Holy cow! I know it's a sensitive topic, but wow. I merely stated an opinion, that I know would NEVER happen, and would never carry on the job. I know my protocols, I know what I would do in a hairy situation in reality. Again, just an opinion. I know I would never feel comfortable with some of my partners carrying. I'll keep my mouth shut next time. Talk about "stirring the pot".

Training training training! I know this would never happen, but "training" would be huge. I simply stated an opinion, hence my apology if this starts a battle. Again, simply my opinion. Proper licensing, safety classes, experience with handguns, etc. When and when not use deadly force. Obviously an EDP off his meds, PD would be dispatched and we stage for them to secure the scene, same goes for a intox, injuries from assault, ya get my drift. A violent diabetic, well, I'm sure we have all dealt with them and KNOW that deadly force is not an option. In my experience, manpower to control the patient is all that was needed until they were stabilized with ALS interventions. As far as PD goes, they need to be there to have your backs if s*** were to hit the fan. One county I work in, PD is advised of a medical call, not dispatched like they are in another county I work in. Trust me, knowing PD is going to be at every Fire/EMS call is great. But there is always that ONE time when something goes horribly wrong and we are by ourselves, with no PD, and we cannot rush out of the scene for some "unexpected" reason and we can do NOTHING about it. Liability, of course there will be more liability, that's why we have training, and only CERTIFIED members/employees would be permitted to carry. People are nuts these days, who knows why some people are the way they are and why they just snap and do something stupid. Again, just my opinion.

Apologies in a advance if this starts a battle......Not that being armed would have made a difference because we certainly wouldn't enter a scene with weapons drawn, but, I think we are in a time where EMS, and even fire personnel should be allowed to conceal carry if they wish to do so. Of course all appropriate legal measures would have to be taken and a safety class should be taken before an employer would allow such a circumstance. But I know, EMS is EMS, PD is PD etc etc. But, people are crazy, and PD don't always respond to EMS calls.

Brewster FD- TC provides to 2 EMT's weekdays 6a-6p on their ambulance, Dutchess County: Union Vale FD- Weekdays 6a-6p ALS. Intercepts on nights and weekends. Millbrook FD- M,T,W,F,S i believe, 5a-5p ALS. Intercepts on off hours. Beekman and Pawling FD's- 24/7 ALS Town of Wappinger- 24/7 ALS. Medic 1, 24 hours, Medic 2, 16 hours East Clinton FD- ALS Intercepts only Responses to Castlepoint VA, and I believe the Fishkill and Downstate Correctional. Back up ALS to BVAC

Union Vale has a BLS trauma/O2 bag, AED, Collar bag, a board and a stokes on our Rescue/Pumper, and our rescue truck has the same plus an additions BLS/O2 bag which is a backpack style bag.

They started that a while ago when I worked there. HVP now Care1 for rt 9 corridor and BVAC for 9d corridor.

Hudson Valley Paramedics/Regional EMS?? I guess they are operating as Care1 now, thats what the rigs say anyway

We have a house in district, and this is exactly the case. We've been there a few times for EMS calls, and oh my god. The last time we were their, I am happy that our Car 1 showed up, because this gave him a first hand look of the inside. Never mind the fact that a Type II ambulance barely fits up the long driveway because its not wide enough. Pre-plan these known occupancies, as stated in a prior post, Risk vs. Benefit.

Having worked there. They are a reputable company, and have their problems like any other agency does. They just went through some mgmt and ownership changes, hence the name change. They are not a totally horrible place to work for.

I think it's a cool idea, though as cool as it is, does not seem like a practical one. But understanding that its for secondary use, maybe it will work well for them. Would be interesting to follow up on after its in service for a few months?

BLS 4 is already used on private transports so its there based on availability. But I would imagine BLS 4 would be used to cover second calls in Brewsters district should the 2nd bus not crew.
