  1. Grabbed this off another site. This is so bad a**. The Dog Who Cornered Bin Laden
  2. So what was there that was not needed? R-4 is a stones throw from it's first due and NRFD has equipment on it's other rigs to get a job started. R-1 was a little further away from it's first due but YFD has a spare heavy rescue and the truck companies to cover. The technical rescue team would probably respond faster from playland than if they had to assemble on any other day. The helicopter was in service and WCPD patrols Playland anyway they were in their first due. Collapse Rescue, USAR, and the flatbed are support rigs and responding from playland probably wouldn't put them too far outside the normal response. The vollie equipment that was there was more than covered by the redundant volley apparatus that surrounds their district. Conclusion: the career equipment that was there wasn't an example of waste. The vollie equipment that was there may be an example of over redundancy and waste, but until the fifetoms are dissolved in the Tri state area you'll not see any improvement.
  3. Water on a metal fire??? You can clearly hear someone state that titanium is burring in the video yet they continue to pour water on it after initial explosions??? I'm totally dumbfounded???
  4. This is a link to a post Joe Brown made on his blog earlier this month. He is the tillerman for his platoon at DCFD Truck 17 as well as the Tower Ladder Captain at Kentland Volunteer Fire Department. Amongst other things he is one of the founders of Traditions Training which has held classes for Millwood and other Westchester County Departments. I've read his stuff over the years and found this post to be interesting. Return To Effectiveness by Joe Brown
  5. I think the issues with Kentland are more about perception than reality. They are relentless marketeers of what they are good at and don't miss an opportunity to post it on their website and that rubs some folks the wrong way. Fact of the matter is whether or not you like their personalities, they are a top notch fire department. Credit too should be given to Bladensburg VFD which is just down the road from Kentland. They too are a phenomenal all volunteer FD that boarders the District of Columbia.
  6. As with Katrina, the White House offered assistance immediately. In fact, it was offered for the national guard and the lion share of FEMA assets to head to the Gulf long before the true nature of how bad Katrina was really assessed.... The White House was told to stand down by the former quack governor of Louisiana... By the time she realized that she needed help, it was too late. The White House took the fall as being slow and unresponsive. Just listen to the liberal media and they can get Americans to believe anything they want.
  7. As you mentioned, he's usually not in the first car, or the first Sikorsky for that matter.... The other thing is that particular limo is a President Bush model vehicle. The Beast in its latest iteration is significantly different. For the latest Obama model look for Escalade headlights and mirrors and a boxier shape particularly toward the rear of the vehicle. The Beast is is rumored to actually be a GMC commercial truck chassis with various Cadillac style body parts and other items borrowed from the Caddy lineup.
  8. Yes a FDNY MOS might be expected to climb 20 stories on a routine basis but I'd be willing to bet that the majority of FF fatalities due to heart attack, even amongst large city FD's, don't happen on highrise jobs. Why? Because there just aren't a ton of highrise jobs to begin with. Most fires are occurring in mid/low rise residential which is not exclusive to city FD's. This being said the chances of Joe Vollie rolling up on a third floor taxpayer apartment in Dobbs Ferry, Ossining etc. and suffering an MI are as good as a City brother doing the same in Queens or the Bronx. The effort required to put out those fires is the same thus the risk is similar as well. So why should it be accepted that someone of lesser health can do equal work at an equal job just because it's not in a city where a handfull of companies climb more than 6-8 stories on a regular basis?
  9. Not too long ago one of these passed me on the FL TPKE as I was northbound to Ocala. Probably picking up I-10 for the long trek west... Looked sharp at night.
  10. You'll have a tough time finding any data about them on factory websites as they are not popular builds these days due to departments loading up rigs to handle multiple functions. Your best bet is to call the factory rep for whomever you are interested in receiving bids from and discuss it with them. You may also want to find someone who has assisted in writing apparatus spec's before to help craft the types of questions you want to ask in order to see if it is indeed possible to build what you want. The other option that your department has, is to find a relatively modern (1990's and newer) rig that fits your needs and have it freshened or refurbished. Ossining for example just sold L-42 which was a fantastic 100ft single axle E-One. A few items that you are likely to encounter with new construction of a 100ft single... Tip load and flow will most likely be limited to medium or light duty (500 or 250 tip load) to save on aerial weight... Your cab size may be limited as well to a standard non raised roof 4 door with no extension for seating above 4-6. Your overall GVWR due to braking ability may limit your equipment to basic truck company (not incomplete just the essentials) items... I don't suspect you'll be able to tack on full hydraulic rescue systems, shoring materials, specialty rescue equipment, etc.... Finally I'd pretty much forget it being a quint. It has been about 10 years since I have contemplated a 100ft single on behalf of a department I was affiliated with so I'm not current on what you can do with ultra modern engineering, but the last set of spec's I laid eyes on were for a 100ft RM Seagrave with a 250lb tip load and traditional truck company equipment, no prepiped waterway, and the spec amount of ground ladders to meet truck company requirements.
