  1. Mainly because of football... climbing through a window for a stand by is a distant second. 2002: 35-15 Harrison AND 28-7 Harrison JBJ #52
  2. I am about to implement our personal safety systems in my department. I have been collecting materials related to this issue from all different sources, but the one document I cannot get my hands on is the audio from the "Black Sunday" Bronx fire on January 23rd, 2005. I already found the NIOSH report on it, but I feel that listening to the incident unfold will really hit them hard. If anyone has a copy they could email me or point me in the right direction that would be great. JBJ EMAIL: cowboyz84@aol.com
  3. From an educational standpoint I feel that listening to the audio of the incident will give members a real time view of how events unfolded. Using the NIOSH report as a case study does not give you a full understanding of how fast everything happened that day. Even though I do not NEED the audio to drive it home, I feel it will only emphasize the point I'm trying to make. JBJ
  4. I got to see Engine 88 the other night at the Sedgwick 2nd alarm. It’s interesting to see some of the new features on the engines. Two intakes on the front, dual intake on the officer side, raised roof, split-tilt cab, opening seating with a new seating arrangement, 2000 GPM pump, two additional suction hoses... just off the top of my head. The Seagrave website has all the new deliveries on there. Two in my area I are noticed 63 and 43 Engine are complete. The city will receive 69 new engines over the next 3 or 4 years.
  5. The 9:00 am call this morning was to a motor vehicle accident in the rear of 4 Gannett Drive. The standard response for MVAs in Purchase are Rescue 30 and Engine 240. If additional resources are required the third due piece would be Engine 238. The ambulance is provided by Harrison EMS. We are dispatched by 60 Control while EMS is dispatched by Harrison PD. Depending on who receives the call... 60 Control or Harrison PD... will decide which resources are dispatched. JBJ
  6. We have the Harrison Central School District. This consists of four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. This joins the communities of Downtown, West Harrison, and Purchase. I am not sure when the district was established, but prior to the CSD, residents had a choice of which high school to enroll in. ETC... my mother went to Harrison, aunt went to Rye, and my uncle went to White Plains... (some Brefere family history ) one government one police department one medical service one public works one school system THREE fire departments... hmmm JBJ
  7. hey go blue.. I hear you are coming by stat flight... Can you confirm?? Yyouu are mmyy friend...
  8. Sorry for the slow response 585... im just getting around to uploaded the pictures off the camera. I have three pictures of the cribbing on Rescue 30. Most of the cribbing is in the driver side rear wheel well compartment. All of the 6x6, 4x4, 2x4, and step chocks are in there. The 8x8s are located in the belly compartments. Off the top of my head I would say we have: 8- 8x8 36- 6x6 28- 4x4 28- 2x4 8- step chocks All the 6x6s are behind the chocks, and the 4x4s and 2x4s are double stacked. I'm still working on a way to secure them better. I was thinking of having some type of net to hold them in place while moving. Special thanks to x655 for making these compartments possible...
  9. I'm sure the City of Stamford is happy to have their dispatcher back... But im sure their was none of that going on while you were on the clock...
  10. Purchase is a Hamlet in the Town/Village of Harrison... Harrison became a town/village so Purchase would not be able to secede back in the day. One police department, one medical service, three fire departments... sounds about right...
  11. In the beginning of the year Rescue 30 had all of its cribbing replaced with wood and most of the composite went to Engine 240. The step chocks work great, and we have not had a problem with using it as box cribbing. The rescue is now equipped with a various amount of step chocks, 8x8, 6x6, 4x4, 2x4, and wedges. Along with the Res-Q-Jack struts we have had a great amount of success with stabilizing vehicles. The 8x8 and 6x6 have ropes going through them, while the 4x4, 2x4, chocks, and wedges have webbing attached. x129K hit all my points with wood over plastic.

  16. One of my members is a live-in at Station 34 (Chillum-Adelphi), I know they run with Hyattsville all the time I wonder where they came in on this box. Hyattsville runs with a engine, ladder, squad (heavy rescue), and BLS ambulance which is not that common down in PG from what I understand.

  19. The 20" water main cracked just south of Route 120 on Purchase Street. The WC Airport and Purchase only had major water loss for less than an hour, while West Harrison is still experiencing almost total water loss. The only water available are the water towers at the Nike Base and the "top of the hill" in West Harrison. JBJ
  20. i believe what he is referring to is how in the older buses you have two switches for the lights, some old timers just throw on the box lights for job and go with traffic.. i dont get it, but they cant do it in the new buses because its only one switch now. i cant believe some of our buses are still in service... those '97s are the worst...
  21. I saw a new Haz-Tac bus last night at Jacobi (03Rescue). From what I was told by the conditions boss, all 5 rescue medic buses have been replaced already. Followed by all the ALS and BLS Haz-tac units. Sharp looking rig...
  22. I agree with this statement 100%. I think their is a time and place for everything. I believe Lake George is a great place to hold the convention. It is unfortunate that the village does not build a convention center for any type of event. As long as the hands on training, seminars, and convention gets done... go out on the lake and have a good, enjoy a nice dinner, and have a few laughs. I also believe that it was a little slow this year and know they can do better with the vendors and apparatus. I didnt take any hands on training this year but from talking to people who did, I plan on attending next year. I had a great time up there, saw some things that our department is going to look into, and cannot wait for it next year. 2414
  23. I was curious about this too. I dont hear the units very well on this side of the county, so i wasnt sure how many rigs they send to different types of alarms. What do local alarms get? and what types are considered general? JBJ
