, killing one firefighter and injuring three others. The bus driver had just finished dropping off the children for the day. Witnesses reported that the fire truck's lights and siren were on but that the bus driver couldn't stop in time. The impact knocked the truck on its side, police spokeswoman Laura Kubiak said. Firefighter William Grant, a 44-year-old father of three, was killed, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado. Fire Commissioner Raymond Orozco said Grant's death was "a loss to all of us." The conditions of the injured firefighters and the bus driver were not immediately released. The bus was operated by a contractor, Chicago Public Schools spokesman Mike Vaughn said.