  11. Is that Aviation Hose's LaFrance wagon on the flyer... Odd rig to put on there.
  12. Do your research prior to hosting a casino night.... There may be certain laws/ordinances that must be adhered to in order to provide gambling services. Carnivals, auctions, boot drives, breakfasts and dinners, are all possibilities. Having someone set it up for you will obviously cut into revenue so try and do as much work for yourselves as possible.
  13. Chic Fil A is practically it's own food group for me. They've been around for decades south of the Mason Dixon. When I left NY the closest was at the Paramus mall.
  14. I don't normally get excited over brush units.... BUT that is the most bad a$$ looking brush rig I've seen yet!!!
  15. Was Gerry the one with the white Chevy Suburban? He was my essentials instructor...
  16. Just curious, how is the factory warranty on a vehicle like this effected by use at a law enforcement agency. Is it the same as if grandpa had bought it, or does the interceptor package have a special warranty that includes/excludes certain items?
  17. For all intents and purposes it is behind the old Hudson Valley Motorcycle shop to the right
  18. I fully understand the textbook responsibilities of the BC in Westchester County. I would challenge your assumption that the IC cannot pass command. Are you saying that if a local chief and his engine roll up on a first due structure fire with entrapment, and it is known at that time that a neighboring department with their chief is responding second due and said second due chief's arrival is expected within a short period of time, that the 1st due chief cannot pass command should he need to act in order to assist the first due engine in life saving activities? Ultimately the first due chief is responsible which in turn may mean that in order to effect the most successful outcome at any particular emergency, that they may need to pass command to someone more qualified or to someone who can reasonably perform the IC task while the first due chief performs another in the interest of public safety. This is permitted in many other jurisdictions and I have seen it happen in Westchester County. If there is chapter and verse that indicate that this is not legally permissible please site it and I will amend my post.
  19. The fact of the matter is that this pig is a murderer. Instead of using a gun, he used fire. These guys need to be charged with 1st degree murder and the prosecutor should be seeking nothing less than the death penalty. Our country continues to bring butter knives to fights where our enemies are bringing everything under the sun that is more deadly. Let our soldiers, cops, firefighters, prosecutors, EMS workers, and any other individual charged with protecting our country and the lives of its citizens and guests act in a manor that doesn't create the fear of political or legal reprisal. This guy got off easy and is going to get three squares a day for 20 years... Legal insanity at its best.
  20. Based on the "as per the IC..." it sounds like indeed the BC (Coordinator not Battalion Chief as we're using Westchester County DES language here) was assisting with fireground communication, which as a coordinator is one resource they need to be proficient in. On the other hand, I see no issue with passing command to the BC if the IC's attention needs to be focused onto a specific aspect of the incident based on their individual expertise or knowledge.... For example, a WSF is impinging on an adjacent structure which contains HAZMAT and the IC happens to be the highest trained officer on scene within HAZMAT protocol... I would see no issue passing command from the IC (local fire department officer who has established command) to the Battalion Coordinator and in turn the original IC becomes the operations leader for assessing, protecting, and requesting resources for the adjacent structure with HAZMAT concerns.
  21. Really? Have you ever been to Millwood Station 1?
  22. It's not that uncommon among those selling specialty items. They up the price in an attempt to capture interest from more exclusive bidders.
  23. FYI this is the same airframe that Maryland State Police Aviation has on order to replace its front line fleet of 7 Eurocoptor Dauphins. It was previously discussed here: Link to EMTBravo Thread
  24. Ding ding ding! Maybe the sound shore region wants to compete with Mount Pleasant as the tower ladder capital of the world!
  25. It is my understanding that Seth incorporated it as a not-for-profit that falls under IRC section 501c3 or 501c4
