Tom that's what I like about you, not afraid to ask a question if you're not sure. Great information and something not often talked about anymore with the onset of airbags, hybrid vehicles and the many other safety features; back to basics that are often overlooked today.

that smiley sums it up Doc.

Happy B-Day to Ed and Moose too

Dan as you know the old saying "pictures speak 1000 words", that really holds true to the emergency services. I for one would never worry about what people think here about my PPE because as stated I wear mine faithfully, that can't be said for alot of others, to many times you and I see it, either no PPE or piece mealed together. The fire service clearly needs to get better.
-
Not that this is an excuse, this was one of their own in the car from what I have read, maybe just maybe they were rushing ops. However I must agree there are alot of on sceners that should have better PPE on.
-
Yep that guy was me, and I agree Dan, I did take one of you there though on the ladder with TIC. You had your waist strap on, I was referring to the waist strap debate regarding pics posted here. i said at the fire the other day that if I take pics without the SCBA you know that someone here would say Hey where's the SCBA. You know us, if we NEED it on, we wear it!!!!!!! Mark

I got an email from the secretlist on firefighterclosecalls.com about this incident, tragic incident for all. BillyG The Secret List 11-21-08 0645 hours http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?75418 UPDATE: Fire apparatus being delivered strikes and kills man in PA. Thursday, November 20, 2008- As posted yesterday, to be clear, the incident yesterday in Pennsylvania involved a piece of apparatus being delivered-NOT an in service rig. The man was struck and killed by a New Jersey FD's brand new aerial ladder truck in Monroe County, PA. The circumstances were pretty unusual-workers at a nearby vineyard saw the car go airborne then bounce down an embankment and slam into an iron gate and stone wall at the winery. The workers said a man staggered out of the car. They called 911 and told the man to stay put, but he refused their help and crawled back up the embankment...the man, now a "pedestrian" was then struck by the rig on the highway. The apparatus is brand new and has yet to be added to the fleet of the Passaic, NJ FD. A vendor was driving it from a Pierce Manufacturing plant to N.J., where it was going to have final work done before being delivered to the FD.

I live in the middle between the Silver and Dover towers and as far as the best tower well it seems that Clove may be my best, time will tell, at this point we have no choice but to see if it works, there is no going back now. Hopefully the simo will reach you no matter where you and that is the goal.

they were just posted, most likely the alert and photos will get linked.

great shots, gives a better view of actually how massive this pile is. Chief was there any thought, discussion on using class A foam on some of the fire pockets, yeah I know not cheap but an option none the less.

A few shots of the Structure Fire in Dover this afternoon, M/A from Pawling. Wassaic, Amenia and Millbrook. I got there late so this is pretty much after the fire was knocked down. Kudos to the aggresive attack by the JHK crew of Firefighters Mirande and Busa with a 2 1/2" line, great job guys!!! Link to Incident Alert

I found one more, shows the ground ladder x129 was talking about.

Seems logical to me. This was a pile of wood, not a structure with life hazards where as you would want the closet vehicles to respond, the call not to strip the entire area for a large bon fire seems the appropriate move here. Jumping over depts in this type of situation is the only way to operate. If a tanker had to travel an extra distance to elimanate leaving the entire surrounding area naked common sense should dictate that this is the correct operations and obviously this is what was done. Good work guys!!!!!

Me too Doc, my old low band pager now works better than ever since going off clove, I get every dispatch that is made from the 911 center. My UHF pager/portable sucks, If I rely on it I will never make a call. Without an external attenna my UHF pager does not open in my house. Not sure why the low band can't stay up on Clove, but I guess it most liklely is a cost factor. I can't see where the simo is going to help open the pagers that are in your home, if it isn't opening now with them going off the nearest tower than going simo most likely will not help.

I like the layout of the rear, well designed and organized.
-
Well make it bigger, you may need to get another part time job also.
-
Yeah Tom everyone did a great job, we were short handed, all the hunters must have still been in the woods.

Nice pics Dan, thanks for including me in your group photo ops, yeah I know it's the blue gear, but you let Johnnie B sporting his "borrowed" blue coat in. Seriously, I have some proof that I actually went, glad to see some pics of me working, usually taking the pics myself. Is it ok to copy these to our site and give you props as always. Mark
