What an incredible story. I can not believe the stories of the water that day did not get recognized earlier. That is simply an amazing thing. God Bless the people who did what was needed without hesitating.

Link to Article I find it hard to believe that when the Chief new one of his stations only housing an ambulance, that he would not have automatic mutual aid. Engines had to be called after the initial call when it was recognized that they would be needed. I could not help but notice a comment that was posted below the article... I know budget cuts have been heavily discussed on this site. Typically, the budget cut discussions focus on personnel but the poster who posted this comment clearly feels that budget cuts are effecting equipment and which equipment is available to answer alarms. Personally, I do not think this is a direct effect of budget cuts but rather lack of planning or communications. Trucks go down, that is a fact. Departments need to notify the proper people and also see if they can get other apparatus to cover. The Chief in this article mentions that he did check with surround departments but none had available equipment. However, it seems like he just stopped trying and it seems that he was banking on just having EMS calls...no good if you ask me.

LOL. No but in all seriousness, departments can rent firetrucks...perhaps the short time frame for the rig being OOS meant renting was not worth it.

Amazing video that I found on firehouse.com

Thanks for posting the full video. Really great job by the first to LEO who kept the scene under control. The one Officer specifically, allowed the citizens to help, then made sure to move them away from the car quickly. Smart thinking by attempting to extinguish the fire as well considering the patient was fairly close to he vehicles. It is nice to see the citizens who helped out, move away from the incident and let the professionals do their job once their assistance was no longer needed. Too often, we have people linger around the scene and get in the way. Not critiquing or anything but, one thing that I noticed was that the LEO were going to move he patient out of the danger zone but then it seems they changed their minds. Granted it appears he fluids from the vehicle and motorcycle are moving away from the patient but I did notice that the patient and the people helping the patient were in the direct path of the smoke and the extinguisher. I was not there, and I doubt anyone members of this site were but it is important to if possible move the patient as far away as possible from all danger. Unless for some reason this is not a good idea, which I am sure the LEO in this video had a good reason. Really awesome job by all people involved!

We had an identical rule in my Kindergarten classroom...sad that it needs to be reiterated on this site to adults (primarily) who all have the same common interests and passions. Lets just try and say things that we would not mind if said about us and get along!

NO WHEEL CHOCKS!!!!!! Also, I could be wrong but too me it seems that the truck (sorry ENGINE) was moving with this FF/Chief on the roof. If you look at picture #1, the driver is still in the rig and the vehicle seems to be positioned more on the lane of travel and the person on the roof is sitting (indicates securing himself for the ride). In picture #2, the driver is out of the rig, the person on the roof is standing and the truck seems to be significantly farther to the side of the rode then in picture #1.

I too would loe ot see the rest of the footage. As far as LEO response, there appears to be one Officer on scene during the footage. (or at least someone in what appears to be Officer attire)

In all seriousness, this truly is amazing and a wonderful sight too see! It is such a relief to know that people will still team together to potentially save the life of a stranger. Good work by all!!!

Happy Birthday! Enjoy the day!

Let's keep this thread on task...the task is to help those in need.
-
I might be missing something but, how does someone fall through the roof and that not be noticeable from the roof. By this I mean if they went onto the roof wouldn't they be able to see where she fell?
-
I thought it would be nice for there to be a thread in which people could share their memories of the fallen heroes. If you knew someone who died that day, please take a minute to give us slight insight into the life of that hero and memories you have with that hero. *Moderator Note: Pre-Existing Thread 9/11 Wall of Remembrance
