Couldn't agree more, all you have to do is listen to the radio and see that it is not only the day calls or 12 hour block. I will only speak regarding my own dept., we miss very few calls; NDP is simo dispatched on ALL our calls and have covered any of the ones we were not available for, which I believe is 2 out of approximately 70 calls, don't hold me to that. As for us "giving" things up, again I will speak only of my dept., we addressed this very issue in the past and have never had an issue with going with a paid service, it is something that is higher than us, this is why we added NDP to all (even fire calls) our dispatches. I will not get into the politics of this issue here as this is not the stage, however as I said this is not anything new that we haven't already tried to address, at least on my organizations part.

here is the replacement I believe, after they added items, built by firematic same company that is building ours.

fine work by the New Hamburg FD, nice on scene shots
-
thanks Chief and also for the tour of the PUC after delivery

I stopped by their station the next morning to inquire if they had used the new foam system on the PUC as well, no one was around except the Terry FE service van.

Bill great stuff as always, quick question: on the "backdraft" shot and for others that you have low light what setting or group of settings do you set the camera for. I just got a canon XSI and would like to know what works best before I get there and ruin the shots, I know it easy to use one of the auto settings, just curious how you approach your shots. Thanks, Mark

great shots as always Brian, I especially like the shot #DSC8119, firefighter in the doorway with flames behind.

Joe you never saw the recover video of our FWD in December?

Why not?? No real reason, we saw a Pierce Lance from Peru NY at the NYS Chief's show in 1988 that was pianted blue and we took pictures of the rig and brought them back to the company and we voted to paint our tanker which was at Pierce being refurbished the blue/white color scheme, all other vehicles purchased from that point forward have been painted blue/white. We have a new utility on order from Firematic Manufacturing with an expected delivery of September and just got permission to start spec'ing a new ambulance with a 2010 deliver, I would expect to see more blue on the new ambulance then the current one as the new utility will have more than the current one.

thanks for sharing, I actually made my way to Garrison FD for the first time, we attended the fundraiser Spaghetti dinner a few months ago, great group.

Love the shots from the past, nice reminder of the rigs that served our communities well.

Well always had three engines, but when we bought the current 69-11 we sold off two of the engines, the international went to the town and the FWD was sold privately. The main reason was room, as you guys are in the same boat, the apparatus today is much bigger. we actually years ago had four pieces in the front three bays. It is VERY difficult to say the least to fit a current rig in a 9' high door, that's why we added the new building out back and the floor to the rear bay was cut out and lowered a few years.

The good old Snorkel, aka 224, 69-45 or the eight ball. We bought it from South Amboy, NJ late 80's, we had it for several years but it was not user friendly around the district it was sold in the mid 90's, it went to a paint company in Chi-town.

And the current fleet:

Mark, thanks for the bump up, I missed the first paypal announcement, one ordered, keep up the great job.

Well this question could be directly tied to you first one, if it is driven out of the district daily lets say 20 mile each way and then to 1000 calls a year, training, meetings, conferences the mileage adds up pretty quickly. I must have missed all the new chief vehicles posted because I haven't seen that many, the ones that have been are pretty even mix of paid/volunteer.
-
We have no chief vehicles, as Asst. Chief (Car 3) I receive no perks nor do I expect to. The District Chief and Deputy Chief (both district positions) summit mileage logs and are paid based on the current mileage rate allowed under NYS. I do not pay anything more for insurance through my carrier than I did without lights/siren.

thanks Nate, close to my top 10.

Dover Station #1 and #2 were dispatched for a garage fire on Summer Street in the Station #1 area. The JHK brothers made another quick knock down under the direction of Chief Aaron Sherer. I got to the scene after overhaul.

Dan any idea if they will be posted?
