What a tragedy! My heart goes out to the family and to the surviving son. It is a shame that the mother had to bring her kids down with her. The poor children had such bright futures ahead of them. Thoughts and prayers also go out to the emergency responders who responded to the incident. Dealing with incidents like this, especially when they involve children is very hard. Stay strong!

Very cool. I look forward to utilizing this a lot.

I don't think it hurts anything. I actually think it provides members and interested citizens with a nice display of department history. I also think that small displays in fire departments are found in almost every department and might even be done unintentionally.

Arts, culture, and history are not useless. At least, I don't think so! After all, I am a music educator. I can not imagine that you are the first person to have this idea. For some reason or another, there is no such museum in Westchester County.

I think in a perfect world, this would be a nice idea. However, present day and in todays world...not a good idea. Two big issues that I see hampering the idea are 1. staffing and 2. funding. I don't think there are enough firefighter's (Paid or Volunteer) with enough free time or knowledge of the fire service history, to run the museum. I also do not think that the necessary funding could be round up and collected. I mean, we have enough trouble getting donations from residents in our districts. It would be great to have a collection of items and stories from our past. Most firehouses do this on their own. Maybe in another life, this idea will work and be a nice addition to the Westchester County.

On Friday (4-8-2011), 30 people were trapped in an MTA elevator at the 181 St. Subway station. Nice work by the FDNY firefighters who removed everyone safely. CBS

Depending on where the parade is, you can respond from the parade to calls.

Great pics, thanks for posting them. Looks like a hell of a fire! Anyone know how long units were operating for?

Great thread! Good responses by all. Two things.... 1 - How do you know the "homeowner" is actually the homeowner? 2 - It is not uncommon to have controlled burns of houses, barns, etc. Make sure the public knows this and then have them set something up with the fire department.

With the excellent condition of the roadways in Texas combined with the exceptional visibility, I see why changing the speed limit to 85 mph is being discussed but, I do not think that all drivers can handle it. As a nother poster said, some people are accidents waiting to happen at 55 mph. Would you want your 17 year old driving alone on a roadway where the speed limit is 85? Too many poor drivers out there IMHO.

If the guy was drunk enough, it is possible he thought he was a dog. Therefore, the dog may have confused Ryan by barking at him. Ryan may have thought the dog was trying to communicate with him.
