The problem is that people use online forums without regard to the same courtesy as you would in person. My suggestion is to post as if you were sitting in the day room or on the front bumper of a rig following a call. There is a lot of knowledge here.... Some new, some old, some by the book, some by experience... And a bucket full of tweeners. Don't take this blind opportunity to type as an excuse to get away with something you wouldn't have the balls to say to your peers face using the same tone. We all know that the web is full of "keyboard cowboys". This being said, everyone loosen up when it comes to the down county career officers that pose tough questions on this forum. Much like a subscription to FireEngineering, these guys hold a wealth of knowledge that is every bit as valuable as a class. Stop fighting them on the issues that are known to plague the fire service and use them as a resource. This is one of the few places in America where constructive conversation about emergency services exists and the moderators are spending too much time babysitting the few instigators and their counterparts with thin skin.

I was merely trying to get the original poster to be more specific other than the obvious of showing a picture of something potentially dangerous and then saying PLEASE DONT DO THIS... which does little to inspire educated discussion on this site.

Millwood, with the support of Chappaqua, Sleepy Hollow, Archville, Pocantico Hills and others made a similar delivery over the weekend. MFC Supply Drive I happened to speak with a buddy up there who mentioned it. I am not aware at this time of how they worked in conjunction with the departments in need to determine which items would be shipped and how the plan was executed.

I don't think Chief Flynn intended any ill will with the question.... If someone said to me "lets put together a support drive for XYZ county" I would say great... Followed by a list of questions such as what do they need so that we're not inundating them with unneeded supplies, who is the best person on the receiving end to work through so that the items get delivered in a timely manner and don't sit unused only to be discarded after the emergency has passed, when is the best time to deliver them (making a delivery at night to a location that doesn't have power will only complicate things), what type of resources to the receiving party have to facilitate an offload or do we need to send enough manpower to do it... etc etc etc. People like a story and they like details to go with it. I think that's where Chief Flynn was coming from.

I'm curious as to your concern because there are several places to go with this.... Is it the lack of PPE? Standing on top of fire apparatus in a place not specifically designed for FF's to operate from? Extinguishing a utility pole fire on a non power transmission/distribution cable? That department is right in EMTBravo's back yard.... Engine markings give it away even with the blurring in the photo.

Sorry I miss read the LoHud article and thought it said that she struck his vehicle which in turn struck him.... I've re read to see that she struck his vehicle and then him.
-
There is very little you can do in such a confined space... The safest thing would have been to walk southbound in the northbound lane toward traffic along the shoulder until the treeline began again to avoid exactly what happened which was being struck by his own vehicle. Same thing at a train crossing... run toward the train not away from it so that when it strikes your vehicle it doesn't land on you.

HA! LMAO. Is Larry Bremmer around? That was his favorite firefighting appliance! On another note, the ISO process has awarded them with a rating of 2. This took into place manpower, equipment, water supply and rumor has it several special factors designed specifically for the Sound Shore by Capt. Nechis.... So they should be congratulated because their efforts will most likely have a direct result in insurance premiums paid by property owners and in these economic times even with the wealth in the area, every dollar counts!

Given the extreme circumstances of what happened ten years ago, I'm curious as to folks opinion about shutting down EMTBravo for the day on Sunday in memory of those that were lost. There are so many things to be contemplated, remembered, mourned, and reflected upon that day, that posting here seems almost trivial. Maybe a simple message left when people navigate to the site that we are taking the day to remember. I realize that this site is a conduit of information for many, so there are absolutely reasons to keep it running too. I'd like some constructive conversation to follow. Please do not disrespect those lost by turning this into a circus. Think before you post. God Bless -Ed-

There are several factors that make finding an extra pilot for this aircraft difficult. First, it is a tri-jet with one engine mounted in the tail which creates a different flying experience as there is an additional thrust axis. BUT even if you could find a UPS or FedEx pilot (who are essentially the only domestic operators of the DC10 and MD11 airframe left, they would need to have an aerial firefighting certification. On top of that, this aircraft carries it's load of suppressant in an external pod which significantly alters the control dynamics of the airframe both from a pre and post drop weight distribution standpoint and aerodynamically. I've way oversimplified this but folks should get the point When however, this asset begins making drops, it will make a significant difference

This is the tanker Seth mentioned in a previous post... Tanker 910 There is another larger air tanker on a 747 airframe which I do not believe has been deployed to TX at this time 747 Supertanker

The Captain is on the right track... Let me add though what is/was missing from this long discussed issue.... Which will absolutely shock everyone... In reality this has exactly ZERO to do with Police Officers and Firemen.... That is correct... ZERO... What is missed here that goes on every where else is that there are a******* in every line of work and that is what creates the issue. Cops and Firemen have been buddies for a century... It's just the jerks that screw it all up.

I disagree. That attitude signals a defeat to the dirt that started all of this. People should go about their lives doing what they want to do. If you want to be in the city then so be it. If not no one will blame you. Dont let the most gracious nation in the world let a bunch of cave dwellers prevent us from congregating on our own soil. You are free to travel to any corner of our nation at your own will. Do not surrender that right to these folks by broadcasting a discouraging tone. Be aware and vigilant. Do not drop your guard. Do not surrender our freedom by cowering in our own back yards. Let the world know we are still here next week by not resting in the shadows!!!!

Condolences to the family and friends of the individual who passed away during the Croton River water rescue yesterday. I hope the brothers that were tossed into the water aren't too banged up and are doing well. When someone with on-scene knowledge of the events has a moment, could you post some info about how these events unfolded? What caused the FF's to be thrown from the boat (victims panicked, water flipped boat, off balance rescue attempt etc). Did they ride the current all the way from Silver Lake Beach to the RR trestle (if so that must have been scary as hell). Who made the grab of the civilians and FF's at the trestle. Was there a difference in the type of boat used by PD vs. FD.

http://www.firehouse.com/news/top-headlines/critical-nj-responder-succumbs-injuries Critical N.J. Responder Succumbs to Injuries Firehouse.com News Posted: Mon, 08/29/2011 - 11:45am Updated: Mon, 08/29/2011 - 12:04pm A Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad member who was critically injured after being swept away in floods waters Sunday has died, according to The Times of Trenton. EMT Michael Kenwood, a member of the squad's swift water rescue was hospitalized after being pulled from the water early Sunday with undisclosed injuries. He was attempting to search a submerged car near Johnson Park at approximately 4 a.m. after Irene hit the area before becoming trapped in the water. The 39 year-old was tied to another responder when they entered the water, but they soon found the current was too strong and tried to turn back when one of them fell. They came free from the line held by other rescue squad members. The submerged car was later determined to be empty. Funeral arrangements are pending.

I pass it all the time. The inventory changes very little over time, but it DOES change a little. I've never gotten a good answer about why it's there.

So NYU is evacuating but Beth Israel and Bellevue aren't?

The best combination was about 15 (give or take) years ago when you could get a wire framed pak with a carbon composite 4.5... no options just a pass alarm... That was the lightest pak I've ever worn and like you I've been through 2200's with steel bottles and survivair's with similar sized 2200 bottles all the way up to the current dumbbell that is out there.

Here in Orlando metro, had the Oak trees thinned last year so probably just bring the patio furniture into the garage along with a few flowering potted plants.

That's because he chose tuna over wahoo...

Totally get your frustration but the pics do most of us a lot more good than the trivial nonsense that goes back and forth with a relative few posters. Please don't stop posting photos. Lately the bickering is cleared up relatively quickly by the moderators, yourself inlcuded.
