I wish I could take it....I can make every day but the last...damn.

Thermal imagining cameras can not see past some materials so you may need to open up to get beyond certain layers. This happens around fireplaces sometimes.

God Bless You. I'm sure your son is looking down at you and is so happy of who his father is. Thank you for your service and welcome to the site.

Like someone posted above, TIC's are great but are still a tool. Any tool in the wrong hands can be misused and useless. Thermal imaging cameras are great for locating people in wooded areas when ejected from vehicles. Besides human sight, fire departments don't have any other tools readily available.

Are there any regulations regarding support capabilities for properly installed pool covers? By this I mean, are they rated to support a certain amount of weight is anchored correctly?
-
I hope they both have a speedy recover. Stay safe!

I am assuming you mean accepting international students as M/A members in the US? I do not know how residency factors into this. International students are probably not citizens...so I don't know how it works out with regards to that.

Mutual Aid members who use their home departments gear are covered under the M/A departments Mutual Aid Insurance. This covers rips, tears, contamination, etc that occurs while on a fire scene, training etc. At least thats what I've been told/explained.

Yeah, we had to bag everything (turnout gear, helmets, boots, hoods, saws, tools, air packs, etc) and they are quarantined in a trailer behind our station. Departments from across the North Country had loaned gear to firefighters who have needed to turn their gear in. There is a lot of confusion about whether the gear is gone for good or not, and how this decision is made. It is also my understanding that they came around and did air quality and particle tests on different areas/surfaces of rigs...not sure if rigs are going to need special work.

I have the same cousin(s). lol

In response to recent undertakes in the North Country after a working fire involving hazardous materials, I wanted to get some more information on the matter. Who decides the policy for dealing with contaminated or potentially contaminated gear, tools, apparatus after being exposed to hazardous materials? State? County? Department? What are the policies that exist? Does the gear get tested for chemical levels? Timeframe? By who? Who is responsible for replacing gear? State? County? Department that hosted the incident? Members own department? M/A Insurance? Thanks and stay safe, Madison

I am not trying to get involved in any of the he said, she said, he did what, she did what chit chat but... What someone says on their Facebook, Twitter, etc is their responsibility and assuming the comment was made by the account holder (not a hacker), then that person is aware of what they are doing. If they are breaking a law, and are caught then punishment is handed to them. If the persons department want to do something, they can try. IMHO unless the controversial comments are posted on this site, then it is not the business of this site. If something happened on Facebook lets have the discussion on Facebook. If something happened on Twitter, lets have the discussion on Twitter. If something happened on EMTBravo, then lets have the discussion on EMTBravo. Personally. if at all possible, lets not waste time having this discussion. People will say what they want to say...I do not see that changing. This is NOT meant as disrespect to ANYONE, not to moderators, investors, members, Chiefs, Priests, Rabbi's, Teachers, the President, etc. Just my $0.02. I take no sides.

My department up at school helps the community with smoke detectors all the time. We advertise that community members can come to the fire house and get smoke detectors at no cost to them. usually they take them to instal them themselves but if needed, we would do so. St. Lawrence County actually just got a grant (I believe it was a grant) based on the low incomes in the county and tough financial situations to outfit entire houses with smoke detectors if the household qualifies. If the household qualifies, we go to the house and install smoke detectors in all of the necessary locations at no cost to the home owner. In my experience, every little bit yo do for the community looks great for the department and word spreads. It is such an easy way to keep the tax payers on your side.

Better question is to ask who has people who staff the truck and operate off of it. The reason I say this is because a one company department may have a truck but not a "truck company."

If kept in the right hands and used appropriately, the footage caught on helmet cameras and other on-scene recording devices can be used as g training tool and provide firefighters with an opportunity to provide constructive criticism and to learn from past experiences. I know that in my department at school, firefighters are permitted to wear helmet cams if they wish, but this footage is for PERSONAL use only and department use if the videos owner allows. This footage does not leave the owners hand, which IMHO is the only way to go about it appropriately. As with mostly everything, there is an appropriate and inappropriate way to utilize it, it all boils down to being smart and thinking twice before making a careless decision.
