Having Field Comm and the County Helicopter on the same scene would make an air recon operation possible. Is that correct Chris?

For the January 2007 fire test EMTs from my academy were eligible to take the promotional test instead of the open competitive. I know many of them who were hired from that promotional list. Their ODA was 10/16/06, and it was my understanding that your name was processed whether you were an employee or not. Maybe the policy is different now, who knows... JBJ

I was able to apply for civil service status and the job at the same time. You do not need to be an employee to apply for it, only to receive it. EMTs in my academy were civil service their first day on the street. JBJ

I have noticed that almost all new chief vehicle are equipped with cabinets in the rear compartment. Who are the manufacturers of these custom cabinets? What is the range in price? Also, a lot of the vehicles are equipped with radios attached to these cabinets. Seems like these cabinets are the way to go. Any positive or negative feedback on these cabinets?? JBJ

That is correct... An 8' plow also came with the vehicle for removing snow from the apparatus ramp and back parking lot. JBJ

Here it is... This vehicle is designed to respond to service calls (i.e. water conditions and wires down) and for transporting additional personnel to scenes. Having the pump out equipment on the Utility has opened up a lot of space on Rescue 30. This will give us the opportunity to reorganize some compartments and add equipment as well. The bed was fitted with a full size pullout tray. On the tray is 3" trash pump, sump pump, 2 x 10' suction hoses, gas powered generator, and the Con Ed command board. The cap on top of the bed also has side compartments for additional storage space. These compartments hold the discharge hoses for the pumps, pop-up traffic cones, water, hand lights, and traffic vests. I think the vehicle came out great and I'm very satisfied with work done by TCD. JBJ

Today marks the 30th Anniversary of the Stouffer's Inn Fire in Purchase, NY. A tragic day where 26 people lost their lives and dozens more were injured. It was a suspicious fire in which nobody was ever brought to justice. I have grown up hearing stories from our life members who were at this deadly fire. The details of the blaze are still fresh in their minds to this day. Better known today as the Renaissance Hotel, you would never know it was the site where 26 men and woman died while attending business conferences. I thought I would share a recent article on Lohud.com about one mans recollection of the event. Thirty years after Stouffer's: Was justice served? JBJ

This vehicle is assigned to Station 19 on 183/Jerome Ave. We received it about a month ago and is the only one in service within the division right now. I've heard mixed reviews from the bosses about it so far. JBJ 19B1

Thanks for the info buddy.. I was wondering how many of these departments that have switched over to the Trunked System full time have made modifications to their pagers/portable radios to be able to monitor these frequencies? I have heard of some departments using low/high/UHF frequencies converted from the trunked system to be able to "listen like they used to on 46.26." I do not understand how it works or if it is practical. Listen only, no transmitting... Any thoughts?

Pocono Township Fire Company ordered a rearmount platform a few years ago. After asking my local Seagrave Rep about it he explained that the chassis and body were Seagrave and the aerial was from another manufacturer. http://seagrave.com/index.cfm?display=prod_recentDeliveries_detail&id=329&maxShow=15contentid=46§ionID=3&chassis My department operates a 2000 Seagrave Apollo 105' Rearmount Platform. When we visited the factory in 2007 we heard an Apollo II was a possibility. JBJ

The big difference from present and former FDNY ambulances, will be the use of a four door cab instead of the up till now standard two door cab. The new units will all be designated as regular ambulances, with none slated to be fitted out as Haz-Tac ambulances, or Haz-Tac Rescue ambulances. Why would anyone need to have a four door cab on an ambulance? Please tell me I read that wrong.
