  2. I understand all sides in this. I personally am on the fence about it. I do not think it is something that should be left in public eye and advertised but with that said, the Chief using Facebook is probably harmless. The same can be said for departments that issue smartphones...a Chief can access Facebook on that. I don't think it is a huge issue, but it is best to close the computer or at minimum minimize the window. Like NY10570 said, I would not use the computers for personal things since I would not want the department following my every step.

  4. I mean how much would the percentage rise...meaning 60% to 70%? 80%? Percentage rising means less fires.
  5. What would be the penalty if she purchased the gun to kill him? Why would the penalty be if she snapped and killed him?
  6. Either way, not justified. The reason behind the murder is not important. Does a kid dealing drugs out of a house justify murder? No....
  7. I am happy that you pointed this out. It is nice to see that the agencies staffing changes are paying off and helping the community and its visitors.

  13. Date: 5-25-2012 Time: 00:10 Location: 16 North Main Street (St. Regis Falls) Frequency: Franklin County Dispatch Units Operating: Multiple FD's from Franklin and St. Lawrence counties Weather Conditions: Heavy wind Description Of Incident: St Regis Falls FD received a call shortly after midnight for a structure fire at the above address which is a OMD. A St. Regis Falls FD Chief arrived on scene and was alerted by a resident that someone was trapped inside. The Chief grabbed a ladder from the property and used it to rescue the trapped resident. Mutual aid was requested from 23 Franklin county and St. Lawrence county departments. Departments from Tupper Lake to Malone were on scene. Tankers were used to draft 2 million gallons of water. Malone, Saranac Lake and Brasher-Winthrop fire departments sent aerial trucks to the scene. A State of emergency was declared due to the fires central location and proximity to adjacent structures including a NYSP headquarter and a Post Office. Firefighters took a defensive approach to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the block and surrounding buildings. The fire is not thought to be suspicious but is under investigation by the OFPC, Franklin County OEM and the Franklin County C&O Team.
  14. http://northcountrynow.com/news/state-reports-60-percent-decline-wildfires-brush-burning-ban-started-2010-058247 I wonder how much the percentage would rise if farmers were not allowed to burn brush for farming needs.
  15. Clifton-Fine also held a mock DWI drill... http://northcountrynow.com/news/clifton-fine-mock-dwi-teaches-teens-dangers-driving-under-influence-057776
  16. Potsdam Fire Department and Potsdam Rescue Squad held a mock DWI drill at the Potsdam Central School campus for students to watch. Story and pictures found on Potsdamfire.org. I think that these are a great tool and send a powerful message to kids, more of these should be conducted at local school. Even if they stop one person from driving while intoxicated, it is a big success.
  17. The Post Office in Pleasantville has a flag drop box out front.
  18. No one said the tip up light is going to save money... What was said is that the warning light on the center console that lets the operator know that the tip up light is erect will. If the light serves its purpose then no one will drive under the sunnyside ave bridge with the tip up lights up.
  19. Date: 5/27/2012 Time: 17:10 Location: Hudson River Frequency: 46.26; WCPD Units Operating: [WCPD: Marine 3]; [Tarrytown FD: Marine 5]; [Croton FD: Marine 12]; [irvington FD: Marine 4]; USCG Weather Conditions: Warm, humid Description Of Incident: Vessel on fire in water. 17:10 - Units dispatched for vessel fire on Hudson River 17:19 - WCPD Marine 3 advising that they have the fire knocked down, units can respond in with caution. 17:21 - WCPD Marine 3 advising that the fire vessel is taking on water, dewatering in progress. 17:25 - Marine 5 advising that Marine 3 is towing the boat to Tarrytown, they are following in case Marine 3's pumps fail.
  20. The tip up light bars are fairly new and still quite uncommon in this area. Actually, I would feel safe saying that the new 2371 is the only FD vehicle in the county that has one.... if I'm wrong then...sorry. The tip up light bars are now widely used in the city. They help with visibility in traffic since they can be seen over most any vehicle (exception if box trucks).
  21. The 2004 tahoe was 2372, it is now 2373.
  22. We have two of the old suburban. One is U74 and one is (was) 2373. The old 2373 is now the "new" U74. The new 2371 did not replace a vehicle, it just shifted them down a number.
  23. Pleasantville Rescue 47 took the place of Patrol 7. The truck is maintained and manned by the Pleasantville Fire Patrol company. The county disbanded the designation of patrol and the new truck was given the designation as Rescue 47. It is a rescue pumper but there is no such county designation for such a truck. There is talk of trying to switch to squad but, like Helicopper said, this had staffing/training requirements and may not be possible. I agree with the idea of redoing designations so that they are more accurate. This is an issue state-wide...probably even country-wide. For example, some places use tanker to designate trucks that are actually tenders and have a pump or don't have a pump. Other counties use pumper tanker for tenders with pumps and tanker for tenders without pumps. Some counties use Rescue as the designation for a utility suburban or CFR response vehicle. Organizing and unifying it a bit would definitely be nice.
  24. Rest In Peace. Condolences to the young ladies family. Godspeed.
