  1. We are running 9 front line ALF Engines, 4 ALF - Reserve Engines and 2 ALF TL front line and 2 ALF reserve TL as well as a front line ALF rescue and a ALF spare - while someone already said it no rig is perfect and they all have their inherent hitches - but with an aggressive preventive maintenance program (kudos to our shop personnel) we have experienced few if any front line breakdowns of the ALF's - our shop stocks hard to get parts. a Preventive maintenance program is key to keeping any truck in the tip top performance range.
  2. They were in the White Plains Paddy's day parade in uniform and a rig
  3. Sounds like another case of "The Emperor has no clothes" no one wants to see them for what they really are. Who heads up that group "Boss Tweed" and is their firehouse next to Tammany Hall?
  4. YFD Tower ladders have a hydraulic tool outlet in the front bumper w a dump valve
  5. What are They? How does one request them? What is the response time? and who responds with them? ??????????????????
  6. Here is the original question What are they? How does one request them? What is the response time? Who responds with them? ??????????????????
  7. The NYC Urban Area Work Group (which includes NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Yonkers, PA of NY & NJ) about two years ago had all members agree to purchase a medical evacuation vehicle - (similar to a plan in Northern NJ) - the idea was to buy identical vehicles which would be operated locally but be available regionally - each partner agreeing to buy at least one & NYC buying a few. The spec has not gone out to bid yet but should soon. I don't see the vehicles being delivered for some time yet.
  8. how dare you question the fact that "the emperor has no clothes" you should be admonished for asking such an honest question - what are those trailers for? How dare You! - I asked the same question several months ago and was meet with silence! "I am mad as hell and not going to take it any more!" (I think that was a movie quote) - lol - I don't want to hijack the thread - Great job NRFD
  9. Once we put our helicopter in service (with our paramedic pilot) that will cut Chris's runs by more than half -
  10. In the past we have put into srvice 1-3 EMS (BLS first responder) flycars to keep the engine companies available. While EMS is a majority of our work % wise our primary mission is Firefighting and need to keep the Engines available when response times may be hindered by weather or other situations. The EMS flycars are equipped with EMS equipment same as any Engine company
  11. 0800 Extra units for storm emergency E-317 = Station 1 Squad 21 = Station 11 L-78 = Station 8 EMS -1 = Citywide EMS unit
  12. To expand on Batt2 response 300(LDH), 315, 316 & L-76, 79 & TL-80 are spares and not equipped for immediate service - L-77 is not a number currently in use. The reserves are 317, 318, 319(LDH), L-78 & TL-81 and Squad 21 and Rescue 2 equipped and ready to roll!

  15. actually the shop did not leave station 7 until the early 80's and the new SOC (not SOD) location is 100 times better than RH
  16. I believe Piermont had a couple of compacs - don't know if they were 2 or 4 door?
  17. it is a generic headset on the David clark - the open ear for ambient noise can be flipped to the outside ear for the officer -
  18. 1800 Tuesday the 2oth to be exact
  19. Next year YFD will bring the HazMat Task Force!
  20. Here we go ! The brothers from WCDES team - I think I saw 1 person - to mention the 2 teams in the same sentence is an absolute insult! Once again the emperor has no clothes! When are all of you going to get it! Showing up with 1 or 2 trucks and proclaiming you have a team is ludacrous! Yonkers used the event as a Deployment Exercise for the USAR Task Force and participated with over 35 members an appropriate response for a level I USAR task Force. - As long as everyone feels warm and fuzzy whether or not the resources are real that is all that matters. BTW - who cares what color lights they use - that has nothing to do with their capabilites.
  21. The bumper is NOT the delay!
  22. Officer and 3 FF's = same as all YFD Units
  23. Because of the special equipment the Squad carries - LDH, extrication, tech rescue, hazmat etc. a normal spare Engine does not have the capability of carrying the equipment necessary for the Squad to perform its functions, - some of our other units also have dedicated spares (LDH, TL, Ladders w/ extrication equipment) The spare squad can also serve as a spare for the Rescue. Our goal is 8-10 years frontline and 10-15 years spare reserve. The days of getting 20 years out of a rig are gone. We will still get the bang for our buck out of that 06 ALF. We also utilize Spare/reserve for special events, recalls and mutual aid. A fully stocked spare is not a luxury - it is a necessity to have fully equipped spares = it cuts down on time to switch over for repairs & PM's - from hours to minutes. as well as having the rigs available for other assignments - Mutual aid, special events and major incidents - I could not agree more in a village that does a couple of hundred runs a year that would be luxury.
