  1. The National Weather Service just issued a tornado watch for Dutchess County from now until 21:00 hrs this date.
  2. Well I guess it is better to have this thing overplayed and have us on alert then have us taken by surprise, seems though more and more storms are being blown up, I just hope the "boy who cried wolf" thingee doesn't start coming into play when the storms don't pan out.
  3. Well said as always Cogs couldn't agree more.
  4. I have to disagree, The department should have the preplanning and the assignments already placed in the CADS, the dispatchers roll should be to dispatch what is requested. Now if your talking about out of service equipment you may have an arguement, but in our county every evening at 18:00 hrs there is a broadcast of the entire counties and neighboring Litchfield county apparatus that is o/o/s. I will agree that if the IC just asks for a ladder and two engine then the dispatcher bangs out the next closest units available. I do agree with the request for a piece from a certain company if there is something closer that will provide the same service, that is wrong. Again, if the dept. is organized they should have the planning already be done. The dispatcher in Poughkeepsie does not have any idea where the nearest water supply is in XYZ district. If a certain M/A piece is out on another run then the dispatcher job is to advise the IC of that and they will advise of what the replacement piece is. Bottom line the Dept has to get their assignments established ahead of time and if this is done they all ready know what M/A is coming. It is alot easier to request a 2nd alarm then it is to ask for this that and something else.
  5. Yeah his own test burn stuff was pretty interesting, and good sell for the site. I also found a mini course of the Underwriters Labs site http://www.ul.com/ as soon as the window opens you will see the course in the left corner, pretty interesting stuff on engineered lumber and the fire service, it is worth the view.

  7. that is the only time that I can remember of someone getting arrested for impersonating a firefighter at a scene, better keep the police away from the station, seems we have alot of members, nope hold that thought, I better not finish, ouch!!!!!

  12. getting closer here, winds seem to picking up too
  13. When we spec our apparatus it is spec'd to what it is replacing but with the newer technology. When we have a source pumper that goes to water so it has a large pump (1500 gpm) and carries alot of LDH (2500' of 5"), this also goes to grass/brush fires so it is equipped with a class A foam system. Our attack engine is setup with packs/tools and several attack lines with a moderate size pump: 1250 and 1000 gal. booster tank, this the next rig to be replaced so we have talked of the same type setup with adding a CAFS. The tanker was the last one replaced and the old one had 2000 tank, new one 3000, both equipped with 3-10" dumps. Bottom line we try to have the vehicle serve in a designed role. We are also lucky enough to have several M/A companies very close so if we have a rig down it is pretty easy to have a M/A rig fill a role.
  14. is someone supposed to be posting pictures?
  15. I see Joe was out there with his rake too, nice photo by the way Signman. Did you have to go to the Fairview yard or Wassaic yard to get your repair kit?? *Note* If anyone buys their own vest make sure you compensate for your gear, I thought I made a mistake by getting a 4X but it fits great over the gear.
