Can't feel too bad for ya if you were lying about your address.................I was an NYPD Cop and had been living in The Bronx for over 2 years when my list number came up for FDNY...........My background investigator for the fire department broke my friggin' balls and told me that she was taking my residency points away because I was born and raised in NJ. After getting into a yelling match with her (not the smartest thing to do when your trying to get on the job), and telling her that she was DISCRIMINATING AGAINST ME for being born and raised in another state, she ABRUPTLY changed her tune. A week later I got my letter that I had gotten on the job and 3 weeks later I was sworn in............I guess she figured this white kid who grew up in Jersey was lying about his residency.........Silly her! PS: To any FDNY Candidates looking to come on the job...........this investigators name was Marilynn Woodward..........be forewarned!!!!!

He grew up in Chicago and was a young buff and journalist who was riding with one of the CFD Squads on the day of the Our Lady of the Angels School fire in Dec. '58 that killed 92 school kids. Thanks for all you did for the fire service! Rest in Peace Hal!

I attended UNH from Aug. 1996 till May 1999..........When I first went up there in '96, the old fireboat was still docked down at Long Wharf. She was gone within a few months. Also, when I left UNH in May '99, NHFD was still using the old "Emergency Units", and there was no Squad Companies just yet.

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! I work with guys who live over an hour away from my firehouse in The Bronx, and their still paying over $12,000 in taxes..............Getting real tired of these outrageous taxes in NY..............If I didn't have 12 years already into my city pension, I think I might have come down and took that test.

I had your same passion years ago. I went to the Univ. of New Haven in West Haven, CT and studied Arson Investigation. What I SHOUD HAVE DONE was learn a trade (Carpentry, plumbing, electrician, etc), would have been MUCH MORE useful to me! Been a NYC Fireman now for over 10 years, and that degree doesn't put any extra money in my pocket.........Not saying at all that you shouldn't go to college, because you should, but I might want to rethink the Fire Science major...........

From what I understand, it was an Auxiliary ESU Unit................. Aux. doesn't have an ESU anymore.........as far as I know.

Old Civil Defense Rescue............Hope it didn't wind up in the scrap yard..........

So do I.........I caught the very tail end of it when I got on the NYPD in 2000. I was assigned to the 4-8 and the only blue and white RMP left was one of the old Chevy Caprice's that we used as the "training car"...........that car was at the end of it's life and on it's last leg...........but had a blast driving it!

Before John got promoted, he worked in my Battalion.................Great guy, a terrible loss! He was also the boss on 24 engine on the day of the Deutsche Bank building fire...............God rest his soul! Rest in Peace Brother!

Housewatch is the small office located at the front of the firehouse on the first floor, usually to the right or left of the apparatus floor, or sometimes right in between the two doors. It is where the calls come into on the computers, and are acknowledged. It is to be staffed 24/7 when companies are in quarters, and each fireman takes a 3 hour watch. The Housewatchman turns out the companies when a run comes in, records all the runs in the company journal, answers the department phone, and answers the front door. He's also supposed to record in the journal any visitor who comes into the firehouse. In Boston, the Housewatch is called the "Patrol" or "Patrol Desk".

May 15th, 1974 was when 58 Truck and the 1-8 Batt. moved into their current quarters.

The only silver lining in this is hopefully the P.O.S. gets prison raped!

I don't know how that's legal................ if the city allows you to live outside Mt. Vernon after you're appointed, then it should be a moot point! I feel bad for all the potential Lt.'s and Capt.s who are now going to have to sue just to take the test............. PURE B.S.!!!!!:angry:

I'm not trying to start any problems here...............but if we're gonna start talking FACTS and DATES, then let's get a couple of things clear................FDNY had ALWAYS been doing rescue work, but never had a DEDICATED unit to respond to these types of jobs prior to the formation of the first Rescue company..............FDNY Rescue Company #1 was organized on January 18, 1915, and was placed in service OFFICIALLY on March 6th, 1915.............over 15 years prior to the formation of ANY of NYPD's ESU units....... And there's no jealousy or hatred here, as I started my career on the NYPD (4-8 Pct).........

Looks like the last straw was the guy from my company getting burned at the 3rd alarm we had on Jan. 25th. And it's so convenient that the company just so happened to go out of business when all this came out..........................
