Thanks. I was wondering about that when I saw the pictures

I thought a squrt was an apparatus that had the elevated nozzle, but no ladder. If a squrt can have both, what is the difference then between it and a straight stick?

http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20101110/NEWS/11100345/-1/NEWS I really don't think that disbanding is a viable option, especially with all of the problems the City of Newburgh has. It don't know if the Town of Newburgh, even with the extra resources that would be coming from a combination of services would be able to handle both the City and the Town.

In both Orange County and Ducthess County the fire investigations team is volunteer. However, I believe the cities in Orange County, Newburgh definatley and possibly Middletown have their own fire marshal who handles investigations. Permits and inspections in most towns, outside of those two cities, at least in Orange, are handled by the building inspector or code enforcement officer

They are responsible for a part of Stewart Airport, and they do have the Hemlock Farms development out in PA. I have also City of Middletown PD say that an EDP was removed to Arden Hill by Regional, rather than Mobile Life. I don't know if this was at a nursing home up there or not.

It looks like a license plate reader camera.

You are correct. Under New York State and federal Navigational Law, there does not need to be any cause for a law enforcement officer to board a vessel for a safety inspection. Actually, "LEX" is doubly wrong, because even if he was talking about a traditional land traffic stop, an officer only needs Reasonable Suspicion which is a lower standard than probable cause.

What about trying something like Orange County has then, where all 911 calls are answered by the county, but local towns still have the option of maintaing their own dispatch to handle the radio communications and actual coordination of on scene efforts. If it is implemented correctly, and I do realize how big of an if that is, something like this could be the best of both worlds. You get a countywide dispatch and its benefits, and still maintain "local control" enough to quiet the politicians.

I guess I have a hard time understanding one thing. Haven't we always been told that Emergency Services is business in which minutes and sometimes seconds DO count? Now we are saying that they don't, and that the extra minute(s) shaved off by RLS isn't worth it? Couldn't those extra minutes be the difference between bleeding out and not, or permanent brain damage from lack of O2 or not, or a 10% per minute difference in survival rates with CPR/AED? I know the reply to this will be "But most calls aren't like that." but they could be. Say a call comes in for an unconcious, or for severe bleeding. Would you rather operate on the assumption that "they just fainted from not eating enough/saw a spider, etc." or "The bleeding probably isn't that bad/ it will be stopped when we get there etc..." and end up having a patient die or be in really bad shape, or go with the assumption that the call is life-threatening. Also, I think there needs to be a distincition made between RLS responses and reckless responses. The two terms are not equal. I have been a part of multiple RLS responses where we were going slower than the posted speed limit, never went on the wrong side of the road, etc. Just as a final note, these are my personal opinions as to the matter, and do not represent the official opinions of any service I am connected with in any way.
-
I agree that RLS responses should not be used for low priority alpha calls. (That is the point of an alpha response). But I do have some serious reservations about using these studies. It is not that the studies are intrinsically flawed, because they appear very professionally conducted. The potential problem is how do the districts examined in the study compare with our districts. For example: How does the traffic volume compare How do the number of red lights and intersections compare. Is the department a career or staffed volunteer department with rigs ready to go or on the road, or is it a full volunteer department? All of these can affect the amount of time difference between hot and cold responses.

I'm no lawyer, but in my reading it seems like they are in compliance. It says "Certified airports are required to include in their airport emergency plan, to the extent practicable, provisions for the rescue of ...victims from significant bodies of water or marsh lands...adjacend to the airports and lie beneath the approach and departure flight paths..." I would imagine that the plan would say something to the effect of "In the event of an accident with victims in the water, the NYPD, FDNY, and USCG, etc. will be immediatley notified and will respond with X number of vessels capable of handiling Y number of patients." The regulation only requires, to the extent practicable provisions for rescue. It does not require that the airport authority be the one that actually operates the rescue assets.

Does anyone know of any agency that is hiring for part-time dispatchers? Preferably in the Orange/Rockland area. I would prefer PD, but at this point I will take anything

Get well soon Officer Osso

Generally nursing homes and hospitals for inter-facility transfers. However, other venues requiring a full-time EMS presence also contract out to them. Stewart Airport and the Orange County Fairgrounds come to mind as big contracts

Apparently the BET doesn't understand the job of emergency management. Probably 90% of EM's work is planning for incidents BEFORE they happen, not dealing with them during. Besides, this line of thinking is very dangerous to any emergency service, especially in a small towns: ie. "We don't have a (fire/crime/medical emergency) everyday, so why do we ned (fire/police/ems).

Orange, Ulster and SUNY have sent out results and invitations to the Physical Fitness Tests. I don't know anything about the Yonkers or Mt. Vernon exam though.

A 16 or 17 year old member can not be interior qualified, so how can they be FAST? I thought all FAST team members were required to be interior firefighters.

The National Weather service has extended the Winter Weather Warning for Orange County from 6PM Friday to 6AM Saturday. Also, just to clarify a previous post, the 8 new inches was as of around noon. Its probably over a foot by now.
-
Is the officer stating he has PTSD from seeing the victim, or from the act of shooting the animal itself?
-

That the pickup trucks were carrying the dogs is a pretty good guess, since I see what looks like an air conditioning unit or vent on the top of the back shell.

Thanks. Are there any others in Orange this year? Is Port Jervis's every year?
