  4. I will have to check. If you feel like it shoot them an email and they will answer you then let us know. On a different note, they are located and ship from Brooklyn, NY.
  5. I agree to stay away and fight it from a distance. Also, we are taught when searching and moving around in a structure to check and listen for a floor. Perhaps something like this can be done outside too...of course if time allows. Safe bet however is to stay away and fight from a far. I am glad that no one got hurt.
  6. How much did the response times change? Perhaps the slightly slower response time is worth the extra safety measures and possibility of having solid evidence in court. I was more so referring to the cameras images being pulled out when needed, not being monitored frequently. I also specifically meant outward facing cameras. I can see how inward facing cameras could pose an issue to personnel privacy and can catch them doing minor infractions such as sleeping on the job. However, should you be sleeping on the job? Probably not...however, I know there are times when everyone needs and does take a nap. If the response times were only lowered slightly then I do not see it as a very big negative when you weigh in the possible positives of having this footage. Also, do most of the calls we are responding to require the quicker response? Or are we just sick of hearing the public complain? Since there is such a high volume of "bulls***" calls in the emergency service field today, most accidents are happening responding to the "bs" calls. Since this is the case, would a slight increase in response time due to increased safety and awareness or risk taking be a terrible thing?
  7. Total bulls***! It amazing how common it is for such important things to be cut. When will people learn???
  8. Very cool! I hope eligible building take advantage of this great opportunity.
  9. I agree with how all of this media coverage is just promoting the drink. I mean if you look at this post, there have been a handful of people who have tried the drink just because of this thread. Imagine how many kids will try it if they continue to see it in the news and here discussions about it. I think all the media coverage is doing further damage. Banning will not work, this has been done before. Shortly after one thing is banned something more powerful comes along and gets into the hands of kids, and irresponsible adults.
  10. It could also be of use at car accidents and car fires. It can be used to review extrication and stabilization techniques, and used to review firefighting techniques at car fires. It could also help when a patient claims something was done wrong to them when being cared for. There are definitely both pros and cons for the topic.
  11. Agreed 100% I think that these videos could really help with QA/QI which really needs to be a larger focus. There are to many drivers out there that make dangerous or risky choices too often...and often timed the personnel in the truck won't speak up to the person or a Chief. These videos would be very beneficial and perhaps help to keep unworthy people from behind the wheel.
  12. I do not see a problem with this as long as the video is not showing any out of control responses or responses that are over the top. It is important to remember that anyone can see these videos and they can often fall into the hands of the wrong people. The same goes for posting pictures of suspicious fires. If a department wants to post videos of "proper" responses to incidents then I do not see much of a problem. However, I have watched a lot of response videos that are not utilizing a "proper" response. I know we have all seen them...the fire truck that goes onto two wheels when it approaches the scene of a house fire with no entrapment, or the very popular response of the second due engine that is on the wrong side of the road and median going head on with every car. These put the departments at risk for legal action. As long as the departments are smart about the videos they post, I feel they can be a useful tool for viewers. On another note, I feel there are way to many POV response videos up. These often show FF's responding erratically in their POV vehicle to either the scene or the firehouse. I do not feel that FF's or EMT's for that matter should be posting videos of them responding dangerously to calls. Departments should have rules against this. Some of these videos make me wonder how we get defensive when the citizens call the station and complain about FF's or EMT's responding to calls. It is not worth risking life and injury for a residential or commercial alarm...I know every-once in a while one of these is an actually fire but wait until your updated to put a rush on your response. The same goes for minor MVA's where you are called for traffic control or a small fluid spill...these are not emergencies and do not require risking lives to get to the incident. The real issue is fire departments and personnel posting videos or pictures that show the victims or patients, dead or alive. This is not right and is disrespectful to the parties involved and their families. I don't think anyone would want there dead family members becoming part of an on-scene photo shoot. But that is a topic for another time and another thread...
  13. Nice work by FF Wilcox! His heroic act potentially saved the his life and the lives of the other three FF's. It is important to always be on alert, not to the point of being paranoid, but just to the point where you accept that any incident can take a turn for the worst at any moment and to watch for the warning signs. You can never trust patients, especially overdose ones. They can be the nicest person in the world but the pills can turn them into a "monster." Good work brother! As far as my VAC's policy for crew safety, We are not to enter a scene that is threatening to the crew. However, as far as standing back, this is good but obviously someone has to make patient contact eventually. Also, In my area 99.9% of the time, one or two police officers are with the patient the entire time you are until your leave the scene. However, I notice that up in St. Lawrence County where I go for school, EMS calls do not have police present unless the call is for an assault, shooting, stabbing, or suspicion of violence. In villages that have their own law enforcement, Police will respond to EMS calls but this is not true out of the village. The Police can be asked to respond but this can often take time since this request is usually in state police jurisdiction. Stay safe everyone!
  14. It is a shame that several days after the agreement ended, there was a double homicide. Of course it is not possible to stop all crimes but ever little attempt helps to stop some. It is good to see Newburgh PD and Orange County are working together to make Newburgh as safer place. Keep up the good work.
  15. Joose also provides a cheap alcoholic drink that offers 12% ABV. This is just not in the news as often. It also offers more flavors.
  16. A few articles for thought... ABC News - 1 ABC News - 2 DePaul University Paper
  17. Pictures of damage and aftermath of our early morning fatal fire on 11-5-2010. First floor of the structure quickly became fully involved with heave fire coming out of all windows and spreading to the second floor. Quick knock down by PFD. Additional pictures at Potsdam FD
  18. Seems to be all fixed! Thanks for the prompt response and resolution admins, etc...AS ALWAYS!
  19. I do not see why using a cross as a memorial for the Troopers is the focus right now...but I do see how it can piss off certain groups. I agree with Helicopper and think they should have used the Utah Highway Patrol shield. However, is tis really a big deal?
  20. I too got an error message while posting a reply in the Four Loko thread. Now my reply is posted twice and it does not delete the post when it says it is.
  21. Four Loko's are very popular and I can only imagine the increase in popularity will continue. But can you really blame kids? I mean Four Loko's provide kids with something that will get them drunk and for very cheap. I believe they sell for $2.39 at the 7-11 in my town. Some people believe that Four Loko's was named because inventors realized that the drink puts the drinker through "four stages" all of which are "loko." The fourth stage of course being a sick stage that often ends with a blackout. I understand why states are looking to ban this drink. I also realize that this drink is not available in a lot of New York. I know at school in St. Lawrence County, most residents have never even heard of Four Loko's and they are not sold anywhere. But it seems that when something like Four Loko's are banned, it just allows for someone else to brew up a new concoction that gets people drunk and is appealing to young people. As per the topic of the thread, I do not think I have done any ETOH calls due to excesses consumption of Four Loko's but I do know that I have heard of people who should have probably gone oto the hospital because of consuming the drink. I personally do not drink Four Loko's as I would much rather prefer to sit in at Foley's Club Lounge and enjoy a cold pint of Captain Lawrence Kolsch. **Highly recommended**
  22. I've seen a the first episodes...in my opinion it is quite good. Those guys are faced with a very large task of keeping the roads cleared of snow and cleared of people when there is an avalanche threat. I recommend checking the show out.
  23. Really good looking Tanker. Best of luck with it!
  24. Nice looking tanker. Best of luck with it!
  25. Anyone have any details on Thornwood FD's fire this afternoon? I heard it was a dryer fire in the basement of the residence. Any extension? Based on the I/A times, it seems the M/A was precautionary based on them being released so quickly. Thanks in advance for any details/insight.
