  1. You mean, "He started it" did not get Ryan out of the charge???
  2. Overkill is an understatement...
  3. Rest In Peace and God Bless You! Your a real hero to a lot of people.
  4. As is true with all great discussions, three sides are formed and disagreements arise. All sides make great and valid points. If we all agreed all the time, there would be no discussions, no need for words.
  5. I was not referring to taxpayers money being used...not everything purchased by EMS agencies is taxpayer money or money that people donate thinking it is for equipment. I personally do not think that when an agency does not bill, and a patient sends a donation, that the patient is implying, "here is $100 buy some glucose." I would imagine that they more so are sending it to say thank you. And the patients who have asked how they can donate, say they want to send a donation as a thank you for our services. I have also been n the situation where a patient takes out a $100 bill while WALKING into the ER and says, "Take this and buy your crew some drinks." OF COURSE I DECLINE THE MONEY!!!!!!! I REPEAT, OF COURSE I DECLINE THE MONEY!!!!!!! The point is that these are instances of people who are donating money as a thank you and want you to do something for yourself. Your night to celebrate can be paid for by your income... Im a pursuing music educator and in a year when I am working in a public school teaching music to students K-12 Monday thru Friday, my "night to celebrate" will be funded by me. There are volunteer music educators, music therapists, etc that receive donations. Is it wrong for the person to use the donation to buy dinner after a long day? Is the donator saying, "Here is $30, you MUST use it to buy valve oil?" I don't think so... It is up to the worker to use the money he/she makes how he/she wants. IMHO the same goes for money that is not taxpayer money and is earned/saved up by the members themselves.
  6. Perhaps there are agencies out there that throw parties for their members. Don't hardworking, dedicated, volunteers deserve a night to celebrate their hard work for the past year? I don't see the money as being wasted but rather spent giving the people who help a stress free and relaxing night one night a year. Is it possible that these agencies are not using the taxpayers money but rather money the members have earned, collected, and put aside for themselves? sounds quite possible to me. I understand what you are saying EMSer and this is absolutely not a dig on your or your post. I'm just saying that it is important to keep in mind that agencies do have money that is earned by the members (donations, etc) that the members have every right to use for a "lavish party" DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT SPEAKING ABOUT SPECIFIC AGENCIES OR AGENCIES THAT I AM PART OF.

  8. A paycheck does not equal competence or a high level of patient care.
  9. I would have to agree. I also know a bunch of very competent, respectful, professional and respect BLS providers who have never had a paid EMS gig.
  10. Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and for the family. I hope people who have details come forward.

  12. This made me curious as to what department do to prepare for animals. I know that not all departments have farms, stables, ranches, etc in their response district but you just never know. It is not a bad idea to hold a class on how to maneuver, control, and tie up livestock. 19. I also do not understand how he only got 16 years!?!?! I read another article today about a 20 year old brother who was roughhousing with his 18 year old brother. The roughhousing got out of hand and the 20 year old ended up killing the 18 year old. The 20 year old got sentenced 18 years to life in state prison. This case is obviously different but...come on only 16 years??? Watertown Daily Times

  22. Yes, steers walking on a roadway, are not very difficult to deal with but steers and livestock at fires can be. There actually are quite a few instructors/trainers that teach people how to tie up horses, cattle, etc to rescue them from fires or other disasters. Anyone who has ever battled a fire at a farm knows that it is quite hard to properly handle livestock that are scared. Their instinct is to return to the burning barn. Departments train their members on how to handle emergencies involving horse because without proper knowledge, the horse will win.
