I will keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

It is quite simple actually. If you are driven and want to volunteer to help your community and protect life and property then you find time no matter how many jobs you work. For me being in two FD's and a VAC are such a part of my life and hold such a big place in my heart, I could not see a situation where I would not be able to do it. Perhaps if I work 5 jobs, I will not be able to do 600 calls a year but I will still do the most that I can. No matter how much it costs to live in Westchester or anywhere else, if you really want to volunteer you do what it take to work and volunteer. At least thats my thought...

100% vounteer departments work in other counties in NY (some work in Westchester too...). Perhaps rather than pushing for more and more members, we should push for members who don't just join for the tax deduction... Departments do not need big numbers, they need big commitment. Telling people to stop by the fire house to inquire joining is funny. Most fire departments in this county do not have people hanging around throughout the day. Some don't even have people there when there is a call!

Very cool system! It would be great if Westchester County would do something like this. It will be interesting to hear how this works out. If all goes smoothly it is a great resource.

Nice work LAFD.

Pleasantville FD's Patrol Company is fire patrol in name only pretty much. We have adopted the title of Rescue Company. I guess it is just not worth the work to g and change the name officially. We used ot have Patrol 7 now we have Rescue 47. I feel this is similar to what has became of the Fire Patrols in Westchester County.

We have not done pump outs since hit with a the effects of a hurricane in 2004. I have not seen the old pump from 91 in a long time. It may not be a departmental order that we do not do pump details, but it seems the residents have been persuaded or convinced not to bother asking. Most residents whom I have personally helped with water issues, were concerned about requesting the fd. I may be missing something but it would appear we P'ville FD does not do pump outs. In my eyes, the department could use the positive PR. If P'ville FD does do pump outs, people (residents, members, etc) don't seem to know about it. Communication is vital!

You respond to pump-outs (Pump Details) if your department cares about Public Relations... With that said....Pleasantville FD does not do pump-outs. (To the best of my knowledge) However, Potsdam FD does a lot of pump details. Pump details are very good for PR and also allow you to check out different houses. Earlier this fall, Potsdam experiences a flash flood and Potsdam FD responded to some 60 pump details in about 12 hours. We also requested mutual aid from surrounding towns to go to numerous other pump details. For pump details, we are dispatched in house and by county just like for fire calls. If there is severe flooding, we set up a command post and rehab center in HQ. Firefighters return to HQ for food and rest when needed. When we are faced with a lot of pump details, we will prioritize these. Typically, the higher the water, the quicker we come. While waiting for the water to be pumped out, we walk around and check other nearby houses and shut off the gas/electricity if needed. You would be amazed at how much this means to residents and how much money in the form of donations it brings in. We will also check houses for smoke detectors and install smoke detectors free of charge if none are found or if the existing ones are old. As far as storm stand-by's we do not do these (at lest sine I have been a member) Part of the reason is that there are always a bunch of people hanging out at the station on (stand-by) all the time. Also, if the weather Potsdam is getting pounded by weather, people tend to make their way to the station anyways. It is amazing the difference that good moral makes around the firehouse and amongst the membership.

You have got to be real dumb to take/post pictures of deceased bodies. I feel his punishment could have been a bit more... In the words of the famous Antoine Dodson, "You are so dumb. You are really dumb–for real."

Anyone done an accident involving a hot air ballon or a hang glider into a tree? These are not so rare...someone on here should have experienced one. What was done?

Thanks for the info KCRD. Looks like nice work and a great stop by Yonkers FD!

Awesome shots. Thanks for sharing! Looks like it was a fast moving fire. Any extension to the B-side exposure?

Ebay is great for LED light strips. You can also get them at Walmart, Autozone, etc. These are great lights for going aroud a cabinet to provide cabinet lighting. Also useful as foot lights. For example on the crew step of an ambulance.

I understand where you are coming from. From my understanding, residents that are protected by the Westport FD pay a protection tax. Non-residents do not pay this tax so they pay when needed if in an MVA. So if you also charge Westport residents per incident, they will be charged double. Also I understand what you mean. For example in Mount Pleasant. Pleasantville VAC does not bill for residents or non-residents. However, one agency (Agency X) does bill patients every call. If we do a mutual aid for this agency, we do not bill the patient (Often resulting in a big Thank You!). On the other hand, on the VERY rare occasion that PVAC needs M/A to respond and Agency X is called, they will bill our residents. If your child needed an ambulance, I bet you would be very thankful to not receive a bill... There is no need for a VAC to bill. If evidence or reasons as to why this is, I can provide them. I hope this was not too far off topic...

People have been asking why I am so active in the Upstate I/A forum and why I am always talking about Potsdam FD in posts, so I figured I'd fill people in... I am a Mutual Aid member with the Potsdam FD while up in Potsdam for college obtaining a double bachelors in Music Education and Music Performance with a concentration on special needs music. That should clear up the confusion . Welcome to our newest members. I hope you enjoy and absorb the abundance of great knowledge that is passed around on EMTBravo!
