I'm pretty sure that the PCFD FAST is out of service at this moment. I am well aware they have certified members and have responded in the past, but i believe they have been taken temporarily OOS. With West Harrison having the only FAST in the sound shore they have a solid response area to cover, and more power to them. Every wednesday night they have FAST training and are very dedicated. I know they are the first FAST on our working fire assignment. Purchase has a mutual aid plan in affect for up to a 3rd alarm. The plan utilizes most of the sound shore departments by the 3rd alarm for an engine, ladder, FAST, or cascade.

I was down at Station 18 the other day picking up my partner and they have pretty much the whole parking lot fenced off and have broken ground. EMS had a nice parking situation going before the construction, now they are all on the street. I wonder what the parking is going to be like once it is built. But hey... One mans condemned firehouse is another man brand new EMS station... ie my station 19 (E75/L33) JBJ

The New York State law has been in place for a few years now, but it was never enforced by SUNY Purchase. SUNY PD would investigate all alarms (local and general) and if the FD was needed they were requested. Prior to October of '06, SUNY PD would respond to over 500 local alarms a year (single head activations). The problem with these local alarms is that they were set up as general (full evacuation and sounding throughout building). Once NYS OFPC got around to checking the amount of general alarms at SUNY compared to the number of FD responses, they recieved a stiff fine for each violation. Since then such names as Alumni Village, The Commons, Visual Arts, Childrens Center, Campus Center North, Campus Center South, PAC, Dining Hall, Fort Awesome, Outback, Far Side, Big Haus, Crossroads, Natural Science, and The Library have all been heard for commercial alarms. Very slowly the college is changing the alarm systems to the proper two head activation from the single head general alarms. The sensitivity of the heads are also something in question. Steam, cigarettes, weed, candles, burnt food and others have been able to activate the heads where other systems wouldnt even detect such nonsense. Something else to throw on the fire is the lack of heat detectors in the buildings. Smoke heads on top of stoves where heat detectors are well within the code. The entire system was never given much attention because the PD would investigate and it never effected the local FD. Currently system and heads are being addressed but as of today we have run 310 times in 2007. Aside from the confined space rescue, MVA, and two very minor strucure fires all of them are false alarms. Thats everything in a nutshell... any questions??? JBJ 2415

When i went to the trunk radio orienation meeting that the county scheduled for department prior to the system being online the same question was asked. A chief wanted to know if and when his department would be able to purchase additional portable trunk radios for his line officers. I remember the answer to that question being that at some point in the future departments would be able to purchase additional radios. At the time the county was more concerned with getting the system up and running before programming additional ID numbers. I dont know if anything has changed since then or where they stand... but thats what i can recall on the topic... PS- My department had been on the system for over a month now and we had no problems with the system. We have not found any dead spots in the district (yet) and the reception is always clean. Plus radio traffic is a thing of the past with having Fire 19 all to ourselves. JBJ Go Cowboys

I started a topic simliar to this one last year... http://emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=9891&hl=JOLT I agree that you do not get a chance to see other department operate at extrications (unless you are 2163 ) so something like this would be a good opportunity.

This is another rig that I had a chance to check out on my trip to Seagrave in April. It was close to completion when I saw it, and one thing I like about it is the diamond plate steps in the rear that take you to the top to access the massive "coffin compartments." I'm a big Seagrave and heavy rescue fan so I'll let it slide for not being red.

I got a chance to take look at the cab and chassis when i went to Seagrave last month. Due to company policy i wasnt able to take any pictures of it, only Rye has the ability to. I had a blast there... seeing the rigs built from beginning to end was very interesting. Can't wait to see it at "THE GAME" this year for its first loss...

SUNY Purchase and PEPSICO currently have STORZ connections on the steamers. Westchester County Airport is currently in the process of changing over to STORZ. Currently three different connections exist on the property due to the districts that are in it (Purchase, Armonk, Port Chester/Rye Brook).
